Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: Prima Facie – The Many Faces of Lightning You’ll Be Facing …

The evidence seems clearer that you’ll be facing the music as McQueen will be changing faces faster than you can say, “I Pity the Fool.”

Single McQueen …

Launcher McQueen

And 2-Pack McQueen with Party Wheels … and expression #3 …

Thanks for the pics and analysis Rob (my 6 kids) and “Drive by Night.”

I received a single lightning McQueen yesterday. And he does not have the lightning bolts on the wheel arches because he doesn’t have them in the movie. As for the quality after looking at it I would say compared to or previous die casts it’s on the same level. The decals are crisp clear quality and as for the plastic parts they arnt as bad I first thought anyway 🙂

cars 2 cars have a may 16 street date, your lucky if you find a store that don’t care but the store could pay a fine if caught

    • Daniel says:

I don’t think Mattel really cares. Why would they release the items so early and expect retailers to sit on them for more than a month after having paid for them?

I’m sure they’ll say “You weren’t supposed to do that” if someone complains, and maybe not ship to them, especially if they are a small dollar store chain, but it was their intent from Day 1 to have these sold before hand and create more hype.

If they really cared and really wanted to ensure this would happen, they would have only shipped them 1-2 weeks before, not 1-2 months before.

  • Daniel says:

    ….and so it begins.

How many variants of MQ will we have this time around?

How about a contest? Place your guess and we’ll check back in 3 or 4 years. Closest number wins a MQ.

      Smiling Lightning

      Revved Up Lightning
      Astonished Lightning
      Closed Eyes Lightning
      Winking Lightning
      Sleeping Lightning
      Laughing Lightning
      Lightning Looking to the Left
      Lightning Looking to the Right
      Lightning Looking Up
      Lightning Looking Down
      Angry Lightning CHASE
      And then came the Lenticulars……

I know a few stores are putting these out early, thereby not following “the rules”, but how on Earth are all of you already pocessing these? A few here and there I can see, but I am feeling like I am in the very, very minority here in that I have not seen a SINGLE CARS 2 diecast ANYWHERE. And believe me, I have looked.

    • bobbyjack says:

I personally have not seen them any store except for Family Dollar. I have heard reports on this site of people finding them at Target, CVS, Safeway and one sighting at a Dollar General. I have not checked Safeway or CVS but have been to many Targets over the last 2 weeks and checked both the Toy Department and the Easter displays and have struck out each time. I know they are in other places though because I have traded quite a few Family Dollar cars for ones I have not seen in the wild yet. Have patience because 2 weeks from tonight, they will be everywhere!

      • Man-I-Fold says:

Also Case A at the kids section of Lord & Taylor dept. store in more than one state, Illinois being one. This option is only for openers, as their price sticker ruins the back of the card. Family Dollar stickers seem to come right off with a little patience and thumb work. Good luck all!

    • Daniel says:

      Are you Canadian? LOL.

  • bobbyjack says:

I think single McQueen will be enough for us. I’m sure we will be stuck with many more having to purchase box sets though. Haven’t seen too many box sets without him!

  • Michigander says:

Stopped into a Family Dollar in another city yesterday and they had what appeared to be 2x cases worth of Pixar “CARS 2” movie diecast on the shelf at $5.00 each.

    8-10x “Race Mater”
    8-10x “Race McQ”
    6-8x “Finn”
    1-2x “Francesco”
    1-2x “Prof. Z”
    1-2x “Raoul”
    6-8x “Jeff Gorvette”
    1-2x “Acer”

ps: interesting note, I stopped into another Family Dollar nearest our town and they had NONE? I asked the clerk and she had no idea what I was talking about??

    • John in Missouri says:

I’ve been to 8 since this started, but only 4 had them in stock.

    • cac1959 says:

I’ve seen case B at 7 of 20 Family Dollar stores I have gone too – done way too much driving… I was told at one store that they had them in the back but they weren’t putting them out until May 16… I was told at others they were on a special Easter pallet – I don’t expect to find them at any other Family Dollar stores because in 2 weeks they will be everywhere.

      • bobbyjack says:

Friday the 22nd was the last day I had looked for them because by that point, I had been able to trade for the ones I was missing from Case A. Case C will be the first appearance of Rod Torque Redline, right?

  • Jack says:

I like the Cha Cha changes song reference. I am not going to concern myself with slight variations on this line though. It will have to be a more appreciable difference than a little difference in the eyes or mouth.
Now Mater with bomb and variants like that I am all in. I can’t wait for the Wal Mart exclusive 2 pack line coming out soon.

  • PANCHO says:

    ME TOO!!!!

  • cac1959 says:

    15 or 16 days… I can wait… I think…

I’m not surprised by the variants… they’ve got to do what they can to make us collect them all… sigh…

    • John in Missouri says:

I wonder how many Wal-Marts, Targets, and Kmarts will put out items by the weekend before (May 14-15), the actual launch day (May 16), that week (May 17-20), the next weekend (May 21-22), or even later?

      • Jack says:

Yes I was thinking that too. I am sure there will be different setup times at different stores but at least the sticker on the box that says don’t put on shelf will be on your side by then.
Instead of them saying your early you can tell them your late. :)-

        • Man-I-Fold says:

Yeah! That is going to be one very useful technique. Well, hopefully, we won’t have to use any techniques aside from casually picking items from the overflowing shelves. 🙂

  • I-LUV-RACE-CARS says:

Did anyone else notice that the last McQueen is missing his sticker headlights?

  • Wraukn says:

Family Dollar stores around me are stuffed to the rafters with Cars 2. Mostly case B. The independent die-cast sellers have everything else. I just can’t wait to get the exclusives!

  • old hippie says:

    I’ll get ’em all.
    And they’re all “lenticular ready”.

  • Robert from the Netherlands says:

I have bought two loose Acers from HK. They have also a different face. I think one Acer is from the Single Package and the other from a future Double Pack.

    • Man-I-Fold says:

Ch-ch-ch changes…. I can live without (I hope). On the topic of Acer, I’ve seen about 9 or so long-card singles-version of Acer and not one of them had 100% quality in the eye area. All of them have some sort of crackling, or faint tearing, in decal, paint or finish of the eye white or eye lid. Are there Acers with clean eyes? I also noticed this in lots of the Race Team Maters. Not complaining, just noticing QC issues on expensive diecasts.

      • quercy says:

I am bit nervous about the quality. I have examined some opened cars at my friend’s place today. Definitively the die cast are thinner, there is more plastic parts, the details under the cars are pretty much inexistent, the light coating and color match of paint and stickers job are not great and sharp like before… The wheels on Bernoulli are using weak wire so when you bend a wheel there is no way back. I know many are not collecting Disney 1:43 (or 1:32 doesn’t matter) because they are not robust like Mattel ones. So,…The design and colors maybe attractive on the first look and from far, but when you have them in your hands you feel cheated. More than ever the Mattel dollar machine is set to suck more than a thousand Dyson!

My conclusion: Many actual collectors may lose interest because cost/quality and potential new collectors may hesitate then step back… The pegs will response by themselves early January 2012…

I still need to get the new cars and launchers
