Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: It’s the Ghostlight! In Australia

The next CHASE CAR has arrived in Australia … It’s THE GHOSTLIGHT!

While it doesn’t light up, it does glow in the dark so now you can be scared of a blue glow in the dark. 🙂

Plus Duff Wrecks is in the case … 3 to be precise …

Thanks for the great photos, “Jeaks.”

Though it does seem like Duff Wrecks could use a logo of some kind …

Humm … or perhaps …

Nah … must be something …

So do you consider Ghostlight Mater an expanded universe CAR?

  • The Collector says:

nice pics i found the chase after christmas im not sure if anyone else found it before me

  • Nicole H says:

I found this case yesterday here in Iowa at WM. Entire case on pegs EXCEPT the chase. I am now convinced it’s a stocker taking all the chase cars from this WM. I did grab 2 of the Duffs.

  • Chris with tray says:

Well said, E. But that still doesn’t change the fact that this case assortment blows! (:

  • Eric says:

Personally I could care less who gets them first. I say kudos to our Australian friends! Certainly with all that they spend buying cars from Americans to complete their collections, they deserve a bone every now and again.

Is it just me, or are you all getting a little jaded? 🙂 I mean, c’mon … how many freakin’ new cars do you need in a span of two months to make you happy? I go out and ACTUALLY FIND NEW STUFF in the stores routinely now. Can you honestly say there has ever been a more productive couple of months for us collectors? My sons “treat box” is overflowing with new cars for him to open. We couldn’t be happier, and don’t mind waiting a little while for yet another Mater with accessory (although this is the coolest accessory yet). Relax folks, you will get your fixed eyed Duff and your Glow in the Dark lamp. Did anyone ever think a boring old pick up would cause an uproar? Of course we are at the end of the line for decent cars. They have released a couple hundred already! Yes, we should have an Albert. But how many more fillers (i.e. camera guys and reporters) do we really need? All in good time people. all in good time… Happy holidays and bring on the second movie!

    • Man-I-Fold says:

word up, E! If I’m able to find any more cars for the toys-in-reserve box, I just may run out of birthdays and xmases to use em for. Hope my good luck with all the new Toons and newest Final Lappers runs out soon! 😉

  • jambouk says:

Why cant we ALL get the new ones at the same time?????

  • jambouk says:

Seems like the cars line is slowly losing its pull in the UK. Too many re-releses in the boxes, My TRU’s has had no new mainline cars for months now and only the toons singles now and then, Disney store seems to be the best place for all cars just now,
I hope its not a sign of things to come for CARS2…..because i am so looking forward to cases with almost ALL new cars.

Cmon Mattel dont ruin it now!

  • NascarFan says:

According to Dennis in Ohio, these are now in the USA

  • pwschuh says:

Yes, Ghostlight Mater is expanded universe and not canon to first film, since he was not on screen when the movie was released to theaters. That’s one more chase I don’t need to find.

  • BMW says:

Mattel is killing this line with all the repeats. Its too bad really.
Its all about the Cars toons and storytellers Christmas line. No more imagination for movie Cars. Even something as simple as the same crew chiefs with new logos on them and new paint.

My bet is that all the concentration is on Cars 2 now and they will never finish the first movie Cars from the Blu Ray finder. spark plug monster from the dream sequence, Albert Hinkey, Larry, RM. Instead we get more Mater and Mcqueen variants, where is the fresh product?

No more final laps have shown up. No new cardback for the new Mattel year which started in October but we have not seen new final laps since August. And what ever happened to the promise Mattel made that the new cars would be released in classic eyes first?
    where is the fresh product?

    • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

This hit the nail on the head for me.

    • carscrazydd says:

Go get ’em BMW, right with you!

I can’t even comment with an arguement that it’s for the kids anymore, or that Disney/Pixar/Mattel cares only about the kids – unless of course the kids are only playing with/wearing out the repeated cars.

It will be interesting to see if once Cars II is released if they keep producing releases from Cars I. There is high demand for fresh product and more releases of limited production vehicles.

  • Man-I-Fold says:

Love the cusomized pics, Met! Hilarious stuff! Duff drinks too much Duff Beer, Duff Wrecks wrecks…. Customizers are going to have a hey day if they do release Duff as a Final Lapper.

  • Fastlane251 says:

They never release those kind of cars in my stores

  • Rippers says:

    I just noticed!

The hook cable is shorter! obviously so the lamp will hook on without touching the floor.

who’s going to take the first pic of the lamp glowing in the dark

  • madbob says:

Pleased the majority is duff & I like the ghostlight… nice to see sheriff and wingo back with case space after soooooooo long. We need a new Wingo & Sheriff as our little one has totally trashed his ones.

LM with cones? does he have more than one cone then in this version?

Charlie Checker, does it now say piston cup pace car on the card?

Shame there is 8 lightning mcqueens variations in the case, ever thought of releasing lizzie matel? do you remember her or have you lost the master casts!!!!!

  • TarheelBill says:

Why didn’t they just name it Ghostlight Mater??? That would have been much better than “Mater with Glow in the Dark Lamp”.

  • Rippers says:

Other then the chase and duff what a terrible case assortment, why or why do they have to keep putting in more sarges, more nitroades and LMQ variants galore. It’s all so mind numbingly dull now.. how hard can it honestly be to do a nitroade repaint and have other racers with the stupid eyes or rerelease Lizzie or maybe some of the many final lap cars that have been made lenticular ready. If we must have these stupid eyes then at least give us some variety.

  • Strip Weathers says:

Don’t understand why lenticular…First they should do them all normal…and then lenticular if they want to…

  • Diecast58 says:

Would be nice if these came with fixed eyes. Not a big fan of the Lenticulars.

    • 5oclockshadow says:

at least you can always hook the ‘ghostlight’ on a regular Mater. wish they would have changed his expression though…like he was running away from it.

I’m betting the Disney Store version will actually light up…show offs lol

  • babychristianscars says:

Awesome. Can’t wait to find ghostlight Mater. I too don’t remember duff in the movie.

  • Mator says:

Again, why does a foreign country recieve American products before America does? Something wrong about that!!

    • Alex says:

American product? Wake up, they are all made in China!

      • Bombero1956 says:

I think what he means is that Cars is an American made film and Mattel is an American toy company. Sure the toys are made in China but the primary market for these toys is here. I think it’s a legit question, why offer these cars in Australia when the biggest market and the biggest demand is over here. You can’t say that you’re not chomping at the bit to get the Final Lap cars and the Chase items, we all are.

        • PVHaulerNo.16 says:

Probably that, and because it’s in US packaging. Too bad Cars aren’t still made in the Thai factory that made Sarges the right way, not some cheap Chinese-made lead paint covered ones. Oh well, at least Sarge is back.

    • Jeaks says:

I guess we ask the same question why does a foreign country like America get them before Australia? especially when they are made in china and we probably sent China the raw minerals needed to make them.

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

    Wow! This is awesome news!

  • deal or no cars says:

Once again Australia receive USA card .. theses aren’t international back card!

  • buckland-blowouts says:

There is only one universe called CARS…

    The minis though… alternate universe?

  • John in Missouri says:

Met, couldn’t Duff also use an RPM logo? 😉

I think I’m more excited about him than Chase Mater. I wonder why they used a stock image of plain ol’ Mater instead of one with the ghostlight?

  • Ace Diamondrunner says:

Was the ghostlight short part of the original script? Seems like it could have been. Mater even mentions the ghostlight in the movie.

  • NascarFan says:

Cool cars. wish we had some of these over here

  • TFCars95 says:

I have not seen any classic eyes Duff Wrecks, does this mean it will not make the Final lap cut? also a seller on ebay had maryln the other day and now has mater with hood and timothy timezone
