Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Mater Saves Christmas Box Set – Shelf Life TRU

“Alejandro L.” is first to send us a great shot of the box just sitting on the shelf.

Yep, it’s out on the shelf with a shelf sticker … not just snuck out of the back room.

Santa CAR looks very metal and sharper and more detailed than the shabby eBay photos I’ve seen so far …

And even the price is nice, I was expecting it to be $29 for this box set of three so nice all around …

I believe the UPC actually reads Zero-Two-Seven-Zero-Eight-4970814 … Bismark.

Only at TRU – maybe it’ll be online soon also?

Happy hunting and thanks for the great photo, “Alejandro L.”

Santa CAR is from this book, of course … the EXPANDED UNIVERSE CARS book,  Mater Saves Christmas – available from Amazon.

And who had WHEE HOO WINTER MATER as his name in the pool?

    *****Mater Saves Christmas/McQueen Alert*****

Here’s an auction listing for what we will HOPEFULLY see as the new version of Mater Saves Christmas McQueen, maybe as the single version?

    Check THIS out!:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Disney-Pixar-Cars-Christmas-McQUEEN-Snow-Shovel-/250712861591?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5fa6ab97

  • Mariela says:

Love the Santa Car…but there’s none here in my area yet!

  • BMW says:

Called TRU with the item #. 2 Arlington and Dallas TRU’s have this set.
    No Houston Stores yet.

  • babychristianscars says:

Love this set and will hope it is sold online. Is the santa car the only new one or are the other 2 new as well?

(MET: Whoops, forgot that part of the post – the Mater with Snow Hat is new and unlikely to be a single – the LM looks to be the same as the one from last year).

    • por356 says:

Mater is different from last years version, this year he has the hat that he wears in the first part of the book. No antlers.

Different subject. I read on another board (which shall remain nameless 🙂 ) that Big Lots had Megasize/Deluxe Cars. I went to my local BL. They had Richard Clayton Kensington, Marco, Barney Stormin’, Mack, Chick Hicks Semi, Hummer Sven and a slew of older, regular size singles. The big ones were $6.00 each and the regulars were either $3.00 or $3.90 depending on whether you believed the sign or the price tag. Of course, the sign also said they were 1/64 scale, so I would believe the price tag. 🙂

  • Eric says:

So, the Mater is different than last year’s version, yes? I can’t quite tell, but this one does not have antlers … is that right? Also, I see Christmas Guido and Luigi are on eBay. Maybe we will get Flo, Sarge, Fillmore, etc? Exciting!

    • kdthomas says:

Yes, he just has a green hat on with this version. Looking at the picture from the book it would have made more sense (I know…this is Mattel) to put Filmore and Red in there to give us additional characters. Maybe we’ll see them in the Target set. Like the others, I’ll wait on Target. These sets usually sit on the shelfs way past Christmas at TRU. How many still see the Waitress pack?

    • ravenlolo says:

You’re right Mater has a green hat with ear flaps, its raised and had snow tires. The Santa car has no “tires” it has four small rollers like the yeti.

  • jambouk says:

Cant help but think it would have been nicer with reindeer….pittys or not.

  • John in Missouri says:

We stumbled upon a Toys R Us Express yesterday at the Lake of the Ozarks Outlet Mall. It had just opened on Friday, but there were Christmas packs or even Cars singles. I hope this location is permanent, but I also hope they expand a little!

    • Nitroapolis says:

Did you mean you found singles? I went a few weeks ago and found nothing but the 5-packs and rocket mater pack and some mega size old toons.

      • Eric says:

I think John meant that they didn’t have singles. We found exactly what you did at 3 different locations here. Although, I think ours had some older haulers instead of Megas. What’s even worse is that they all have price stickers on them. I guess it doesn’t matter since they didn’t have anything we needed anyway. 🙂 Speaking of price stickers… Someone in touch with our “friends” at K-Mart want to inform them that collectors don’t like price stickers? The cars are either hanging on clearly marked pegs or sitting on clearly marked shelves. We don’t need no stinkin’ stickers on our packaging!

        • NascarFan says:

I wish they would put them on the bubbles, then we could clean them off

        • I-am-speed says:

Eric, keep in mind that some states REQUIRE each item to be individually priced, our state is one of them.

They also enforce a pricing error law, where you are reimbursed a penalty “fee” if the register price rings up higher than the sticker price on the item.

It’s a pain for us collectors, but it is the law for retailers in our state.

Walmart tried to bypass the law, not marking everything, and ended up in a lawsuit with the state.

          • John in Missouri says:

Kohl’s does that on the front of the cards with some pretty big stickers. Even if you work them, they peel part of the cardback off with them.

            • Dekoy says:

If you want to remove stickers without damage, go to an art supply store and get some contact rubber cement thinner.

Dab on a tissue and dab the tissue on the sticker, should be a piece of cake to come off, but be timely as the thinner evaporates rather quickly.

If there is glue residue left then another tissue and apply to the area where the glue is and it should come off on the tissue.

              • I-am-speed says:

Hair dryer, on low heat, takes the primary sticker off with no problem. Any residue can be easily removed with Goo B Gone or any other adhesive/label remover.

      • John in Missouri says:

Oops, sorry about that!! I meant to say that there were NO Christmas packs, and not even any single packs of Cars. Just Haulers, Gift Packs, and Mack Bachelor Pads. I’d also say that 1/4 to 1/3 of the Cars “section” was made up of those big Adventure Huts — what a waste of space!

    • collectormom says:

Did you notice that the TRU Express stores charge more than their individual stores? I’m sure it has something to do with paying mall rent but sheesh. And their selection is usually terrible

      • John in Missouri says:

This was the first TRUE I have ever been in and was actually shocked at how good their prices were, at least compared to the normal TRU I was at on Friday. $19.99 5-car gift packs, $14.99 Haulers, and $17.99 Mack Bachelor Pads.

  • Shelby says:

I found this at TRU in Manchester, NH yesterday.

    • jestrjef says:

Nice find, Shelby!! How the heck are ya?!?! Good to see you are still hanging around! Hope things are well with you and yours. 🙂

      • Shelby says:

        Hey Jazzy!
Yup – I’m still here just not commenting as often. I still read the posts everyday. I’m trying to be more patient and find things on my own.

Got married this summer and went to Disney again – AWESOME! Looking forward to Kmart Day this Saturday and finally getting my hands on tachomint!!!!

Hope your family is doing well! Still teaching?

  • ravenlolo says:

I found this at Toys R Us in Rockford Illinois. There were plenty more behind it.

  • Carlos says:

I’ll wait to see what Target has. I’ a bit surprised the price is’t higher considering how overpriced TRU is.

  • Rich says:

Yea, this set seems boring. I’ll wait for Targets.

  • BBIG MIKE says:

YES TARGET DOES ALSO HAVE A SET, WE WILL BE SEEING IT SOON , MIGHT NOT BE IN THE TOY SECTION , I AM NOT SURE YET ,ON RESET LOCATION

  • deal or no cars says:

Maybe Target will have another pack.. Exclusive , 8 Characters!

  • John in Missouri says:

So how does Target fit into the picture now? Any new on the Luigi & Guido single pack?

  • jambouk says:

    Will the UK see this?

    • madbob says:

The only exclusive set in TRU for the uk so far is 3 x monster trucks (Mcmean, tormentor and dr feel bad). So in the UK TRU do get exclusive sets… I dont think it’s a definate NO, but I do think you will have more luck in the disney store for the xmas holiday cars. Hopefully more than one chain of shops will get the Santa Car.

      • Dolly says:

I found the same 3er set at our local TRU here in Austria. Monster Truck with Dr. Feel Bad for the nice price of € 34,99 (around $49.- USD) I just started at it and wanted to cry. We really have terrible prices. Thanks God i have so many good friends here at T5 that get them for my kiddys for the price they paid or i get lucky enough and can order it myself at TRU.com

Madbob, how much are they in UK? Just to compare.

        Thanks,
        Dolly

  • NascarFan says:

looks like a nice set, Hope we see them around here, I have had a few people tell me that they were 29.99

  • jestrjef says:

Very cool set!! One thing TRU is good at … EXCLUSIVES … they normally get them in quantity, so after the initial rush of ebayers, I think this one will be widespread soon! 🙂

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

I’ll love it if Santa brings me one! Merry Christmas to all, even if I am early!

    • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

And yes the price is nice, but so far it seems some people are charging double that.

      • Jack says:

Yes Matt you are correct. There will always be at least one in any crowd who tries to take advantage of collectors by trying to overcharge because they were fortunate enough to find something early.
Thankfully that’s the exception here on take 5 and not the norm.
There will be plenty of sets to go around soon. So just be patient and myself or someone else will get you the set for a much more reasonable price.
You don’t have to deal with non helpful type. I don’t.

        • MaterJr says:

I feel that if you do not have anything nice to say then do not say it at all

          • Eric says:

No, I think Jack was very tactful. He didn’t even call anyone out. It’s simple… Stick to eBay if you fit the aforementioned description. This is a site of collectors helping collectors – not a site of eBay sellers saving eBay selling fees. Sure, several folks on here sell on eBay, but they also help fellow collectors for substantially less than they sell on eBay. No biggie, just don’t be shocked if a post is created when a collector tries to sell another collector a $20 set for $40.

            • MaterJr says:

THE WAY I LOOK AT IT IS IF ITS TO HIGH FOR YOU THEN ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY NO THANK YOU AND MOVE ON.

            • kdthomas says:

Would this be like someone that bought something for $6 after coupon and sell it on here for $20? I don’t care what you sell for…it’s your items. I just find it funny that some people complain about jacking up prices but they do the same thing. I think there’s a word for that. Thankfully, I seem to run into the helpful crowd.
