Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: It’s Weird in the Stores

“ScoobyDoo” has found the latest Car Toons in the Netherlands …

That’s a LOT of names for the McQueen’s and not so many for Yokoza.Β  πŸ™‚

Weird, “ScoobyDoo” claims that is the FIRST ever shipment of CAR Toons CARS … guess the first releases contained too many Mater’s?

And variant collectors, make friends with European collectors – look, Clutch Aid wheel rim color variant – thanks “David V,” for the info and pic.

KD T. found this interesting escapee from the factory … I think this is that sudden acceleration thing we keep hearing about … or maybe it’s for adult collectors – Mater at the skin graft clinic?

I found this at WM …

Is this one of the Mattel Mystery Blind Box dealies? The clear transparent plastic is not as fun as the black plastic ones. Or is those color changer things I keep hearing about?

What’s hilarious is the store taped it back on …

I’m not sure what’s worse (besides the thief), Walmart employees who do not notice there is a CAR missing or walmart who thinks we/us/its customers won’t notice and buy it anyway?

πŸ™

And CARS fans are not the only buy ’em-swap ’em and return ’em …

Now if that were the STRIPES RV Tank, I’d pay $10.99 for it but a matchbox? Not so much.

And back at WM, I saw the plan-o-gram for now is kind of plain-o-gram for CARS …

Of course, keep in mind, this particular WM might be a smaller toy one and there might be an endcap or “sidekick” area for CARS but no haulers, no Mini’s, & no 3-packs …

Of specific note, the Collector’s Guide is not listed on there … humm …

And at Target, there’s the new carve your own CARS … πŸ™‚

Fun for the whole family – need Lizzie or Sally with Cone – NOT anymore with CARS block of wood & the CARS wood whittlin’ kitβ„’

It’s weird out there so be careful out there shopping … don’t forget this from Skymall … the NeckPro Traction Device …

    hi guys:
are there differents between Dragon MQ w/ oil and a Dragon MQ w/ guide book?
I realized both of them got oil stains on the side on both cars.
    please advise.

MET – I think I know what the deal on the missing McQueen from the launcher is about. See, since Mattel makes any collector buy at least 20 regular McQueens they figure you won’t mind one missing since you have so many already and they can save a buck…that’s my theory πŸ™‚

Would anyone be interested in custom made cones? to scale?

  • applefinatic says:

    too slow too too slow

  • Rich says:

    Hey Mike,
What does roadapple mean, never heard of that.

Went to Target today. Nothing again.

I might as well by all my stuff online and stop burning gas money and
save the environment in the process.

  • Bombero1956 says:

It’s been a pretty long dry spell since the Holidays. Nothing new at the TRU, Target or Walmarts in my area of western Massachusetts. I finally told a kid in Target that they really need to reduce the price of the 20-30 Gils that they have on the shelves so the new stuff can get stocked.

    • I-am-speed says:

I’m sure the next thing that kid did was get on the phone to corporate headquarters to get the o.k. on the hauler markdowns. πŸ˜‰

Most Target employees are too busy working on “the look” that they give us when we try to get any information on Cars-related items.

They can’t wait to overflow the pegs with Hot Wheels or Matchbox, but when it’s Cars-related, we might as well be speaking Chinese if we ask them to bring anything out when the scanner says “Backroom/yes”.

      • Mike H says:

Toys? Targets planning to take down Sam’s Club. They’re working on a bulk-item plan to get people to buy big packs of toilet paper and other things.

I’ve only ever encountered a couple Target employees who were more than happy to help me find any product in the backroom. Others just scan and go, ‘Nope, nothing.’

  • Cars-in-your-eyes says:

The Toons are now available at most ‘Cars’ retailers in the UK and they all started with the case before the case the Netherlands have now. (and they are priced much higher than the singles!)

It seems the Toons are becoming mainline now. Nearly a third of the Collectors book is taken up with Toons singles and Megasize. Funny there is no McQ from El Materdor in the book?! Has anyone compared the US and International Collector books to see if the same cars appear in them?

All I can say is thank goodness for the Disneystore which seem to be be the only relatively reliable store to stock the Cars, and of course Thank You to all the great Take 5ers who help to keep my collection on track.

  • buckland-blowouts says:

What color is he supposed to have?

  • collectormom says:

What happened to the post Christmas, post inventory reset? There isn’t anything new here. WM, Target, TRU all have bupkis

  • Rich says:

All I know is that I am getting tired of waiting for the damn Collectors Guide with the Dragon Mc Queen to hit the Chicago area.
    I MEAN COME ON ALREADY!
I’m about to buy the damn thing ONLINE somewhere.
My TRU received a shipment yesterday and the only thing new they received
was the boxed set with the Piston Cup Security cars.
No new TOONS, Nothing. I don’t understand it.

    • Mike H says:

Rich, you are one of the few Chi-town collectors I’ve seen on here.

your comment reminds me of the last Collector’s guide. Every other person outside the midwestern region was getting it with Night-Vision McQueen.

I ordered mine from another collector…and then 4 months later they finally just dropped from the sky all over Walmart.

Chicago truly is the roadapple of CARS collecting. In fall of 2008, people were reporting Vitoline, Shifty Drug and Tank Coat launchers. I didn’t see these show up anywhere near me until May of 2009. When I saw these on the Target store shelf, I just grabbed them like a tiger, afraid something else was going to deny me of finishing my SOTS set.

  • That is what Mater looks like after watching a horror movie.

  • John in Missouri says:

We watched “A Bug’s Life” the other night on DVD. There’s a scene near the end where one of the grasshoppers gets so scared of the attacking ants that his layer of dried skin pops off. The photo above of Mater’s base in the 4-pack reminds me of that. Maybe Mater got so scared during production that this happened.

  • Mr. T says:

That guy looks kinda how I feel……..no new cars???? Goodbye cruel world! πŸ˜‰

Seriously…….Do people really own those things??
