“We went in to pick up a gift for a child’s birthday party on Sunday and went over to the Toys section to have a look for any new Cars. I was actually looking for a Nitroade hauler but my expectations were pretty low as our Target hasn’t been re-stocked in weeks. Imagine my surprise when I saw 6 Final Lap Cars hanging on the pegs in front of the usual batch of Dirt Track Lightnings, Movie Doubles, etc. I picked up the following: Radiator Springs Lightning McQueen, Brand New Mater, The King, Blowing Bubbles Mater, Polly Puddlejumper, and Skip Ricter. They weren’t on any dedicated Final Lap pegs, just strewn around almost as an afterthought.”
The two lessons here are a) Never miss an opportunity to go into a CARS retailer and b) When you are in a gift giving mood, good things will happen.
Steven also points out that they are NOT in the SYSTEM or rather they rang up at $12.99 which the clerk was smart enough to reduce down – so if you are standing in line with them in the next couple days until they get the DPCI in the system, be prepared to haggle. 🙂
So, we’re still unclear how many are actually out – unsure of if Fabulous Hudson Hornet was a mistake or part of “CASE A,” the last bit of information was that the case still contained 18 CARS (which may or may not be accurate) so 3 of each of the 6 CARS above to make a case of 18?? Or are there a few others floating around out there like Fabulous Hudson Hornet?

yeah if you consider 5x retail a bargain price!?!?!? I’ll wait until I find it on the shelf just like the others. Remember looking for OG or even Trunk Fresh Hauler a while back. These just sit on the shelves.

We found Mater the Greater Playset today, and of course ripped it open while the girls were shopping, jumping Mater through the halls of the mall…..BUT more importantly, when we got home, we made him JUMP a SHARK!!!! I was LMBO and Ethan was like, It’s just a shark Dad!!

An employee walked out with a slightly different Mattel Disney Pixar Cars box. They waited anxiously as the employee filled the peg with beautiful blue card back new cars.
They held their breathe as they saw the new cars and rushed to the pegs once the employee was finished. They pull out their camera and take a picture for Met and posterity sake.
With joy on their face, they quickly unpeg the new catch and lovingly put it in their cart.
Usually the best part of hunting Cars is NOT looking for anything and stumbling upon some new Cars. Or when your little child picks up a new package and asks if they can get it, and it ends up being the Cars that you were looking for.

Exactly what happened to my grandson yesterday, in Your first sentence! He only looks for me, cause he has “outgrown” Cars, and collects Star Wars and other lines. So it was a happy find.

actually it may not be a case of the dpci being entered into the system, but it may be that the new upc #s havent been entered under the “single Cars” dpci in the target system yet (since all of the upcs fall under the one dcpi, they all have to be entered to “ping” that number when scanned, and sometimes new upc codes get overlooked by the coporate goonies)-i ran into the same problem a few months back with the DC universe figures

I’m sitting here in my jammies eating my eggs and toast watching Cars with my friend’s little boy, and I told him that people are finding new Cars at TGT,…. and right out of his mouth was, “It’s ok if my eggs get cold, can we go to Target?” I have him trained!!! We are finishing our breakfast, putting Cars on hold and going to Target…..

What a disappointment that was! The people at the store had no reason why, just the that the manufacturer apparently didn’t know that “Squirrel” was important in the selection of sayings for Dug.
We WERE going to but 2, as they’re Buy 1 Get 1 Free………but we walked out with only Sidewall Shines and the other new racers, ZERO Dugs.

If anyone buys the older characters and opens them I would love to have/buy the cards. I don’t want to buy them all again but love the big pictures and would love to put them in baby christians cars album.
“Final Lap” sounds so “final”. I’m very sad now. 🙁
(MET: Well, strangely or ironically, the “Final Lap” for CARS1 is um, not so final … they still have a 6 month gap so it’s ain’t over until they run out of race related checkered flag like terms … 🙂 ).
I think we’re all catching on that part of the master plan is to drag things out so that there’s as small a gap as possible between CARS items and the early items promoting CARS 2! They don’t want to risk an “out of side, out of mind” situation, do they?
I like the checkered flag idea Met, maybe they’ll also have The Winner’s Circle, Post Race Wrapup, and The Piston Cup Awards Banquet edition cards.
(MET: Well, I think one of the other diecast companies releases a WINNER’s CIRCLE line but everything else is available).

C’mon Shanon, you know that Mattel doesn’t HATE Canada. They use Canada as the distribution point for North America. That’s pretty cool. And the reason you got all the “Blimps and Dinoco MQ’s and Gold Mia and Tias” was because the retailers returned them to the distribution point so they could be sent out again to different retailers. They just happened to send them right out the door to your local retailers. Matty doesn’t hate you, he’s just abusing you all. There now, doesn’t that make you feel better?

Well now wait….I was actually excited about THREE new cars, providing there is MORE than one of each per case!! If it is only one per case, then yeah, USELESS, BUT if it is 3 NEW cars and 3 per case then we are talking !!!!
It may seem good, but with 41 new cars scheduled for release, and at 3 new cars per case, it will take the over 13 cases to get them all out. It will most likely be spread over less than a dozen cases, so at least the first one should have had a few more new cars.
