Since yesterday I started in this world of collecting Cars, literally. I know I have a very  long track to run, but I am in love, even if my husband is in shock with my expensive hobbie.

I have questions about storage and package. I am hopeful someone can help me.
1: Should I keep my cars in the original package?  I saw many pictures of very large collections but all out of the original package.
2: If I decide to keep the original package… any idea about display?… or storage?

Thank you for your time!

I would definitely keep them in the package and display them on shelves, but some collectors open them and display in cases by Carney, one of the sponsors of this site. It really depends on your budget. Welcome and good luck!

Welcome to the club!  I got into "collecting" or obsessing over Cars late, too.  When Cars came out I bought them as I found them and gave them to my son.  I then realized how collectible these little cars are.  I was able to get a couple Cars and Toons and not open them, but my collection is not large.  I have more opened and used cars than carded ones.  When Cars 2 came out I started a double collection.  One to keep and one to give to my boys.  The carded ones are hung on the wall in one of my son's room.  Both of them really like to look at them as well as play with their own.

Enjoy your new hobby!!!

We have two little boys who love playing with them so every Car gets opened. Our Cars live in Sterilite drawers that are transparent enough to see this little row of eyes looking out. Do whatever is fun for you.

I ahve a mixed bag…a lot of the early stuff was opened..but ever since the race-o-rama card, we've kept them carded…but have tons of loose cars even though we have them carded also…

we are technically not collecting 2 sets, but we do have a lot of dupes for the ones we really like…

I open the lego sets for sure 🙂

It is definitely what ever you like and what ever suits your situation. If you don't have kids or they aren't going to play with them, you might want to keep them in the packages. If you ever decide to sell them you will get more money. However, I find it enjoyable to hold the loose car in my hand. We do have multiples of a lot of the Cars, one for my boys to open and play with and chip the paint and chew on/throw, etc. and one to keep sealed in its "clear plastic coffin".

Welcome and enjoy, it is an obsession for a lot of us and a bane to a lot of our wives/husbands.

I hoarded Desert Back (2006) and Supercharged (2007) like there was no tomorrow and you can definitely tell in my Collection photos. But when the World of Cars (2008) came out, I slowed down after realizing that this wasn't just going to be a one or two year thing. I mostly just bought one to open, but for the ones I liked I bought two or three of. I am an opener and I think it's a lot easier to display your Cars when they are open. Here is how I have displayed mine:

I bought this shelf at an auction for around $125 to $150. It is a rotating shelf with 4 different sides and it currently holds a little more than 300 Cars.

But you do whatever suits you. If you collect carded you will get more of a profit when you sell your collection in a few years but it's your decision. Have fun collecting! Smile

That is a sweet display case, Fillmore! Looks like it doesn't take up too much floor space either. I will open ours to display eventually, but not until the kids are older and have no interest in playing with them…

Thanks to everyone for the answers! My story is pretty much the same as
Cowboys88! I have a 3 years old boy that loves to play with his cars. Then I
realized that I love to play with them too and I started the collection. My problem is that he does not understand that they should stay carded.

The idea of Tom is interesting! To open them when my son gets older! And
yes, my husband is not that happy at all Laugh

Thanks John! I guess I am stressing out to much for the storage… This is
supposed to be fun!

Dunroamin: I do have a lot of dupes too! Laugh

Fillmore1234: Speechless with your collection! I saw more of your
pictures in other post and I was really impressed!

Thank you all!!

Question: So if I take them out and let my son play with them, should I keep the card from the package?

I do, but I don't know why haha. I don't keep the blister, though, I just keep the card and the name tag.
