I've been reluctant to buy any of the new Disney store cars because the few we have that we opened and let the kids play with seem to always break. Have they changed/improved the quality any?

Thx

No..the quality has not changed, and they still do break pretty easily.  But with that said I have still been collecting the Chase ones and certain ones that look good only for the fact that the detail and paint always looks so good on them and it gives a good reason to not open them and leave them in there little glass case.

See, I've found the opposite.  I get extras for my nephews on occassion. The only one that has broken is the Kabuki Mater but that is because my nephew purposefully broke it then wanted me to give him mine in the case.  Uh no 🙂

They have been crashed, slammed into walls, thrown off "cliffs" (couch to wall).  In my opinion they are about the same as Mattel with wear and tear.

Again, only my opinion and observation.

My child has broken the spoilers, all of the side view mirrors fall out and the worst, the screws holding the body from the chassis come undone and get lost.

But boy they look nice when stacked.

Total count as of today: 94

Yep we have red who lost his siren on top and a mirror.  Sushi Chefs both lost there forks.  Stars and Stripes LMQ lost his spoiler. And a few other casualties I cannot remember.  But yes they do look great displayed!!

Is there a difference between the cars in the acrylic cases and those in packs in terms of quality? Thanks again, you guys are so helpful! Kiss

They are all the same. Same manufacturers, same molds, same plastics and same screws types.

If one is found on card, in a collector's case or in a box set, the end product is the same in all aspects.

Normally the only difference is the availability. For instance Ivan has only been released in a box set as an exclusive. So it remains to be seen if he will ever get a single release in the acrylic case. But the remaining Maters in that box set are identical to the ones released in the acrylic cases (Taco Truck Mater, Mater Dracula, Mater Dragster and Materhosen).

I hope that helps.

Yeah as Unixed said they are the same.

The Acrylic Cases look pretty cool all stacked up though.

I had too many so I ended up carefully boxing them up and putting them safely in storage.

I can't wait to see the wife's face when we move and I have all my Disney Store cars all stacked up (insert sarcastic smile) plus getting a couple cases for my ever growing Mattel collection too.

LOL, Thanks Unixed and Townie. I feel like I'm a closet collector in some aspects too. If my hubby discovered my collection…well, it wouldn't be pretty Wink

This is funny! I am glad I am not alone. I have to see my wife's face every day when she comes into the "Man Cave" and looks at the collection. As soon as she starts to say something, I direct her to the door since it is my "Man Cave". My kid loves coming down and seeing the collection. He can spot a new edition in a split second while my wife has no idea that the wall of cars is growing to new heights. It is now at 4' x 2'. They are all stacked on an entertainment center to give it a little more dominance visually. If I had more room I would stack them sideways instead of the head on view.

However, I did agreed to slow my roll though. I went crazy hog wild for a bit. Now that I am all caught up, it is easy to stay that way since DS only releases the new Chase editions once a month.

The funny thing is she is totally encouraging and supportive of it.  I just don't think she knows how much it's grown. Surprised

I have 150 Disney Store Cars alone (that includes the box sets I have)

The rest of my Cars are the Mattel ones and I have 136 of those plus Micro Drifters.

Hi , I am new here  and happy to see I am not the only closet collector. I started putting some away to surprise my son. Now he knows I have them but no idea how many. I started late so it made sense to get the Disney Cars. Plus the larger size in the cases and collector sets display so well.

xoxorose,

Welcome, and congratulations! I saw that you were credited by Metroxing on the front page today! Tokyo Mater will fit right into my collection once I get my hands on him.

Since you seem to collect the DS cars in the collector cases, I am not sure if you have seen the checklist I try to keep up to date. If not, here it is: Follow Link

My wall is growing to enormous proportions. I have been keeping all of my duplicates tucked away in the closet. If she saw a 5' x 5' wall of Cars, I think a court house visit will be in my near future.

The wall of Cars is something I love to look at, but it is a hideous sight to my wife.  I guess it is true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Welcome again to T5!

If anyone wants the original run of the Disney Store racers email me.

I would like a fair price on all at once, plus shipping, looking to get 9.00 each if possible.
