Walmart Announces ‘Pick Up Today’ Option … Will Text You …

Walmart announces new ‘pick up today‘ option …

Right now, there are not a lot of items available for pickup today – mostly electronics and appliances but maybe in a few months when they said they are scaling up to 40,000 items, they are going to add toys … maybe a certain toy line …

“In Wal-Mart’s program, which is expected to be nationwide by June, customers can select from among 40,000 items online. They will receive a text message or e-mail alerting them when the order is ready, which usually takes about four hours.

The program will include about 40,000 items like electronics, toys, home décor and sporting goods. As of now, it does not include groceries, though Mr. Nave did not dismiss that possibility.

“We’re not ready to talk today about anything that’s going on in grocery,” he said. “What we’ve tried to do is focus on those categories where customers are most likely to be willing to make the purchase before they touch it or look at it. This is a convenience play, and trying to figure out what are the things that are going to drive more customers into the stores.”

Wal-Mart also announced that it was shortening the time customers would have to wait for ship-to-store items, to four to seven days, from seven to 10 days.”

I think it would be real nice and convenient for the Disney Cars line to be available for pick up. But as always I see them screwing up the orders because of DCPI #’s.

As to walmart checking reciepts… I had no idea we had that right. To me its no inconvenience, I actually give the reciept to my son and he hands it over to the greeter and then gets a smiley face drawn on the reciept. He actually enjoys it.

It is not legal for walmart to check your receipts. The only stores allowed to actually ask to check it are stores like Costco where you pay a membership. You can refuse to show it. Once you purchase your item that is it. Its yours. They can ask but you can refuse. Not really a big deal but I get annoyed when I am trying to exit the store and there is a line to show receipts.

Well…. I am sure there will be NO specific UPCs for Cars items.

They will get it screwed up like everyone else

So technically we will be able to shop CARS items on line and pick-them up after work… That would be great!!! But I doubt CARS items won’t be offered on line.

What infuriates me is the number of stores that opt to not check your identification when swiping a credit card. Target has a fifty dollar tolerance. Fred Meyer allows you to go through a self check out line three times without showing ID if the amount is less than thirty dollars. Borders does it. TRU does it. Pick up a lost credit card and have a field day ripping it off.

I saw a video of a person entering a store, grabbing a motor bike and trying to return it without a receipt. When they declined to give him his money back because he did not have a receipt, he walked it out the front door with the motor bike. Duh!
