Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: The First Final Lap Target-Only “Classic CARS” List

There is a list.

What we don’t know about the Final Lap lineup is longer than the list though.

Will this ALL be in CASE A – maybe?

There are two major portions of this mathematical equation to figure out.

A) Unlike the normal plan of a case every 3-4 weeks (with a different dash code – A, B, C, etc, etc …) the only info we have here is that there will be @40 CARS over the Final Lap card period which should pretty much run about 12 months … or about 3-4 new CARS every month … this first list has 7 ‘new’ CARS never released previously so does this mean this case will be available for “2” months? That sounds reasonable but hard to say …

The other big question is how many will we see on the shelf?

B) Keep in mind this is an odd situation. Because you have to take a step back. Mattel normally sells about 20,000 cases of each mainline singles. Now that the lenticulars are WM, TRU and every other reseller (like CTC) and retailer (Walgreen’s, Fred Mayer), etc, etc … presumably Mattel is continuing to sell 20,000 to them.

Target has about 1,600 stores and presuming with about 30% of the toy market, they bought about 30% of that allotment or about 5,000-6,000 of the monthly 20,000 cases … or about 4 per store – a reasonable assumption but of course, just a guess and clearly it’s an average so in “giving” Target the Final Lap “Classics,” how many is Mattel “making” Target purchase?  You would presume the same amount or perhaps double?

So, 4-8 cases per store per month?

Maybe. We’ll find out out in about a month.

Target Card Shadow CASE A
So, is this CASE A?

It might be reasonable to presume so. But it does NOT say DASH CODE A so I cannot vouch that is the contents of ONE CASE.

Scenario ONE:

It has 11 repeats and 7 “new” CARS … the case should hold 24 so hopefully 6 of the new CARS will have two each and 1 each of the 7th new CAR plus 1 of each of the re-release 11 would add up to 24 …

Or of course, there is the possibility there are 7 new CARS, 1o re-releases and 7 Lightning McQueen’s.

I know – I’m just throwing it out there. I have no idea.

SCENARIO TWO:

It’s really CASE A & CASE B … with the 7 new CARS split up between CASE A & CASE B which would also make sense since it might be strange to have TWO Dexter Hoover with different flags in the same box … so then each CASE might be nice with 5-6 re-releases and the rest of the 18 CARS comprising of up to 5 each of the 3-4 “NEW” CARS?

And of course, you cannot order a case from Target but I guess we’ll know earlier if someone has access to Target’s DB’s …

Meanwhile, enjoy the presumed contents of CASE A or CASE A & CASE B but these look like the first of the FINAL LAP Target-Only Classics (NON-LENTICULAR EYES!!!!!!!!!) How many and what is the question that needs to be answered.

Antonio
You will have to envision this CAR as white to envision Antonio …

Dexter Checkered WM
I think he’s also coming in a 3-pack.

Polly
Tiny.

Skip WM
Reporter.

So report in when you see these. The reset might be as early as August 5th as some Target info mavens have reported … so let us know.

Can anyone advise on Dexter Hoover? I swear I saw a yellow flag one at Target. Is this one of the new ones?

  • Jim klause says:

101 commment!!! Good cars by the way.

  • avengr15 says:

Um, MET . . . what is that uder my post? I did not type that in . . . are we HAUNTED???

    • jestrjef says:

oh, now that is eve more weird . . . . I posted “nice score” on Bills post above . . . it posted with some weird sentence under it that I did not type . . . . I then asked you what it was . . . and now my original post with weird sentance I did not type is GONE . . . . what is going on here??

      • MiaSenorita says:

Jeff, look around you… Do you see a Mutant Mater staring at you from the corner of the room???? I warned you not to buy him!!! He will haunt you and mesmerize you with his googly spiral eyes – making you type strange messages to the other mutants out there!

  • Bill in Simi Valley, CA says:

Went to the tired old Simi Valley Target tonight… Pegs empty, three packs boring, Mack Hauler on second shelf boring. Wait… what’s that there behind it… No way!! Score!! Lonely Trunk Fresh Hauler looking for a good home!!

Keep an eye out. If my Target got it, yours should have it soon…

  • Monica says:

I love you guys, all of ya. Always good readin’ here.

  • Jack says:

1 winner 42 losers. Winner- me at target. Let me tell you
as someone that had to play catch up for months, as my
5 year old only got into serious collecting about 9 months ago.
Nowadays Daddy knows better. Just try beating me To target
I dare you. And whatever store has an exclusive or release on
Black Friday, for the first time I’ll be one of those morons lining
up at 3 in the morning and filling up the cart too! I paid my dues
$time after $time, I’ve done my sentence but committed no crime
bad mistakes I’ve made a few(missing sots ,Tru promotions, Kmart
day one) but now I’ll never lose. (thanks to take 5).

    Jack (John’s Dad)

    • John says:

      you’re not my dad… aha

      • Jack says:

Not unless you try and beat me to something new somewhere. LOL
in which case then I’ll show you who’s your Daddy. How about a
a shopping cart race to the death on Black Friday to the Cars new
release aisle. You can even bring a freind. I’ll whip the both of you.
Sorry I couldn’t resist. Just having some fun.

        • Nascarfan says:

If TFAD ever has a convention, we HAVE to have that for a game to win some cars products. that sounds like fun

          • John in Missouri says:

I would win — I know just where to cut through the clothing section up front, and how to get through the domestics to that little “door” that opens up into the toy section. I’ve tackled many a baby to be first on Saturday mornings.

        • John says:

          ahahah, who’s ur daddy?

        • Eric says:

Have I mentioned how much I like Jack? haha I am with you, guy!

I have spent the last six months “observing” … learning the game. Sure that meant coming in last, buying cars at ridiculous prices, trading my life away for a complete set, yadda, yadda, yadda. Now it’s game on! 11 cases of K-mart day 2 cars later and a swell in my chest… I propose a new “no child left behind”! If my Target rep tells me the reset is on 8/2, I will be there at 8 in the morning bugging every red shirted fool I can find to open up the cases. Have no fear, once we get our 2 of each new car, the rest are up for grabs to my fellow TFAD-ers for cost or trade! I will leave plenty resting on the pegs. I’m not that greedy, plus my GPS now shows me the shortest route to 5 Targets, 5 Wal-marts, 3 TRUs and a whole bunch of Fred Meyers. This week starts the hunt for McQueens (did I really just say that?). Only these gems come with a stupid 5 cent trophy that we all can’t live without. (Somebody find me a Sidewall Shine please!) LOL

    • Monica says:

Weeeeeee are the champions my friendssssss

and weeeeee’ll keep on fightin’ ’til the end….

Weeeeeee are the championsssss, weeeeeee are the champions.

Nooooooo time for loooooosers, cuz weeeeeee are the chaaaaaaampionsss

      ….of the wooooorld!

    • iamspeed says:

Isn’t it STILL ironic that Lightning says that right at the opening of the movie, only to find out that there are ONLY 36 CARS in the race?

Just imagine how much more pumped up we’d all be at this point if we were trying to fill out the full 43 car field, still waiting for releases of single racers?

  • deal or no cars says:

Mattel should have made a Chase package with Dexter Hoover and all his rainbow flags instead of taking our money once again…

  • NicoleH says:

I just talked to my friend at Target who does the resets and the date for here in Des Moines is August 2nd. Safe to say all the Targets across the country will be on or around the same date. Of course, that doesn’t mean they will have all the new stuff in to actually fill the pegs and shelves. He said right now alot of stuff is in the 20% range of being in. Though there are still 3 weeks till the date.

    • TJH-AZ says:

If you want to hedge your bets that the new cases will get stocked during the reset, buy up all of what’s hanging on the pegs and then return them after the’ve restocked.

  • Knightrider says:

It’ll be interesting to see how the international line is gonna pan out with all these changes in the US. The singles in my area appear to have dried up completely, still got WOC cards in some places.

  • Roswell says:

    ugh! im soooo bored!!!!

  • Mike H says:

I think this may also be the ‘Final Lap’ for me.

I’ve put a block on myself regarding:

    Cars Toons
    Cars 2
Haulers (with the exception of Jerry Recycled Batteries)
    Non-canon vehicles

I’m thinking once ‘Final Lap’ and all the SOTS racers are released, I’ll say goodbye to CARS collecting.

Of course, I may need to fork over money and have someone customize an AppleCar, since it’s probably a good bet that it’ll never see the light of day.

    • Mr. T says:

      Hmmmmmm…….That is what I said too……..

      Resistance is Futile!!!

Still resisting the minis though……….never going to do those…..

      • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

even the racers??? they are super cute lol

      • Mike H says:

I’ve also resisted the mini’s and the lenticulars as well.

If I allow myself any ‘spoils,’ it’s in the form of the mega-size…if only I could find Sven or Frank.

        • John in Missouri says:

The Mini Hauler’s were unresistable to us, but the Lenticulars are obviously not Scottish because they are CRAP!! We will never buy Lenticulars!

        • iamspeed says:

Hey Mike H, I’ve got extra Franks if you need one or two. My cost + shipping/PayPal fees is all I ask for in return. tjgraham1924 at hotmail dot com

          • Mike H says:

Thanks for the offer. It is tempting, but I’ve found that as soon as I order from someone online, I find the same item 1-2 weeks later in the store (it happened with Elvis RV). Plus, if the upcoming Mega-size case numbers are to be believed, it won’t be as hard as it was trying to find Dustin Mellows.

            • jmularczyk says:

good idea, I find the same thing happens to me and it turns out I finally found Frank this weekend as I was passing though a Kroger to pick up some drinks. I couldn’t believe that Frank would be hanging out all by himself in a Kroger of all places. I’m in the Detroit metro area so if someone wants to hit all the Krogers they are now in play.

            • iamspeed says:

Hey, I’ve found the same thing happens to me, especially if I order a case…..they show up in the stores before the case even ships. Thought I’d offer just in case.

              • Mike H says:

                Thanks again.

As it stands, the SOTS racers are the ones that just make me seethe a bit everyday. I wouldn’t have bought the KMart ones, if I was convinced that the launchers would be found. It took 6 months before I even saw a Shifty Drug/Vitoline/Tank Coat assortment. I doubt right now I’ll even see Fiber Fuel or Rev-N-Go on the shelves.

Though I just don’t see how they can re-release N20 Cola and Revolting so soon, and no word on Sidewall Shine or the foreign releases. I refuse to pay $40-70 for Sidewall, because I know as soon as I do…there’ll be some Launcher or offer that will have it for much less.

  • Daniel says:

Met, I don’t think we should discount the possibility that the classic cases will continue to hold 18 cars.

I also doubt there will be 12 different cases. There were only 8 ROR single cases (plus 1 for K-Mart). It would seem like a lot of trouble to produce 12 different cases for 1 retailer. My guess would be 6 different cases and like the Story Tellers, 2 released at the same time every 3-4 months.

Also, the list above only has 17 cars.

(MET: Yea, it’s just a list and not a case assortment – other than they are on the list and will be out … don’t even know much more …).

  • Roswell says:

    HOW MANY MCQUEENS?????

    *jawdrop*

  • Daniel says:

    Long Live Target!!

  • CaptainChunk says:

Have I complained recently about how stupid an idea it is to make this, or anything else, exclusive to Target? I can’t remember the last time I was in a Target that showed any effort in trying to stock it’s Cars section.

Mattel, dump those hideous, gimmicky, googly eyed Cars and sell these to everyone.

*IF* I can find these anywhere, it’ll be nice to not have to buy a three pack just to get Dexter with the checkered flag though.

  • John in Missouri says:

I’m probably alone in saying this, but I love the “boring” cars like Chuck Manifold and Skip Richter. Maybe because like me, they are not flashy?

  • collectormom says:

I have 2 WM, 2 Target, 1 KM and 1 TRU by me now and none of them have had anything new since we moved here. This area is a virtual ghost town of Cars; I found the Sparemint gift pack at the PX & the Trunk Fresh hauler on TRU.com and that’s been it for months now (not including the KM Cars of course). I sure hope things improve after BTS is over because I don’t want to resort to eBay either

  • iamspeed says:

MET, are we still going to see “Crew Chief/Pit Crew Mack”?

I know we’ve seen the beautiful custom version on TakeFive, but I thought I remembered an actual Mattel version of Mack. Any info available?

(MET: Yep, there are plans for a Pit Crew Mack).

  • cac1959 says:

Looking forward to these new Cars… sure hope that I can find them without resorting to eBay… the nearest Target is 45 miles away, and I have to drive over 100 miles one way to have access to multiple stores…

It would be great if we could by these online at Target.com, either as singles or as cases.

  • iamspeed says:

Maybe, and I say maybe, this will help to explain why Target has been so dry lately in regards to CARS 1:55 regulars. I mean, it’s been weeks and weeks since our nearest store has put out anything, and they won’t go bring out anything to fill the hooks if you ask…….even when the scanner shows stock in the back room.

  • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

Lol looks like we will continue checking target everyday hahahah I think it will be cool either way if its 1 case or 2 its still new stuff!

  • hostile takeover banker says:

no matter what the case may contain, rest assure there is a lightning mcqueen in there. wouldn’t want to miss that one folks.

    • iamspeed says:

Let’s be fair, though……..Lightning is the star of the movie, so he needs to be present in any case at least once.
I still see kids pick Lightning(or Mater) out of the whole display if their parents let them choose any one they want.

    • John in Missouri says:

And do we REALLY need another Radiator Springs McQueen? Seriously, really!

      • PirateDad says:

I think Met is being overly optimistic…24 cars in the case, Seven new ones, and 1o older repeats makes 17 cars, I only count 17 on the list above, that means 24-17=7, so Seven extra LM for a total of 8 LM in the case!! Boy I like Met’s math better than mine!

        • Mike H says:

The one thing they really should consider is upping the number of Maters in the cases. I can’t help but remember when I bought my first cars over 3 years ago…I didn’t get Lightning without getting Mater.

It’s like kids who see Toy Story- most want Woody and Buzz. I don’t think I’ve seen Mater as a single-carded except in the last 7 months once at TRU.

Though one has to wonder if they’ll do the ‘Chase’ thing with ‘Final Lap.’ I could imagine if Dexter Hoover Maybe with a ‘green flag’ was the short-packed of the two, as I’m sure most of us would want a checkered flag moreso than a green.

(MET: No official CHASE but I’m sure some MAY be short packed in its INITIAL shipment but eventually, it should all even out … no guarantees of course … :-/ ).

  • hostile takeover banker says:

final lap makes it sound as though it is my final chance to get these!

I just hope I do and not at Ebaylien prices.

  • Matt says:

Target really hit a homerun with getting this exclusive deal… See ya later Walmart with your googly eyed McQueens clogging the shelves…

The only way to work this out is to boycott the lenticular line, and make Walmart throw some gorilla weight around to get this thing. I’ve said it before, and now again, I will not buy a lenticular car….

    • jmularczyk says:

yea, I’ve seen the lenticulars and I’m very disapointed. They only have two looks, eyes opened and no eyes at all. I thought they were suppose to look left, right, up and down. It’s worse than the ‘new’ coke fiasco.

      • iamspeed says:

There’s a NEW Coke…….dang, I’ve gotta get to the store!!!

        • Mike H says:

These days they call it Coke II. I’ve seen it in seedy corner stores, but never had the nerve to try it.

(MET: It’s just an overly sweet Coke … they might have finally phased it out).

          • iamspeed says:

Hey, I was only kidding!!! The memories of New Coke/Coke II are still scary.

Now, having said that, I’ve heard that the Coke that you can buy in some of the specialty markets, that’s bottled in Mexico, is really, really good, because it’s sweetened with Cane Sugar.

I saw a comment online that the Costco stores have it……I’ll have to look next time we’re there.

            • chuki_mama says:

It IS really really good! 🙁 Unfortunately, now it seems as if the standard coke isn’t as good anymore. 🙂

              • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Chuki, That ‘Costco’ Coke from Mexico is like the Coke from the 1950’s and 1960’s before corn syrup was ‘invented.’ The New Coke was a gimmick that was to replace the Coke which was not the cane sugar Coke. Costco sells a case for a little less than $20.00 per 24 bottle case last time I bought a case. I have seen it at Wal-Mart for $1.75 per bottle.

(MET: You can read all about at some site called TakeFiveADay).

                • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

                  PS:

Hmm! That’s before most of you were born and I bought cold Coke in a 7 oz glass bottles for ten cents and two cents candy. Yeah, and Saturday at the movies was 25 cents for 25 color cartoons, two shorts like the Three Stooges, and a feature. Six hours of babysitting for a quarter! 🙂

(MET: Things were that cheap in the 80’s? … 🙂 I remember when movies were $8.00).

              • 5oclockshadow says:

woohoo! this calls for me to bring back my old avatar.

Coke II was great! Tasted like 3/4 Pepsi and 1/4 Coke mixed together. but it uses corn syrup. I think it can only be found in American Samoa now..

the Mexican Coke in Costco is actually like Coke Classic from pre-1985 which uses cane sugar to sweeten instead of the corn syrup. This is the superior Coke product

now if they would only put the coca back 😛

            • Patrick says:

Sam’s has it in cases! Kroger, ChiTown, Marsh.

    • iamspeed says:

Uh, you’d have to boycott ToysRUS as well…….our stores got the lenticulars in their last 2 shipments!

    • TarheelBill says:

The lenticulars around here are a bust! Other than the two Chase Cars, the others from Case A are just jamming up the pegs. One dept. mgr. has already started bugging the Mattel Rep. about a swap out (remember the blimps) but no such luck yet. Whoever sold WM and the other “lenticular” retailers on this line probably has some ocean front property in Kansas for sale if anyone is interested. 🙂

      • EM says:

Same here. I won’t see the case B chase anytime soon because there is no room at any of the four local WMs for case B to be stocked–other than the two chase, everything seems to be sitting there gathering dust. I just hope they don’t have a bunch of case A in the back or I will never see the case B chase.

  • Blake from MN says:

    sweet! I can’t wait

  • L8rM8r says:

If that were what the new case were to contain I would go to Target every day until it hit the shelves. That would be something.
