Back in February, reliable sources dropped some exciting news that Mattel was gearing up for an official collaboration between Disney Pixar’s Cars and Formula 1, echoing the successful crossover lines they previously did with NASCAR. Today, the sales have been launched, and this highly anticipated exclusive 3-pack is the very first one available!

The Disney Store Drop Madness
Getting your hands on this set has already proven to be a high-speed race. On the morning of Monday, August 17th, various Disney Store websites put their exclusive D23 (2026) collector items on sale.
Because of the massive site traffic, collectors had to join a virtual queue and wait about 15 minutes just for the chance to buy the set. Sales were strictly limited to one single copy per order, but even that couldn't slow down the demand—the product completely sold out in less than 2 hours.
A bit later in the day, the product page offered a glimmer of hope, displaying a message that a new sale drop might happen on August 27th. Unfortunately, since then, the product page has completely vanished from the site, leaving many fans in the dark.
Finding It In Stores & Upcoming Releases
But don't lose hope just yet! Parallel to this exclusive online sale, eagle-eyed collectors are actually managing to find these in the wild at a few physical retail stores. We've even had reports of collectors successfully tracking them down in stores in U.S. and Greece.
For those who missed the online rush, there is a reliable backup plan on the horizon: the box set is scheduled to go on sale on the Smythstoys website starting September 4th.
A Closer Look at the F1 Die-Casts Let's take a quick look at the cars themselves, which feature some fantastic new details.
Starting off with Lightning McQueen, who looks incredible in his track-ready F1 makeover. Mattel has added a really premium touch to his design: on the rear of his bodywork, the dots in his decorative elements are actually raised and palpable to the touch, giving the paint job an authentic, tactile racing feel.

Naturally, Francesco Bernoulli takes center stage in this set. As the premier open-wheel racer, this crossover is perfect for him. Matching McQueen's high-quality finish, Francesco also features these unique raised dots within the decoration elements on the front of his bodywork, blending seamlessly with his iconic tricolor Italian design.

We finish off the pack with Francesco’s trusty pitty, Alex Machino. Stamped officially as a Security Vehicle to fit the Grand Prix aesthetic, he comes ready for the pit lane alongside a stack of F1 racing tires and a sleek red tool chest.

Did you manage to survive the virtual queue and score one of these sets, or are you holding out for the September 4th release? Let us know in the comments below!
