Can you believe it’s been two decades since we first took a road trip down Route 66? To celebrate this massive milestone, Disney and Pixar are putting the 2006 classic back on the big screen this September. Whether you want to relive your childhood nostalgia or introduce a new generation of tiny racing fans to the Piston Cup, this is an event you won't want to miss.
Mark Your Calendars: Worldwide Release Dates
Grab your pit crew and check out when Cars is racing into a theater near you this September 2026:
United States & Canada: The engines start on Friday, September 4, 2026. Keep an eye out for early preview screenings on Thursday, September 3, at major chains like AMC Theatres.
Australia & New Zealand: Fans down under get an early start on Thursday, September 3, 2026 (via networks like HOYTS).
France: Saving the best for last, the French release is set for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, perfectly aligned with their traditional midweek movie premieres.
Rest of the World: Pixar has confirmed a rollout across the UK, Europe, and Latin America throughout the entire month of September. Precise dates will vary by local exhibitors.
"Float like a Cadillac, sting like a Beemer!"
If you've only ever watched Cars on your couch via Disney+ or an old DVD, you are missing out on the scale of the Dinoco 400. Seeing the opening race sequence with Dolby Atmos sound and a massive screen is a completely different experience.
A Quick Word of Warning...
Much like previous Disney/Pixar anniversary re-releases, this event is expected to be a highly limited engagement. We are likely looking at a one-week-only run (or even just a special weekend event in some regions).
Tickets are expected to go on sale later this summer, so make sure to follow your local theater's newsletter to snag your seats before they sell out.
Are you ready to turn right to go left one more time? See you at the movies!
