Mattel Posts 22% Increase in Q3 Profits …

“For the quarter ended Sept. 30, the El Segundo retailer posted a profit of $365.9 million, or $1.04 a share, up nearly 22% from $300.8 million, or 86 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Sales also rose 4% to $2.08 billion.

The results beat analyst expectations.

At Mattel, American Girls sales increased 16% while Fisher Price rose 6%. That offset a 4% drop in Barbie, a decline in toys linked to the movie “Cars 2″ and flat sales in Hot Wheels items.”

So lame. They could really do so much better with Cars 🙁 They need to hire Met as a consultant.

That store sells more baby gear than toys, so of course if Mattel doesn’t release new Cars items will never know how much profit they can make there!

I’m trying to think what my most recent Cars2 purchases have been… Metallic Finish Miguel Camino… one each of Victor H and Vladimir Trunkov that I saw at a Kroger store in Bloomington, Indiana last month at a conference.

No new Movie Moments, singles, oversized… no Rip launcher… overpriced 4, 5, 7, 10, and 12 packs with 1 new Car.

Meanwhile, Radiator Springs Classic merchandise has been fairly avaiable at TRU… Take Flight Deluxe have been available though inconsistently distributed.

Where are the Cars2 Cars from the singles cases that were canceled and supposed to be arriving at Walmart?

If there are new Cars products many of us will buy them.

Meanwhile, on ebay the rarest Cars 2 singles are soaring in prices.

Well when you have no competition and you have exclusive rights merchandising rights and have all the right shareholders with the right connections to other corporations(banking, transit, retail, etc.) nothing else really matters does it?
The wealthy shareholders will get theirs no matter what. Any dip will just be passed onto the consumer or cuts to factory workers anyway. Hopefully Mattel will feel like giving Cars collectors some good stuff to buy soon. We are at their mercy.

Awesome, good job boys! Now let’s light some cigars with $100 bills and toast with baby seal tears!
Seriously, this is only going to make things worse for Cars collectors. Mattel will think “Hey we are making money faster than we can count it, no problems here!” “Oh, and since sales are down on that Cars rubbish let’s EOL it so we will be moooooore profitable next quarter!”

  • chuki_mama says:

“a decline in toys linked to the movie “Cars 2″ is due to the face that there is nothing good to buy. Parents and collectors can only buy sooo much Finns.

    • Jack says:

So ridiculously obvious too. Let’s see. Nearly every Cars 2 single sent to every store sold except the over abundant, packed in too many assortments Lightning, Mater, Francesco and Finn.
Nearly every deluxe except Finns have sold at every store.
Nearly every 2 pack except the ones with- lets guess- Lightning, Mater,  Francesco and Finn have sold.
Hey how about Mattel filling the pegs with ones that sell and just give rid of the overstock commons ones mistake and resume selling more again.
Again I know why because the bosses are making theirs no matter what so it’s not really important enough to care about to the people that would have to care to change it.
