Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Diecast: Petersen Museum Exhibit Opening, Part I

The Petersen Museum Exhibit of: “From Silver Screen to Diecast – Disney Pixar CARS Imagined by Mattel” opened to the public today. It will run until April 2012.

You can see in more details of this section in Part II of this post (which covers the unreleased CARS of CARS 1).

And your hallway looks like this also, right?

And Mariela P. & Julia B. was there to represent T5 and snap us some great pics …

And your CARS 2 display … guess this couldn’t fit on the store shelves …

And yep, there’s Rip …

Some new CARS 2 from the booklet and previously seen at SDCC …

Not Limey Ramone, there’s another one.

And a few others already seen …

A new fun Tokyo oversized to add to the list …

And previously seen …

And a couple surprises …

Released in the Final Lap series but now chromed up for a re-release? Maybe it’s just another “old” CAR with a new name? Or the plan was to make Derek chrome but they decided to save money and use matte so this is just a random proto shot? Or maybe Derek Dobbs is getting a re-release?

Originally scheduled as a Final Lap so just randomly shown? Also suspiciously chrome? Maybe some old timers chrome box set coming? Or some old timers chrome box planned – now just a dead gleam in someone’s eye?

Nothing obvious listed in coming soon so hard to tell what’s what.

Some notes from Julia:

“I don’t want to be bearer of the bad news, but it did not look that they were bringing haulers back….However I saw very very cool cars that should be coming out. Big display (Lightning McQueen shaped case) was a big mix of lenti, cars 1, cars 2 and few sdcc cars. I wish they would separate them somehow and found different way to display. Also toons were thrown in the mixture as well.

Was nice to see real red ransburg, sots and sdcc items like lightning storm mcqueen. Display with haulers was nicely done, but some pitty were identical to each other. Some sets did not have pitty at all. And there were no signs of crew chiefs.”

Thanks for the great pics, Julia B & Mariela P!
