Disney Pixar CARS: Mater PI & Moon Mater Diecast Ideas Sneak Peek

The Mater Tall Tales DVD is coming out next Tuesday … “Steven H-B” was kind enough to slip some video grabs a few days early – as a double spoiler alert, I will NOT discuss the plots so you can enjoy them freely but I will run some photos below which are spoilers so if you don’t want to know, avert your eyes!

The name pretty much gives you plot … d’uh … of course, the Mater shorts are not exactly Thomas Pychon stories so …

Ramone will be happy to see a relative …

Humm, I wonder if these might make it out as diecasts …

I don’t know about you but I’d make 6 feet of space for this carrying-display “vehicle.”

And Mater PI:

PI Candy …

I can tell you it’s most lines Tia (and Mia) has ever spoken …

Can anyone say ‘box set.’

Just another dusty garbage truck …

And Big D … too bad there’s no Dusenberg mold laying around that can be easily modified to release this in some box set … HEY WAIT A MINUTE!

These are just a RANDOM SAMPLING of the fun CARS featured in these two shorts … try to resist shouting ME WANTEEE!!! while you watch these in the first go around. It will only annoy the kids … or annoy them because you are drowning them out … 🙂

There are at least a few dozen more – sadly there’s no Toons list yet for 2011 so we don’t know when these might be out but clearly, some are VERY VERY familiar and won’t take a lot of work but we clearly need a mega, mega deluxe line for the Shuttle and a megaton megapolis megamillion deluxe line for the carrier – but only for those who are picky about scale. No one I know who collects this line. 🙂

In a way, it’s understandable that these two were not shown on the Disney Channel and instead will premiere (or be available on the DVD or for online purchase) as they are aimed more at the adults. Moon Mater is not really a jokey setup and punchlines but actually a dazzling display of Pixar animation – every detail just right along with the big visuals. It’ll be fun to see on the giant home screen.

Mater PI definitely is aimed at film noir fans …

It is more in line with the other Mater shorts – lots of little jokes though kids might be confused by the concept of monochrome and of course, the little film noir jokes – and so, it might be more fitting on a DVD instead of airing on the Disney Channel where adults will appreciate it more – though who doesn’t want a diecast of Mater driving disguised as a bunch of crates. 🙂

The DVD will be in stores next Tuesday or order from Amazon – they will ship it so you get on Tuesday.

Pre-Order the Disc From AMAZON. (The Blu Ray DVD contains both the Blu Ray version & the DVD version).

Or the plain ole DVD version. Amazon.

It’s also available on iTunes which might be available as soon as after midnight? 🙂

So, if you can’t wait and-or want a copy for your iDevice or your Mac-PC …

The Mater Tall Tales “DVD” is now available for pre-order on iTunes (US).

(clicking on graphic will launch iTunes).

If you have technical questions, you can check this link to our previous post.

Thanks for the heads up “Steven HB.”

UPDATE: Good news for international fans – it looks like the Blu Ray is region free.

The diecast lines from both of the shorts will be amazing. So many great ones to make.
Talk about pitty sets; between the band and longshoremen pitties. Now those will be some sets.
Roger rocket is going to be huge. I see a space shuttle playset Coming. Super space launcher maybe?
My son said he want Lutinent McQueen. I want Stinky the garbage truck. Just so many great characters to make.
The toons releases are getting better and better. I think that was the plan all along. Better and more diverse characters as they are going along. It’s working whatever they are doing.

  • Alex says:

MET: Are these toons longer than your average toon?

    (MET: @3:46 & 4:15).

  • Stu says:

Looks to be great fun! The only thing I would
like to add is that the very old sedan shown is actually
a Packard and not a Duesenberg. I would know that
    “waterfall” grille anywhere.

  • I-am-speed says:

Gotta love the eyes, cap/hat, and mouth on the aircraft carrier! 🙂

  • Roswell says:

i has a question, ive looked online and havnt found an answer…

will, and when will the DVD version be relesed in the Uk?

(MET: Doesn’t look like it’s scheduled – Amazon UK only lists the US releases as ‘import’ items. The discs are NTSC of course though the Blu Ray seems to be region free).

  • jambouk says:

Blu ray region free…..what about the dvd?????

  • Kevin W says:

I visited several K-Marts today. What happened? Did they just put away all the cars from “Day 5”? I didn’t see a trace of them. But there were lots of “Day 4” cars still there. Just saying…

  • lou says:

    MET:

whatever happened to the clown cars set that was supposed to be released?

(MET: Not happening soon is the only answer so far – sorry).

  • dikenlitel says:

Maybe we can meet Lizzie and Stanley somewhere around the shorts.

  • boogity says:

jurys out on some of the future diecasts – dustin melloews springs to mind!

    boogity

  • BMW says:

Oh, Brazilians are going to be pleased. Boom Chica Chica Boom Chic.
    Flo as Carmen Miranda.

  • kdthomas says:

Not very creative to use the same molds over and over but I guess if you build it (again and again), the lemmings will buy another ambulance and Dustin Mellows no matter which way you paint it.

I have a strong feeling that the new Cars 2 is just a dream sequence (Mater Tall Tale).

  • cars-in-your-eyes says:

Impala 13 is on the Moon!

  • Robert from the Netherlands says:

The blu Ray and Dvd version are already released yesterday in the Netherlands. I have seen all the Mater Tales and especially Moon Mater is great. The idea of a Mattel Space Shuttle is wonderful.

  • cac1959 says:

Can’t wait to get the blu-ray… I think that’s the only Cars item that my wife will consider buying me for my birthday next month… and some of the characters in the videos look awesome…

I should never have started collecting the Cars Toon diecasts… I said I wasn’t going to start, but I did… and then I said I’d stop before the Tokyo Mater Toons… then after the Tokyo Mater Toons… and then I bought the UFM Toons… and the Monster Truck Mater Toons… and now…

It looks like I’m going to collect them all…

  • cars-in-your-eyes says:

Cars Toon – Mater’s Tall Tales (Blu-ray / DVD) has been confirmed region free!

Doesn’y appear as if will be released soon in Europe, so go ahead and order from the US. I think there are 3 Language choices – English, Spanish and French

My kids love the 2 new toons!

I differ from Jack as I think Moon Mater is better!

  • gorgeous703 says:

I ordered mine from Amazon for my 2 yr old and of course for myself! 🙂
I’m so glad “babychristianscars” reminded me with their post about Toy Story 3…that’s another “Must Have”. I’ve been so busy lately that I totally forgot to order it!

I’ll be sure to order it thru TakeFive’s link so this site gets a portion from the sale. Like Met states “Every little bit helps”!

  • Shawn says:

It might be cool to see the P.I. Mater line released in black and white. Do you think the bandage is an homage to Jake Gittes in Chinatown?

    • Stig McQueen says:

I was thinking tjhe same thing! Grayscale diecasts on a grayscale card – how awesome would that be?!?

Oh, and I don’t think the concept will be “beyond” the kids’ grasp; “Phineas and Ferb” did a black-and-white PI story in a recently-aired episode…

      • John in Missouri says:

I completely agree, when I told my kids that it would be in Black & White, they immediately knew what that was and why. I’m sure Spongebob Squarepants has something to do with it somehow. 🙂

    • Shawn says:

My son asked me about black and white about a year ago. I took inspiration from Calvin’s dad (from Calvin and Hobbes) and told him that there was no color in the world before 1950.

  • Jack says:

Met hit the nail right on the head that Mater PI is definitely aimed more toward adults. However my 6 year old son loved it too.
As I posted on The trading forum Mater PI absolutely blew me away. It’s awesome! Probably my favorite short ever and the diecasts they can make from Mater PI are going to be incredible. Can’t see how it could have been done any better.
Felt just like I was watching an old black and white private eye movie from the 40’s only with our favorite characters instead.

    • Fillmore1234 says:

Is there a link???? I REALLY want to see these when they come out but I have no intention on spending $10.00 on a DVD that’s only 30-35 minutes long… unless there is a Car that comes with it.

(MET: You mean besides the embedded links above to the DVD & iTunes?)

      • Fillmore1234 says:

i said that i dont want to spend any money on this… or is there a way to get it free?

(MET: They might add it to the CARS DisneyChannel online in a few months?)

        • Fillmore1234 says:

that or YouTube… gotta love YouTube! 😉
Already checked it about an hour ago and nobody has it up… I can see why. But usually someone found it when someone accidentally leaked it out to the Internet. *Sigh* You can only dream………

  • babychristianscars says:

    Awesome.

I preordered it with the toy story 3 movie and the new tall tale book due out 2011.

  • jestrjef says:

This will be a great christmas present and will open some space on the DVR!! 🙂

  • Fanboy77 says:

Has anyone heard about the possibility of a deluxe set for the Blu-ray/DVD that would include exclusive cars from the new shorts? Like what they did with the Cars movie… That would be sweet 😎

  • buckland-blowouts says:

Way to go Disney!!! Private eye Mater ROCKS!!! Lovin’ the mia/tia thang!!! And flo!!! What a babe!!! A-cha-cha-cha!!! Its times like these that make me so proud to have this addiction to toys!!! I am a Cars-o-holic and happy to be one!!!

  • RICK says:

I can’t wait till Tuesday!!! Speaking of waiting…Has anyone got their order confirmations from the Kmart preorder yet. I talked to a Kmart rep yesterday and he said my order will be shipped as soon as it is available in the warehouse. Shouldn’t they already be there? Is anyone else having this issue?

    • John in Missouri says:

Kmart’s preorders would make for a GREAT Harvard Business Case. I think I’ll contact one of my old Professors — they might want to use this as soon as next semester.

  • John in Missouri says:

    Love the NASA trucks!!

  • Micky says:

OMG…Flo and the pitty’s box set!!! Collectors (me) will be camping out at TRU for that one 🙂
