Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Mater by Mattel is Greater … Part II

Both are two of the nicest diecast box sets EVER … Part I is here

This is the other box set from Mater the Greater …

First, one of the coolest and greatest diecasts ever – capturing perfectly the personality of this version of Mater but also the great reproduction of Mater the Aviator …

In additional to the “helmet” & goggles looking realistic leather and vinyl, and while they are plastic of course, they actually feel like vinyl-leather-ish …

Sometimes in a hurry to collect them all, we forget to look and touch – magnifico!

And as covered in Part I, the Pitty is different from the two included in the other Box Set AND different from Lug or Nutty (the single card Pitty).

And yes, Prop McGee is a re-paint of Barney Stormin’ but what a repaint. It definitely stands on its own as another great addition.

For comparison, here is Lightning McQueen with Teeth next to the other “Rockets McQueen.”

And of course, you will need Lug & Nutty to properly recreate the Canyon Jump …

Lightning McQueen with Teeth is on the left …

More cool – more better – collect them all. 🙂

Props McGee is more diecast metal, while Barney Stormin’ (at least the one we have) is more plastic.

I need some clarification on what is out there for Mater the Greater. Can someone please double check my list and let me know what (if any) I’m missing?

    Small and Mega Singles:
    Cannonball Mater
    Props McGee
    High Dive Mater
    Lug & Nutty

    4 Packs
Pack #1: DareDevil Lightning McQueen (with Teeth); Mater the Aviator, Lug & Props McGee
Pack #2: Mater the Greater, Lug, Nutty & High Dive Mater

    Still yet to be released:
    Mia and Tia (fans)
Trinket Seller (seen this on the back of some othe tall tales package)

I’ve also seen pix and these could have been prototypes of the following. Do they exist?
Daredevil Lightning McQueen but with no teeth
    Rocket (or Rocket Pack) Mater

    Many Thanks

(MET: Looks like you have all so far … yes, the other ones are scheduled but we do not have a release yet).

  • Nascarfan says:

looks like the hood opens on mater…

  • collectormom says:

Is Buck the Tooth Vendor out now? I found a Mega Size Props McGee; Buck is pictured on the back of the card

    (MET: Not yet …).

  • NeoSK says:

i hate the Rocket McQueen in the last picture. Obviously mattel is cheating again by having flaming and non-flaming Rocket McQueen..

  • KellBell says:

Does anyone know what size this aviator mater is because I bought one from disney store that was much bigger than normal size cars that you buy at walmart so are these bigger too? TY

    • iamspeed says:

These(Mattel) die-cast are 1:55 scale, the larger Disney Store versions are 1:43 scale.

Scale does not change WITHIN the same (brand) line…..with Mattel, both Mega size and the regular cars are 1:55 in scale, but the Megas are the larger vehicles.
Disney Store cars are all 1:43 scale, making both cars and larger vehicles all larger than their Mattel counterparts.

One note: the detailing is much better on the smaller Mattel versions than anything I’ve seen in the Disney Store’s larger versions.

      • Lorri says:

I agree. While very nice, here is just something a little off about the Disney ones. I think it has to do with expressions and eyes as well as small detailing.

    • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

There’s a disney store aviator mater out already! ???

  • Jinzo says:

These look really nice. Can’t wait to get them… Damn…have a lot to collect from Mater Series still… only have Dr. Mater single, Nurse GTO single, & Doused Burned LM single. Have a long way to go with this series 🙁

  • kdthomas says:

Notice that the second McQ Rocket Car is missing his headlights. The plastic fronts also do not match the car color either. All the others look okay though. I’m finished with the Story Tellers. If the main line was more available I would be more inclined to get more ST, but not for now.

  • jestrjef says:

Again, I must say, these sets rock!

  • Jeff says:

If they were not $25 + tax here at TRU, I’d get both. Are these TRU exclusive?

(MET: No, avail everywhere but it might be a few more weeks before they start re-stocking).

  • cac1959 says:

The Mater the Greater 4 packs are definitely awesome. For those of you who live near a Meijer store (they are located in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky), the everyday price for the 4 packs is $19.99 plus tax.

I did open up an Aviator Mater 4 pack to see what the material on the helmet felt like… it does feel like leather… I will buy a second one to keep sealed on display…

As long as these 4 packs stay with a high quality and multiple new items, I’m going to collect them all!

  • 5oclockshadow says:

I really like the Aviator Mater…

does his leather flight helmet come off?

the blue in the eye looks like paint to me… where his door hinge is perhaps?

(MET: Helmet does not normally come off but let’s round up a bunch of 3-year old’s and see if it comes off and how many seconds 🙂 ).

  • kerner7777 says:

What is that blue thing in Mater’s eye?

  • buckland-blowouts says:

I dunno… But I WILL COLLECT THEM ALL!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

My wife is cringin’ in the background askin’ “Will this thing ever end!?!?!?!?!”

(this is only the beginning baby!!!)

  • lou says:

when is the rocket mcqueen w/out teeth and w/ torches lit, set to be released? is this a single?

    (MET: Megasize)
