Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Mater by Mattel is Greater … Part I

The Mater the Greater Box Sets are a fitting example of diecast greatness …

High Dive mater is the same from all angles that I could tell but still one of the nicest diecast’s ever … it’s both cool and funny.

Comparison with the megasize release … (sorry, pic is sliced off)

The Pitty’s come with the large plastic sign …

The Pitty’s are not directly attached but the sign is designed so their forks slip underneath.

AND the Pitty’s are ALL “different.”

This is LUG & NUTTY from the SINGLES series.

These are the THREE Pitty’s from the TWO Box Sets (Part II is in another post coming later today).

As you can see, different facial expressions and different eye positions.

Lug & Nutty on the right and the three Pitty’s from the two Mater the Greater Box Sets.

Mater the Greater (from Box Set above) and “Sooty” Cannonball Mater – on Megasize card release only.

So, while High Dive Mater is available on a card, the two Pitty’s are different from the singles, Lug & Nutty and different from the Pitty in the other Mater the Greater Box Set … AND only this set contains the SIGN and only this set feature the clean version of Cannonball Mater, called Mater the Greater for now. They are listed as megasize releases.

I don’t really know why there is a “clean” Cannonball Mater. He was Mater the Greater before going in, and “sooty” after coming out. So are we calling Mater the Greater the “clean” Cannonball Mater? If so, why?

For now yes. But both are expected to be released as Mega too, right?

(MET: oops, late night – didn’t finish the sentence – now updated).

    • 5oclockshadow says:

so they are going to release the sign as a single? weird..

(MET: On Megasize list but will it atually fit and come out???)

    • por356 says:

Actually, the clean version of Cannonball Mater has been out for a couple of months in a play set, however I expect that version was plastic instead of die cast since he was expected to fly through the air with the greatest of ease.

I bought one just to get the Mater but never opened it. When I saw that these 4 packs were coming out (Thanks, Met!), the set went back to the store.

Two Maters in one box set, or is that a twin?

  • Matt says:

The one pitty looks like he might have a little bit of gum disease…. next up…. mater the dentist tackles super abcess…

  • John in Missouri says:

So cool!! Evil Knievel, I hope you’re getting a cut of the action here!!

  • jestrjef says:

I love these new sets. I also LOVE that Mattel took the time to make EVERY pitty different. I . . . um . . . I mean my kids πŸ˜‰ , cannot wait to find these in the wild! πŸ™‚

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

β€œone of the nicest diecasts ever.. it’s both cool and funny.” need I say more about these?

  • Jeaks says:

I have all the megasize of these obtained from Shangahi Toys R Us but I like the box sets as they display much better. I will have to ‘Collect them all’ if the pittys are different and the sign only comes in the box.
