Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Target-Lump All the DPCI’s, Lumpy Shipping

So, you better not pout, you better not shout swear words, I’m telling you why … cause Target has one DPCI number …

The one DPCI for a sundry of things works fine if it’s all for red, white and blue plates … all will work on the 4th of July … but order this …

invoice
And the warehouse just grabs whatever else is in the DPCI bin …

Card

Okay, not a tragedy but most people still like to get what they ordered.

And yes, now PHASE II of the shipping problem.

Alright, the very small good news – no one like a giant retail sticker on a product that is a collectible but on shrink wrap, okay, that’s acceptable …

BUT hardly anyone wants something shrink wrapped if it damaged the original product …

Sealed Side
Er, yikes?

How’s about some packing peanuts or air bags and we’ll call it a day?

SealedMaybe they should include that sign they use in the aisles – collectors …

Target Shrink Too
Shrink wrapped for your protection?

So, if you order from Target.com, I hope you’re an opener …

Of course, Mattel actually includes a cardboard sleeve to hold the two flaps apart so the antimatter doesn’t touch and crush the hopes and dreams of sealed collectors …

But I guess Target tossed that for the weight?

At least they were standup about it and refunded the shipping but I think it was because they shipped the wrong items and not because they shrinkwrapped it …

Target definitely needs to rethink adding more DPCI’s if they intend to start selling more stuff online (or for that matter), in stores.

BTW, you can take it to a Target store in person for returns though I’m presuming you ask Target.com for a refund on shipping.

So, thanks for the pics “LCC-20” and “Mara M.”

went to Target today to look for new storyteller 3 packs. They only had the old ones, so I asked a clerk if they had more in the stockroom. she checked her handheld scanner and said no, these were discontinued and what they had out was all that was left. Don’t the new ones have the same DPCI???? Discontinued???

  • Nascarfan says:

I have sent target.com about 11 emails and in the process of being forwarded to their Fullfillment center in Massilion Ohio AND Corporate in which I amde the same comments and even added:

UPC codes were invented in the early 1980’s for a reason. Specific stock ordering and specific item definition.

Why change that? Is Target.com trying to re invent the Edsel?

At what part does someone in your Massilion, Ohio Fullfillment Center open a Case Assortment from Mattel, and NOT NOTICE that there are DIFFERENT items, 2 packs, 3 packs, FROM Mattel?

    (red flag for quality control?)

At what part does someone building the webpage that takes pictures of ONE ITEM, in this case the red truck of Bubba… and have a description of 3 items ???
    (red flag for quality control?)

At what part does someone building the webpage that takes pictures of THREE ITEMS, in this case the showstoppers girls… and have a description of 3 items and SEND 2 item packs???
    (red flag for quality control?)

At what part does someone who speaks VERY BAD english with thick India accents IN India or Jamacia with huge Jamacian accents or the Phillipines, or Malaysia, can help me out???
    (red flags for quality control?)

    Their response:

Dear nascarnbroncosfans, I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve gone through. We have very high expectations for anyone representing Target Corporation. In choosing vendor partners, we pick those that can provide the highest quality services and products to our guests at a cost that allows us to remain competitive. I’m really sorry that your experience wasn’t in line with our expectations, and I’ll pass on your concerns to the supervisory team that can address the issue. I request you to once again give us a call at (800) 591-3869? We’d like to help you out.

I have sent this URL of this forum to note we are bashing them for LACK OF Quality Control and demanded to have someone of greater worth contact me in the hopes of addressing this issue of UPC and Quality Control.

    • Nascarfan says:

      My Email to them:

When I started this issue with your sending the wrong item, something completley different from what was advertised on your wesite, I stated that I am NOT the only person who had recieved the incorrect item.

Here is the Forum of which Target.com is being raked over the coals for its lack of quality control and several mistakes.

Its up to Target.com CORPORATE and Massilion, Ohio Fullfillment Centers to make this right.

Here is where we are beating Target.com up http://www.takefiveaday.com/2009/12/06/mattel-disney-pixar-diecast-cars-target-lump-all-the-dpcis-lumpy-shipping/

      Target.com, make this right.

Kmart.com had several issues and they even had their Vice President of Toys come online and make a few posts and make this right.

Maybe Target.com should get the VP of toys off the company jet and take notice.

I just got off the phone with “Kathy” at Target Corporate.

I have documented the several errors with her on the Showstoppers items, the Wedding Day Ramone, Tractor, Brand New Mater 3 pcs set error, and the Team Leakless-Octain Gain Error.

        He comments are:

“Target.com is run as of right now by Amazon.com and we are in the process of taking it back over”

“I have documented these errors and will forward the information you gave me about takefiveaday.com and its information about huge target.com mistakes and the incorrect items shipped out-recieved.”

        • Nascarfan says:

I have recieved a complete and FULL refund….

          okay great,…

“but that still deosnt remove the fact that its wrong items being sent and cannot order the correct items”

          Their response:

thanks and have a better day

          • iamspeed says:

            That’s the standard corporate response:

“Thanks for calling, and have a nice day!” 🙂

          • iamspeed says:

As the saying goes, “you’ll catch more flies with honey”.

I’ve dealt with a lot of people in positions where they CAN have some input into making changes or improvements within a company, and one thing you don’t want to do is put them on the defensive from the minute you open communications with them.

Also, I don’t know that throwing around the TakeFiveADay info is really going to benefit anyone. Trying to muscle someone into helping you is not the way to go, and I’m not sure that you’re speaking for everyone when you use this site as that muscle.

Target has really become our primary CARS retailer, like it or not. Walmart has lost the battle, TRU really doesn’t seem to care.

Let’s face it, we ARE talking about toys, not exactly a life-threatening error on the part of Target. There’s more to life than CARS.

  • iamspeed says:

Story Tellers book. Bubba was a bully who liked to pick on everyone smaller than him, especially Mater.

  • iamspeed says:

    Stands for Department/Class/Item(DPCI)

For instance, 087-07-0116 Final Lap Singles

Department(087) and Class(07) are the same across the CARS line, just the 0116 part of it distinguishes it as the Final Lap Singles as a whole…..no specific UPC can be tracked using their system, only the group.

    Met, anything to add?

(MET: Nice, can you hack a way to direct all 087-07 to one Target, then one T5er can just go and buy 10,000 to redistribute? 🙂 ).

    • iamspeed says:

MET, just using what I’ve learned at the Metroxing Institute for Higher CARS Learing, located in Willthesearchforallofthecarseverend, USA!!!

I believe all classes are FULL until the Fall semester, 2011, isn’t that correct? 🙂

(MET: We don’t really take attendance or collect tuition 🙂 … but we win the track meet from front door to toy section EVERYTIME. We’re #1, We’re #1, We’re #1!)

    • Jinzo says:

Some new DPCI popped out… I tried 087-07-1920 It said Collector’s Guide Mcqueen and was listed at $8.99. Could this be the 2010 Collector’s Guide Mcqueen?

      (MET: Sounds like it! Nice).

  • Mr. T says:

YAY! The Apple Hauler and Apple car are finally DONE!! Check out the pics on my flickr page – not exactly Arnoldo (que bellisimo!) but a WELCOME addition to the collection …also updated my collection pics too – 🙂

No new pictures of the new wing yet (Darn permits!!) 🙁

  • iamspeed says:

Found 3 Sidewall Shine haulers at Target today, so it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!!!!!! 🙂

  • Mara says:

Better pics than mine, but yeah the sticker they slap on the package says Showstoppers 3pk & clearly there are only 2 in this pack. But I was able to return it to Target, didn’t ask about refund on shipping though, perhaps I should try.

  • por356 says:

Actually, the situation is even a little worse at the web site. They have been showing a picture of Bubba for weeks to illustrate a product they call “Cars Multipack Storytellers Assortment – Wedding Day Ramone, Tractor and Brand New Mater”. It seems Flo took a drive somewhere!

  • BMW says:

Getting new cars at Target is becoming a real chore. Today the store had one Skip R. on the pegs with 25 lenticulars. Scanner said stockroom. Went to electronics, the older man was not helpful, he said scan shows 25 on the pegs. “No, they are all lenticulars, a different DCPI.” Well, he said “show me”, so I did. Still no help, as he refused to go to the stockroom and look, by saying “how do I know what is in the case?” I told him “its different see the cardback it says “Final Lap” ” not “Look”. his reply: “Well, we are full of customers today and can’t go in the stockroom to look”, (forgetting that I saw him just standing around not helping anyone a few minutes before.) I replied, “Ok, you are a store, and you don’t have new stock out, just the same stuff that has been on the pegs for weeks, so I guess I will cross your store off my list for shopping.” We already have all the ones you have out.”

He looked semi apologetic when I said that. “Maybe guest services will help me”, and he looked relieved to be rid of me. Long story, but guest services did help, the lady, called on the radio, kept calling til she found someone to answer, then asked the person to pull a new case with the correct DCPI from the stockroom, by using the DCPI code from the lone Skip I brought her. Funny thing is that she also kept saying we have 25 on the floor aisle xxx. Some how maybe the lenticulars and Final Laps got coded wrong in their system?

I waited at the stockroom door, and sure enough he brought out the only case they had, and it was the new case with 4 Antonios and 4 Dexters, along with the usual suspects, FHH, McQueen, etc.

Its almost as bad as a trip to the dentist, like pulling teeth to get anything new at Target.
Clue: Target you are a store, not a museum, you are supposed to sell stuff, that is how to make money, by having merchandise on the floor, not in the stockroom.

<(MET: I think that is part of the problem is that they look similiar so there’s some lapse there but definitely call and ask around if you get an answer from one clerk you are not happy with … if they give you a lazy answer, point out not only is the DPCI different but it’s a different line by description also (CARS ASSORTMENT WITH EYES versus CARS CLASSIC ASSORTMENT).

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Sometimes when the stuff arrives from certain retailers, it looks like the gorilla from the Samsonite suitcase commercial packed it. If it’s not marketed in it’s own original shipping container I generally ignore it. Nothing like giving a gift that looks like it has been stomped on.

  • Daniel says:

Perhaps if you ordered Show Stoppers (instead of Toppers), you would have received the correct item?

  • Kevin W says:

Pictures WITHOUT the “Take5aDay” watermark are starting to look funny to me.

  • AidensMom624 says:

Target doesn’t use the UPC on the package – they make their own “DPCI” number and use that.

  • BMW says:

The case that was opened for me at Target had those nice cardboard inserts. Kept the cards nice and straight. Too bad Target.com ships in shrink wrap
