Disney Pixar CARS: Boom Studio CARS Comic #3 …

As you know, the CARS Comic Books are doing great – thanks to a great story by Alan Porter and fun illustrations by Allen Gladfelter (whom we all got to meet at the TakeFive SDCC panel … yes, working on editing the video – have to find my power cord to the camcorder).

Part III of the CARS: The Rookie is out – it’s the continuation of the back story of how “Bulldozer” McQueen became “Lightning McQueen.”

Covers

Here are the two cover available for issue #3.

I won’t spoil it by giving away any details of the storyline but in case you were wondering what Lightning McQueen’s Crew Chief looked like before he quit 🙂

Pit Crew

Another great issue!

  • Hi folks –

Thanks for the great feedback on the CARS comics – and yes I have a blast writing them.

Here’s the status of the series so far.

The books come out monthly and are branded as separate four-issue story arcs.

Story Arc #1 – The Rookie – is now out and all four issues have been published and should be available in your local comic book store and selected book stores such as Barnes & Noble and Borders.

Issue #1 did sell out but there is now a second print cover.
Each issue has two different covers, plus there are occasional special variant covers.

At San Diego we had a limited edition hardcover (with a special cover and individually numbered and signed) that collected issues #1-4

There is a softcover collection of the first 4 issues scheduled and is due to go on sale at bookstores the first week of October. – Just in time for your holiday shopping.

Story Arc #2 – Radiator Springs – will start shipping in August (Cars usually ships the fourth Wednesday of each month) and breaks down (oops perhaps that’s the wrong word to use) like this:
#1 – Flo and Ramone (plus a little bit on Sally) – based on and expands the “Motorama Girls” story from the DVD extras.
#2 – Sarge and Fillmore – the story of how this odd couple became such good friends.
#3 – Guido and Luigi – the story of their journey from Italy to Radiator Springs (also includes a three page Mater Tall Tale style story).
#4 – Mater and Sheriff – a look back at Mater’s days as a “youthful prankster.”

Story Arc #3 has just been approved and is tentatively titled “Radiator Springs Rally” and brings the racing folks to Radiator Springs for a charity race.

I also have another two story arcs waiting for approval from the fine folks at Pixar – so keep your fingers crossed.

As for the covers – I keep a gallery of all the different CARS covers on my Facebook page – you can see it at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=182309&id=1037196177&l=5f33f779d3

I add new covers as and when they are released.

Happy collecting and thanks for reading.

      Alan,

Thank You. Thanks for your great work, thanks for reading this blog and thanks very much for the information which is awesome. These are wonderful. I read them to my son (3 1/2) at night before he goes to bed. We both love them and I think it helps keep my son a little more interested in the diecast line. The stories help keep his imagination of the Cars world alive and fresh.

      Alan,

The comics are great. We were even able to pick up a hardcopy at Comic Con on preview night. Thanks for signing it!! 😀 We enjoy reading it and looking at it.

We enjoy it. And the Incredibles comic is wonderful too. THANKS!

      Thanks

I will purchasing these now that I know where to buy them. Thanks a ton.

  • Dpcnh says:

what is this about a hardcover book from sdcc is it the first 4 comics in 1 book

  • Dpcnh says:

i think here at the comic store we can still get issue 1 through 4 both a and b and set 2 issue 1 flo and romane r on 2 diffrent covers and the 2 issue is sarge on 1 and fillmore is on 2 one

    • Monica says:

According to Boom, issue 1 is sold out and reprinted now, so if you can still get the original release Issue 1 a and/or b, snatch them up!

Alan Porter was such a nice fellow and you could really tell that he loves Cars as much as we do and thoroughly enjoys wirting these.

    • Dunroamin says:

Whoa whoa whoa…are you telling me you have issues 1 and 2, both covers for “radiator Springs”…but the web site says not yet released” 🙁 I want them soooo bad !

(MET: Current series is called CARS: The Rookie with #4 just out … CARS: Radiator Springs is coming next …).

  • Dunroamin says:

    I ordered #3 A and B and #4 A and B on the 22nd of July…still haven’t shipped…my last order for # 1 and #2 took like 10 days to process…kind of annoying…
Anyone know how to get me hands on the foil cover from SDCC…I got the book for my son…didn’t know there was a cover (book is in the mail)
    thanks
    J

I have the first four issues and the hardcover book from SDCC. The Boom Studios website shows that issues 1-4 will be rereleased in a softcover book for $9.99. It doesn’t say when this will happen, but I would guess fairly soon. This may be easier than hunting down the first four individual issues. They are very popular here. They don’t last on shelves for long. My son loves them and can’t wait for the next four which are about radiator springs.

  • Dpcnh says:

they r very interesting to read cant wait for the new series telling the stories of flo and ramone and issue 2 tells the tale of why sarge and filmore r such good friends

  • Dpcnh says:

comic store has them any place that sells majic the gathering or comics should have them

  • NicoleH says:

I found 1 at WM but have no idea which one or where it even is! I gave it to my son and haven’t seen it since.

  • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

wow we havent bought any of these either!, not sure really where to find them? BUT we may be buying them now!!! if we can find them of course LOL

  • John in Missouri says:

Aroldo, please make that crew chief!! 🙂

  • jestrjef says:

Well, I have not bought any of these yet . . . but I am thinking it is a MUST now! They look really cool! I think my kids will love them!

  • Met,
If you need photos of any of the other variant covers, issue #4 covers, or the #1 Foil Cover let me know because I bought all of them at SDCC.

(MET: I think Alan gave me the cover shots of #4 but if can scan in the foil cover, that be great – thanks).

    • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

is the limited edition from sdcc the one with the hard cover is that the one you had that you were calling the book? #24, #25?? just out of curiosity lol trying to figure this out 😀

      (MET: Regular release).

  • Dpcnh says:
