Just wanted to post a HUGE thank you to Jake, Kevin, and Lyndsee for all of their hard work! I’m a local San Diegan and was moving all weekend long so I couldn’t make it to Comicon this year. They were so helpful in getting my two Maters — one for me and one for my son. I was able to drive to their hotel to meet them all and they were just the nicest people. It was great fun meeting them and hearing their stories about the event. Ooh, and thanks for the popcorn, Mattel bag, and fast pass! You guys are great people. It was obvious when standing in their hotel room and hearing all of their stories that they went to great lengths to help everybody that couldn’t make the show. Thanks so much to the three of you and your efforts. I can’t wait to see the look on my son’s face when he opens his present! You have spread joy!! See you next year!!

  • Monica says:

Poor FPG! I don’t know how I missed her at the panel! Although I did have to skedaddle at the end since my boys were huuuuungry.

  • PirateDad says:

Okay, so this is my theory…. no one saw FPG (not FOG) until the Panel on Sunday, even though we KNOW she was in San Diego…she has also not posted ANYTHING about SDCC at all…and now no one has heard from Met since the panel…. what are the chances they are shacked up together somewhere rolling around with Dalmatian Mia and Tia???

  • acuransx says:

    Ladies&Gentlecars,

One thing that you have to keep in mind as these Haulers were a long time coming. They were a hard sell for the price point from the get go.

We were tasked to make them all open up as different as they could in order to make each series as compelling/as different as possible. That’s why we ended up where we did. All had to open up differently.

We must have done something right as these are selling and word on the street is that Gil is buy it now on Fleabay for $125.00…..that’s crazy.

Everybody wants to be a Designer πŸ™‚ Whatever.

    • traver says:

i want to be a designer, but i would have to have an artistic cell in my body, that is not the case. I will stick to my talent!!

    • MiaSenorita says:

πŸ˜€ Well I think it would be kind of cool if they all opened up differently.. but seemed to me like it was random. I didn’t realize there was a plan ! I think I like Mack and Gil the best as far as the way they open.

Without knowing you guys intended to keep the haulers fresh with new devices.. it just kind of seemed like random design changes. Question is, are there more trailer styles coming out??? Now I am intrigued!!

You must know by now that we opinionated consumers always know what’s best πŸ˜‰ Only kidding!! You guys do an awesome job, I was just saying that my favorite type of trailer is Mack’s because it is easiest for my son to play with. And I have bought 2 of every hauler now, so its not that I don’t like them… just have my favorites πŸ˜€

  • iamspeed says:

    I’ve got to say this:

Hey Met, are you o.k., buddy?

We’re all awaiting your next big post, oh great and powerful OZ(Met)!!!!

(Picture Met hiding behind a giant curtain, then a little dog pulls the curtain open, revealing Met……..pulling the strings of a huge puppet of Matty!)

  • Jonny2Scarves says:

    What about now…

  • iamspeed says:

Anybody interested in a Gil Hauler that must be made of solid gold?

    From the land down under:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Disney-Pixar-Cars-Gil-Hauler_W0QQitemZ400064170526QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5d25aeca1e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Yes, that IS a three digit Buy It Now price.

I think I’ll wait for the $12.99 version when Target gets them in, how about you guys?

    • MiaSenorita says:

      Whoa… no thanks, I’ll wait too πŸ™‚

But I do like the way his trailer opens!

      • iamspeed says:

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the way the race team haulers open, except for MACK.

The movie focused so much on little details to make everything look real, then the toy versions of the haulers look more like Transformers. Keep it simple would have been a better motto.

Gil IS a good example as well of a “realistic” design.

        • MiaSenorita says:

πŸ™‚ I know what you are saying, but I can’t help myself: I haven’t seen too many trailers with “gull-wing” doors……. realistic?? Maybe not too much πŸ˜€

          • John in Missouri says:

The Haulers are more like concession stands or souvenir stands where the sides pop open and sellers sell their wares.

And don’t get me started on the scale / size of these things!!

            • MiaSenorita says:

Yeah, I think they were going for “playability” (is that a word?), but I think my son would have more fun throwing a car into a more traditional trailer, where the back door drops down into a ramp like in the movie. My kid doesn’t want to see what it looks like inside the trailer.. he just wants to put them in the trailer! Getting cars into the dinoco and HTB hauler is kind of difficult, and only the race cars fit because of all the junk inside.

I think simple would have been better.. but that’s just me!

              • iamspeed says:

That’s exactly my point with MACK…his rear door opens, and Lightning can slide right in on the extending ramp.

I understand that they’re shooting for “playability” with they opening up as they do, no doubt about that being the goal.

They make all of the semi cabs virtually identical, why not make all of the trailers like Lightning’s?

                • MiaSenorita says:

I agree completely with you! Gil will be the 4th version of a trailer…. seems complicated to me. Should have stuck with Mack’s design πŸ™‚

            • iamspeed says:

They weren’t too far off on the cab portion, but why the trailers had to be made so much wider…….only to allow them to make them more fun for the kids, I guess.

Oh well, this is the hand we’ve been dealt, huh?

            • John,
Martin talked about the non-scale of the haulers during the Disney panel on Sunday. Everyone has to remember this is not a “Collector” line, it is geared toward children first. And children like to play with their toys. If they can’t play, they don’t like. That’s why a lot of children showed such lack on interest in the Impound chase cars.

              • iamspeed says:

Children? What have kids got to do with CARS vehicles? Gosh, I never even thought about kids actually PLAYING with these little works of artistic genius! They really do play with them? I guess the rumors are true. Go figure……….

One note: Target DOES consider this a “collector” line, just read their little notices on the CARS pegs, Hot Wheels pegs, Star Wars, etc. Target is the worst at stocking these and the worst at the worst in terms of knowledge of the product…they’re clueless……THEN they pull off these “exclusive” deals with Mattel to make it even worse.

  • rdivizio says:

So do we have a list yet of the Kmart 3 Cars.
I guess we know about Rev-N-Go already, what else?

Also, since I still need Sidewall Shine and Faux Wheel Drive, I was
wondering, after those mail in promo’s are over, are there really none left
in the Holy Warehouse of Mattel.
Reason is the kids and I started late in collecting these late and missed those Promo’s and it looks like Ebay is my only way.
I recently picked up N2O Cola so I’m happy about that.

    Rich

I have to say, I’m sitting here eagerly awaiting Met’s first major post since SDCC, and it feels a lot like waiting to see the white smoke when a new Pope is elected.

    • iamspeed says:

That’s Rev-N-Go from the upcoming October Kmart CARS Day 3 releases. Same Hong Kong location as everything else that pops up long before it’s legal release to the world.

    • John in Missouri says:

I’m glad to see Mattel security is so tight in the Far East.

      • Mia, Tia and NJM says:

Selling stolen stuff on eBay should be illegal. Wonder why Mattel doesn’t get them to ban these people?

        • Daniel says:

For sure they know about it. How difficult would it be for someone from Mattel to search eBay for unreleased items, and to track the plant from which it came from???

It may be an intentional way of giving us collectors a sneak peak at what’s coming.

          • John in Missouri says:

            I’ve thought about that before.

OR, that’s all they can think of to match Take5’s hold on the collectors market!

          • L8rM8r says:

I think something like that happened when they released the final Harry Potter book. Some leaked out and they were on e-bay and I am pretty sure the auctions got pulled.

    • Jinzo says:

He has lots of them… So far I can see It’s N2O Cola, Vinyl Toupee, Re-Volting, Rev-N-Go, & Trunk Fresh. My guess Chick with Piston Cup will be the chase for the case. Hopefully Sidewall Shine comes out in Kmart Cars III because that one is impossible to get if you don’t have a fortune. Wonder what else will they have on the case…

  • rumbler74 says:

I would like to take this opportunity to personally give a “to infinity and beyond” thanks to both Jake/Slicepie from Pit Stop Toy Shop.com and Kevin / Nascarnbroncosfans for all of their Herculian efforts at SDCC 2009. I know they had an extremely tall task on their hands coming in with so many personal orders from many Tfad members, and a lot of items that they needed for themselves as well. They spent over 1,000 dls of their own money to even get there folks, so be kind to them when you get your items by sending them a little extra if you can. I asked for their help in obtaining other items for myself (over 50 items, over $1000 dls)that would severely hinder their ability to get their own items as they would have to make separate lines for my items, holding them back in times ranging from 2 to 4 hours! Never thought they would get any of my requested items as of course they have to give priority to their personal items and CARS related items for Tfad members. It was all well understood but worth the try in asking. Knowing these guys, I knew they would at least try. Well let me tell you all, not only did they try, they did, they were there, literally, till they got kicked out of the convention trying to get my items. Till the last day, till the last second… and then some…and they DID get preety much EVERTHING that I requested. WOW!!!SIMPLY AMAZING!!! I still cannot believe it. “Punch me, Guido! Punch me in the face! This is the most glorious day of my life!” Thank you guys so very much!!!

    • Nascarfan says:

      Lets not forget:

Tricia and her husband Craig. went thru the lines 5 or 6 more times than they were going to just to help out.

Chuki-Mama and her brother did the same thing also

these people came back day after day and asked what can we do to help and DID

  • Hello all from San Diego — yes, yes, I know. We (Lyndsee AKA Flik’s Friend and me) are still here, and still packing orders. Kevin left a little while ago with the orders we did not have enough boxes to pack up here and he will be mailing them out from Utah. For those of you lucky enough to have your orders packed and shipped from CA, you should have or will soon be receiving emails with tracking info.

So, for those who have been emailing about SDCC items, I apologize for not getting back to you yet and now you know the reasons why.

    • BMW says:

Excellent news Jake! Thanks to you and Lyndsee, Kevin and all the other helpers. Hope you had time to enjoy the Con too. Can’t wait to hear all the news about what you guys heard, smelled, saw, tasted, touched, etc.

      • We did have a lot of help —

Tricia and Chuki-Mama both came back for an extra day that they were not planning on just to help us get everything for all of you.

Monica, you and your family are simply the best!!!!

If any of you see Nick on the site, not sure what his username is/will be, but he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Plus, he brought us a homemade Take5ADay cake for the BBQ!

Special thanks to Sharon and Kathylynn for hooking us up with some extra line passes, and all it took was a couple of Starbucks coffees.

Thanks also to Mark Rodriguez of Mattel — he selflessly watched our bags while we re-entered the Mattel line over and over and over again.

Plus there were so many other Mattel people who not only helped, but tolerated us as well. I know Kevin has a list of them so I am sure he will be posting it once he gets back to Utah.

Oh, and yes, we did go Cars hunting while here in SD. Lyndsee scored Sven Hummer and Trunk Fresh Hauler, Kevin and I both scored the one-piece Lenticular Lightning McQueen variant, and I also snagged a Retread Launcher.

We saw the cast of Fringe, Lou Ferigno (The Incredible Hulk), The Honky Tonk Man, John Cryer, and some others I can’t even think of right now.

All in all, it was tough work but we all had fun.

        • rumbler74 says:

All Superheroes need trusty Sidekicks. Kudos to Tricia and Chuki-Mama as well. Thanks a lot for helping these guys out. I am one of many that benefited from you help. THANK YOU!!!

We also need to thank Roman from “Roamin’ with Roman”…. as he helped us get Mater and the girls to the post office, and then get our butts to the airport before we missed another flight!!

    • Mara says:

Does that mean if we haven’t received an email by now that Kevin is sending it from Utah? Thanks again for everything!

  • Terri says:

Just got home from San Diego. The panel on Sunday was great. I got to meet Met and Martin on Wednesday and Kevin on Sunday. Awesome individuals is all I can say. Thanks also to Kevin for making the Take 5 badges and to Martin for signing them.

The lines at the mattel booth were horrible but this time I did get my Mater sets. It was not easy though. The line closed 15 minutes after the hall opened. I had to find someone at the end of the line who was not already buying Mater for themselves and ask them to buy mine. In return I paid for an item they were purchasing. It cost me a little extra but it was worth it. On Sunday I was able to get a couple more. I did buy a few extras in case there were people who were not able to get on Kevin and Jake’s list. Once the dust settles if there are still people who need a set they can email me. I think I have 7 extra sets. Give Jake and Kevin the business first. They worked really hard for everyone.

  • Uncle Skippy says:

Hasbro Toy Shop has posted many of their SDCC exclusives for those needing non-Cars exclusives.

    Retailmenot.com has Hasbrotoyshop.com coupons to save 10%

Just scored a Soundwave for the nephews “other” collection for $44.99!!!

Transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars, Pony, etc… were available as of 8:30am est.

Wondering why Hasbro can make this so easy to obtain Convention Exclusives, yet Matty seems to drop the ball? Convention ends Sunday, webpage is up on Monday! Matty??? Still showing SDCC McQueen as sold out?!?!? A year later?!?!? Have never been to SDCC (something I want to correct) yet I have always been able to get Hasbro Exclusives with out any hassle or markup! Amazing.

  • Bill in Simi Valley, CA says:

C’mon guys! Where are you? I thought we were all meeting at the SDCC! South Dakota Corn Convention… What sort of prank is this? Now I’m stuck with a four day pass to what?!? I’m in hillbilly hell!

    • Samuel says:

That sounds funny but actually you have no idea how right you are! There is a city 60 miles west of me (Mitchell, South Dakota) that has a Corn Palace has it’s main attraction!

      • Bill in Simi Valley, CA says:

Thanks Samuel!! I thought I was going crazy…

Met sent me the link to book the travel, hotel and event pass! He said they’d meet me out front… He even promised a signed, limited edition Red Ransburg CornMater with Henhouse Mia and Tia if I was the first to line up at the convention center the night before…

I’m telling you, there’s been some sort of mistake. The Priceline Negotiator has gone too far! Kirk!!!!

  • AJ/Senor Ruiz says:

    TFADs,
You have to give mad thanks to the whole TFAD gang on what they endured at SDCC this weekend (slicepie/Nascar/Monica/fliks friend). I was fortunate enough to go and meet them face to face and witnessed first hand the craziness that is SDCC. To get all the Mater exclusives they did for everyone, is a feat in itself. It was awesome meeting Martin and a special thanks to him for putting all the extra time into this. That says a lot of him. Of course, thanks to Met for setting up the panel and doing what he does best…convincing us we will never stop spending money on cars. Dont ask what he looks like, cuz I’ve been sworn to secrecy…see you at SDCC 2010.

    • martian410 says:

I too attended the comic-con on Saturday and witnessed the craziness at the convention. I did see Slicepie and Nascar, very cool guys – please thank them and others for the sacrifices they went through to get Mater sets for everyone, and hauling those red mattel bags in that crowd… Met Martin and had my Mater set signed for my 5 year old son. Very nice guy. Go TFADers!!

    • racerguy says:

I was fortunate enough to go, but unfortunately didn’t get to meet very many TFADers. I enjoyed meeting Martin and Kevin, though. To the point: Absolutely right on. These people worked harder than most anyone can imagine to get some toy cars for their friends! Pretty neat people if you ask me!

I have three kids and unfortunately my second child, a girl, is mentally and physically handicapped. Because of this, i was able to get to the front of the line and order my matter boxes. But believe me, i would trade that pass to the front for my child to be healthy. To get to my point, i got to meet Martin, and he bent over backwards for me and my kids. one of the nicest guys i have ever met. Signed my matter boxes! Also met another TF BLOGGER, if you remember me send me an email.( went by the name carealer or toy dealer i forgot.) anyways had a blast! I too am looking forward to going on a “virtual vacation”. Get those pictures and stories up! (As my Facebook friends will know my wife and her camera (and the pictures she posts) have a tendency to become “virtual vacation” destinations.)

  • SDCC UPDATE – RESCUE SQUAD MATER PACK EXCLUSIVES

Photos of Friday and Saturday will be up later today. We have been so jam packed with stuff to do that I actually fell asleep sitting up with the lap top in front of me last night, er, well, at about 2:00 this morning.

We have tons of photos and Martin was an absolute trooper yesterday signing the packs for everyone who donated to Cars Cares. We did have a couple of our Mater packs “walk away” while we were doing it, but we made sure that everyone got signed – about 5 hours from start to finish.

Now, Pit Stop Toy Shop has several Rescue Squad Mater Packs available as well as Buzz Lightyear figures, Transformers Soundwave, Exclusive Optimus Prime and Wolverine Mighty Muggs, plus more.

Anyone interested please email me at service@PitStopToyShop.com with your interests and I will quote you some pricing.

Thanks everyone, and more to come later….

I’d like to personally thank you, Kevin, and the other TF’ers that helped to get all of these Mater sets for everyone here. Sounds like an amazing amount of time, work, and dedication for all of us!

And a special thank you to Jake for coming up with the idea of the autographs to raise money for Cars Cares, and to Martin for signing all those boxes… THANK YOU!!!

Still trying to figure out how you’re gonna do the whole present the huge 6 foot wide check for Cars Cares… do they make envelopes that big???

One of us was going down the list on the CC auto list and another handing them to Martin and staging them for dryiing, then reboxing for the trip back to the motel.

I am not the same Kevin with CCP but I jumped in and got it done

Unfortunately some lowlifes walked off with 3 that were signed.

I am working one getting them redone.
