Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: The “Final Lap” Nearly Final Target Classics Card Design

Not quite FINAL FINAL yet …

target-card-front

Apparently the CAR on the blister will actually face to our right or in the direction of the name-plate arrow.

Also not final because of course, this is Radiator Springs McQueen with wrong nameplate.

And another little tidbit … under the T5 watermark above is the ONLY AT TARGET sticker but apparently will NOT make it to the final design … which might be good news down the line if we form a large circle and chant good thoughts … because it might mean we may-might-possibly-could eventually find these at other stores or even online … NOT right away when these come out but as this is the design for 2009 to 2010 – THE FINAL LAP … so who knows what might happen in late 2009 or in 2010.

By NOT putting the ONLY AT TARGET or any indication it’s ONLY AT TARGET means if things change, these can be shipped everywhere … you know, on the off chance the lenticulars don’t make it 🙂

And, by late 2010, we will be holding the CARS 2 launch design cards.

And yes, gold & silver foil on the wreath …

Great looking card, very classy …

How many more CARS coming in the classics “non-lenticular” MAINLINE SINGLES lineup? At least 40 …

Some are listed on the cardback with a new admonishment and or command to ‘Collect These & MORE.”

cars-coming

No real surprises (maybe One-Eyed Mater – Sheriff asks Mater to keep AN EYE on the crazy hot rodder). but still nice to see them on an actual list.

I also thought Jay Limo was in the “megasized” lineup since Mattel had to pay the dude extra to license but that might be part of the “Collect These & More” description which would encompass 3-packs, megasize, etc, etc … maybe they should have just stuck to ‘Collect Them All.’

(And the count of 40 is for the ENTIRE run of the WOC: Final Lap Cards so that’s over about a 15-month period).

So, don’t give up on us! You can do it! You can stay the course, you can see us through.

This offer not available in countries not named United States of America.

Don’t hate me, I’m just the messenger, sorry!

singles-chartHope that’s clearer …

When can you start looking for the Target only “classics” line?

Looking like 8/15/2009 and the Fall reset … maybe Movie Moments will also return to Target (exclusives) plus Mater Tall Tales – Rescue Squad Mater CARS should be part of the Fall toy reset.

There are a few of the final laps and a few other series at http://carcollector.ecrater.com/.

Wrote them to see when others will come but will probably not hear anything until at least tomorrow (since it’s 1 AM here).

  • stephen farrar says:

are there going to be chase cars in this line or not?

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

I’m reading forty new castings plus all the castings you may have missed the first time around as the unsold inventory hanging out in Asia will be Target exclusives. Be prepared for another round of red McQueen’s and one new casting per box. It will also be interesting to see if the lenticular McQueens of the future will have corrected spoilers. Or will somebody just slap some googly eyes on existing inventory.

Who needs to pay the mortgage.

    • Flik'sFriend says:

or even eat for that matter!!!

“Sorry kids, your inheritance is hanging on the wall in the spare room!”

(MET: Kids are spoiled today anyway … when I had to write a report on Brazil, I had to walk 10 miles in the snow to read a book written in 1957 on Brazil – today, they just text some supermodel … and hey, get off my lawn! 🙂 )

  • Flik'sFriend says:

Whoa!!!! Now I really am going to need a 2nd and 3rd job!!!!! Who needs sleep???

  • Bombero1956 says:

Is that a Matty logo on the back?

(MET: Yep, “if it’s matty, it’s swell” tagline from 1968 or something like that).

  • acuransx says:

    LiamsMommy,

Wait till you see your avatar in diecast. “Momma come ‘n git your baby boy”. The Storytellers Girls friends are some serious die cast characters.

  • LiamsMom says:

That looks like a pretty interesting list of cars coming out!

  • LUCA says:

I LOVE NEW CARDS,I LOVE OLD CARDS,I LOVE EVERYTHING..
    TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!!!!!!!!!!

  • TwoLilTorqueyPistons says:

Oh No!!! Another cardback to collect! When the oh-so-plain ROR cardbacks came out I stopped collecting the repeated characters.
I LOVE the silver & gold foil. Elegant touch(Smart move Mattel!)
I too am concerned about Target keeping up with the demand. My local Targets have been backed up with Lightning McQueens & Ramones for so long that I can’t recall the last new single I found there. Let’s hope the Target reset “resets” the peg warmers on the clearance end cap!

  • Monica says:

    Love the new cards, woohoo!

  • Monica says:

Where is my Brian Antenna Ball dadgum it?

  • Mr. T says:

    18 to a case – 3 cases – GO……GO……….GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NicoleH says:

Target’s profits are going to triple as soon as that fall reset hits. Guess I need to start talking to my friend who does the resets at Target and get a date out of him. A date for the reset not a date, date!

  • Uncle Skip says:

I’m not overly concerned with the Final in “Final Lap” Series…

Star Wars has gone through sooooo many incarnations. Every new movie that came out pretty much retired the existing series in favor of the Episode 1, 2, 3, etc… Once a movie was out and the toys run through, Hasbro changed the card design and had greatest hits, legacy, collections, etc…

I think the Final Lap ends this particular race in favor of Cars 2 coming out… once Cars 2 has been saturated, perhaps Mattel will go back to the unfinished characters from Cars 1 and have a Cars 1/Cars 2 collection to keep expanding the series so we can “collect these and more” ad infintum…

Unless the squirrels get into the works.

    My 2 cents.

  • Roswell says:

how are they gunna make die-cast look wet?

who is donner, vern, skip and nick?

can anyone see a 3-pack with bug mouth LMQ, wet LMQ & Muddy LMQ?
    cus y’kno…everyone will want one!

  • Blake from MN says:

I am glad I open mine LOL

  • lou says:

    MET:

are we ever getting a non-lenticular regular Sarge back??

    (MET: Yep).

  • Mike H says:

So I guess I can expect to find these by 2011…once I wade through all the Tumbleweeds and Trunk Fresh pitties.

It’s getting to the point where once I get all the SOTS racers, I may put an ‘endcap’ on the whole collecting bit.

    • Luciano24 says:

I will collect till the day I die! LOL

    • EM says:

Mike, I am getting close to your thought also, but with an end in sight, I am going to finish out CARS 1. I won’t start Cars 2, though. If I say that enough times, it might come true.

      EM

      • Mike H says:

I’m also at this point thinking Cars 2 will not be added to my collection. I already said no to the ‘Cars Toons’ and ‘Haulers’ (with the exception of Jerry since he was a key player to the plot, and appeared in that big poster).

If I do go to the KMArt event, I’m only going to get the racers that I don’t have. Since it’ll probably be November before I see a Mood Springs on the shelf (and the lack of no cars can lead me to rather violent ‘mood springs’), KMart is the only place to find him.

I’m almost considering just throwing in the towel and seeing if I can purchase a counterfeit iCar.

  • Aaron and Jeanne from Joplin Missouri says:

wow im so excited!! these look great! cant wait!! 🙂

  • rpag says:

    sweet. Jay Limo!

  • TarheelBill says:

Judging by our area TGTs past record, we may never see these. Maybe they will do better now. Also, MET is there an end date on the TGT exclusive contract for these??? Or did they leave WM a loophole???

(MET: I do find it curious that the first card designs say ONLY AT TARGET but not anymore so, humm … while we know the first batch will be Target only … it might not be a permanent exclusive … for most toys, there are always loopholes 🙂 ).

    • BMW says:

Target vs Walmart the Cars toys Wars…who will win?
Walmart with lenticulars or Target with classics…

      • TarheelBill says:

I’m sure WM will have them both if they decide they want them. Mattel never says no to WM.

      • EM says:

I will only go to WM to look for non-lenticular Chases (if there are anymore). I don’t care for the lenticulars and am not going to buy them. Of course WM still has the haulers, mega-size, and 3-packs to keep me coming in.

    • CaptainChunk says:

This is my exact worry too. The Targets in my area show little to no interest in keeping up to date with Cars.

I’m also surprised to see that they didn’t go to the integrated J-Hook cards for these. Since Target is all about having empty space on the pegs.

  • Edge says:

Race Damaged Mood Springs… YEAH BABY!

  • PirateDad says:

Hey PitStopToyShop and CTC, are you able to get the Final Lap Cases?? Or are they really shutting everyone else out?

    • I received this email on 5/11/09:

Subject: CARS Character Cars Asst M1054

The subject item [CARS Character Cars Asst M1054] has been replaced by P7001 CARS Character Cars with Eyes Asst. Please adjust your records accordingly and place your orders online for the new assortment.

Based on that I would say the Final Lap are exclusive to Target.

  • L8rM8r says:

Nice. A race damaged Mood Springs that should be a cool looking one. Now if Target ever gets new stock we will see these in 2010. Also one eye Mater?

  • PirateDad says:

It’s the Final countdown…the Europe song is playing like a soundtrack in my head!!

What is Wet Lightning MQ? Will he shake like a Dog drying off??

(MET: Yep or sprayed with water – Red hosing him off … and of course, once they do that one, they can re-release him in Rescue Squad mater 🙂 ).

  • cac1959 says:

Very nice design and I like all the new upcoming Cars… just hope I can find them, as there’s no Target withing 45 miles.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

Wow final lap collection… that sounds so sad…

Looks like a nice assortment of Cars though…

    Still no Richard Kensington?

ToysRus picks up a lot of Target exclusives, so maybe there is a chance they will be reissued through them…

(MET: Richard Kensington definitely in the megasized line though I think Marco Axelbender is getting a release first? Coming before 2009 is over).

  • Gary UK says:

Well thats fantastic,i’m gonna need to rely on you lovely people on here to help me out more from now on then. Thats if you can get them given targets track record

  • BMW says:

Met, the words final on card are not appealing.

    • BMW says:

I guess this is Mattel’s way of saying this is the end of the cars characters for the first movie line.

(MET: Yep, mainline singles lineup #1 is ending but wait, there’s more, CARS 2 … (and Mater Tall Tales … and Storytellers and who knows what else?)
