Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: The Mainline Singles Price Rollback is Complete …

Walmart started the ball rolling on the singles, dropping them back to $2.97 …

297-price

Then of all places, Kmart went even better – $2.49 … but if you thought your WM selection was not so good – say hello to November 2008 …

And this morning, SlicePie reports in that Target’s are at $2.99 …

Yep, mine has made the switch – though no indication that it’s a “price cut.” just new tab signs.

So, that’s nice – as for the stocking situation – WM seems to have a new strategy. We will order a bunch of ONE CASE and then sit a while with a bear in the woods … so your store might see an influx of 10-11 CASES but then, don’t expect to see singles for a while … is this a good strategy? It is a strategy. So, you will either see 11 Chuki’s or 100 Lightning McQueen’s depending on when you show up at your local WM.

The other oddity is the timing – there is a price increase from Mattel is coming and it looks pretty big so stores might have to raise prices up to $1 to cover the same margins as before … but maybe for the Big Two, they are pushing back on the price increase by just buying up a bunch of stuff before the price increase? Or maybe they decided they don’t want to pay for a price increase so Mattel better price/re-price so they can still make a little when selling at $2.95 ish??

If that’s the case, something tells me Matty will back down faster than …. (I’ll let you make your own off-center off-color jokes here) 🙂

Yesterday my husband calls me and says were you looking for a blue car kind of like an old Mercury but very plain looking? Yes. Well, our Walmart has one and I hid it in case you wanted it.

so off I go to Walmart and found that the pegs were full of Case G, three cases to be exact. And new hauler cases, with Mack, Octane Gain, Chick Hicks haulers, and new Mega cases with RPM Semi right in front.

This was the best stocked I have seen Walmart in many months. Carefully car by car, since the pegs were so packed tight, I found three Chuki Chases, 2 Miltons (one gone) and 6 Andreas. ( Did not take them all!)

So many McQueens of every stripe and color, just wow with McQueens.

And has anyone seen Doc with a Ghoslight Ramone sticker? There were 4 of these.

“The Mainline Singles Price Rollback is Complete…” waste of time in the Pacific Northwest. Wal*mart is a store unto itself- its sucks big time. The biggest retail toy sales does not include Pixar cars, at least not in the rainy Pacific Northwest. The same goes for Target. TRU yielded an Impound Wingo today. One case F amongst six stores-wow!

  • L8rM8r says:

Yes the two WMs that I hit on a very regular basis follow this mantra. They have overflowing cases of case X then for almost weeks nothing.

Patience is definitely a virtue when you’re searching for the latest CARS releases!
Our nearest WM had the contents of 3 Case “G” boxes on the hooks this morning, after having virtually nothing new since the 1 Case F they had weeks ago. Someone beat me to the 3rd Milton, but I got my 2 Miltons, 2 Andreas and Chuki in her Japanese packaging! I ended up with several extra Andreas and Chukis, so maybe I’ll offer them on the trading page.
Odd thing: TRU had a fresh truckload….2 boxes of Case “F”…….actually seemed like “old news” after just finding Case G!

I think the Wal-mart by me is using the order-a-bunch-of-the-same-case strategy. They had literally no singles forever and now the Cars aisle is loaded with Chukis and Andreas. It’s an odd strategy. I am trying to learn to be patient and wait for the new cars, but it is HARD!

    • Mr.T says:

You know, a good friend of mine and fellow CARS hunter told me to be patient. I was scouring e-bay and paying the price for cars I had to have NOW!!! I am slowly learning and it is paying off!! I was ready to pay 15 for dustin but waited about 3 weeks and I am now finding him wherever I go –

…………be patient grasshopper. When you can take the sparkplug from my hand you will be ready

      • L8rM8r says:

Yep you nailed it Mr.T. E-bay is always going to be there and you know that so it is all about sitting back and playing the waiting game for a bit. I had the same issue and shudder to think how much I paid for some of the cars on E-bay but a little over a year into my collecting and I still have my moments, but am much more relaxed about waiting and knowing sooner or later they will turn up.

Went to Walmart this morning, who have not had new singles since Black Friday….no joke…..and they had 2 5 new cases of mega size with RPM trailer and elvis RV and 3 new cases of single G case. I was ecstatic and crapped my pants….clean up on aisle 4.

  • Monica says:

I was at Target this morning and it was nothing but McQueens everywhere, ugh.

  • Nicole H says:

I was just at Target this morning here in Des Moines and no price drop there. Or any new cases on the pegs either!

  • Ace Diamondrunner says:

That’s awesome!!! All the CARS we cannot find are now less expensive! 🙂

  • ricky says:

The price drop is good for me. I ran into 15 G cases among 5 Wal Marts and grabbed what I wanted this morning. The .50 cents per piece saved me a good chunk of money!

  • TowMater69 says:

These distribution issues are getting ridiculous and a collector in my position cannot be made to look ridiculous!
