Disney Pixar CARS Toons: Radiator Springs 500½ Short – Disappeared (UPDATE)

Yes, it’s very strange that the Radiator Springs 500½ Toon short has “disappeared.”

RS 500

The short is only available at the newly launched Disney Movies Anywhere site.

It’s in theory, very simple. Sign up to view your purchased Disney Movies “anywhere” on your computer or the free app for your iPhone, or iPad.

They also offered shorts, trailers and other featurettes in the section marked DISCOVER. About 2 months also when it launched, it was easy to find and view the Radiator Springs 500½ short and a few other Radiator Springs mini shorts.

But strangely, the short is mostly inaccessible. If you FAVORITED it on your ipad/iphone, it’s there under FAVORITES-VIDEO but if you did not FAVORITE, it is UNFINDABLE.

The SEARCH function only searches full length movies.

I tried to send the link as an email (as you “share” it) but it only creates a link to the home page of the site.

So, as of now, it’s unfindable.

I have sent them an email – perhaps if you send them an email also, they will realize something is amiss.

I also tried iTunes, it’s not available for purchase.

UPDATE

This might explain why the short is hidden – they are releasing a large scale sounds Off Road Lightning McQueen with a DVD.

“When you press down on the rear of the car, you’ll hear his feisty engine revving sounds! Activate more iconic sounds and phrases by pushing a button on the roof!”

“Includes a DVD of the new Disney•Pixar Cars Toon, RS500 1/2!”

There is an early one listed on Amazon for $120 – it’s safe to presume when everyone gets this shipped, the MSRP will not be $120.

Four of them appeared on the shelf at our TRU about a month ago. Sorry I didn’t pay more attention or snap a photo to send in. (it just didn’t interest us) I think they were all still sitting there this week?

The large scale LMQ with DVD was at my local TRU on Friday … I snagged one purely to get the DVD, but the toy is pretty nice too. Roughly $30 though … but I got a FHH as well, and for whatever reason, they gave me a $10 TRU giftcard … so I made out okay.

    • NeilJam says:

If you got the $10 gift card they should have also given you a voucher for a free Planes F&R movie ticket (unless that store ran out of them).

I just can’t believe no one downloaded the video and re-uploaded somewhere…

Maybe since mattel is doing a toy line for rs500, disney/pixar will make a series of shorts to release on dvd.

Kinda hard to drum up a kids interest in a toy line from just one 6 minute short.

Maybe something like Mater’s Tall Tales? It makes sense considering Cars 3 is still a couple of years from releasing.

    • Mack_me_Bucko says:

DVD distribution will be dead before too long anyway, streaming video is the current thing, so I don’t see any of the newer shorts being released in a DVD format.

(MET: Funny, your note reminded me of something – see UPDATE).

i got to watch it a couple of times probably someone released to early and we will see it again

So far there are the five off-road racers available in stores (LMQ, Shifty Sidewinder, Idle Threat, Sandy Dunes, Blue Grit), and the Ramone is available ‘Chinese back door’. There are rumors of a Mater in this series as well, but no sign of him yet. It seems for such a heavily supported diecast line (seven distinct Cars is pretty darn good?), not having the short available is bad marketing. For once Mattel succeeds, only to have Disney/Pixar fail!

  • SCAVENGER says:

Well I found it strange that the video disappeared, but then I also found it strange that the diecast had a street date of Aug 1st. So maybe the 2 oddities are related? I guess time will tell
