Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Diecast: Themes 2014 Singles Preview – Paris Tour

Continuing from 2013, CARS singles & multi-packs are grouped by theme – For 2014, the “Paris Tour” contains all new sculpts (well, some repeats but not just paints, with different accessories). It features characters appearing on the streets of Paris where Holley & Finn take Mater on a tour as they go hunting for clues.

Releases under this theme – “Paris Tour” include:

Louis LaRule (ignore Mater – this was when he was part of a 2-pack with Mater). Louis LaRule is now a single.

This sculpt returns as …

Artist with Brush

(while the artist also has a beret, he will have a paintbrush accessory but no flower on the hood). Both are of course Citroën 2CV’s. The 2CV is also “John” in the 2-pack with Nancy – previewed a few days ago.

John WM

While all three are 2CV’s, what’s interesting is that John seems to be a different mold than Artist with Brush & Louis LaRule who seem to have a metal beret incorporated in their roofs while “John,” (no beret) appears to have human lips as part of his metal unibody face while Artist & Louis have CARS faces/lips. Interesting.

The Paris Tour theme has two additional CARS that might be new molds – GEARTRUDE & LUDWIG.

Geatrude & Ludwig

I hope LUDWIG comes with his luggage on the roof.

While they appear together in the scene, they are singles – available separately.

These 4 are the only CARS diecast characters in the Paris theme and if the photos are correct, then we’ll get 3 new sculpts plus the only “repaint” not much of one as they’ll have different accessories and add-ons, so nice!

Also impressive … if you look closely at the painting created of the couple, Geartrude & Ludwig, you’ll notice the painting is oil-paint textured … just not a smooth CGI like the “real” CARS World Paris …

Typical crazy Pixar attention to detail. It’s literally on screen for a few seconds and perhaps, what – 10% of the imagery on that screen? But yet, they made sure you saw the textured surface of a oil painting – you’d expect nothing less, right?

I just received my Chinese “back door” versions of Ludwig and Geartrude (assuming that is their names). Very nice Cars, these are going to be popular. Geartrude even has a deeply inset ‘real’ headlight lens that is glossy.

Met, how would I submit photos to you directly?

  • BMW says:

Lugwig is what I saw for his name unless Mattel changed it.

(MET: That name makes sense but most printed lists are off-base somewhere … After 7 years, any printed list still calls Octane Gain “Octain.).

I think the artist is pushing the 2CV thing too far but they’re nice enough cars.

Real shame there’s no Louvre pigeon in this series – kind of a Cars/Planes crossover.

I wonder if we will see both versions of Ludwig and Geartrude? The “real-life” and the “ideal” in the painting.
Artist with brush’s lips weird me out a little.
Also, is it just me or do Geartrude’s headlights look like Celine style eyes?

THESE are the Cars I’ve been waiting for! Especially the, uh, ugly couple having their portrait done. The only thing that could make me happier would be a re-release of Celine Dephare. I’d like a dozen of her; I don’t think she received the notice she deserved.
