Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Micro Drifters Professor Z Variant

“John H.” supplied us with a nice visual checklist of every Micro Drifters CARS released. A few collecting along with John raised the issue of a Professor Z with monocle so here’s the resolution of that issue.

Apparently, Professor Z with a monocle was a production fix. So, the international versions were always correct.

It looks like the original/first shown off at the launch party was sans monocle. So, the first US release had him without a monocle.

Is this the only US card design with Professor Z? The new Micro Drifters logo without CARS in the logo (so it can used with PLANES Micro Drifters)? John H says you have to look closely as there are two versions of Professor Z – the only way to tell is to look very, very closely at the bubble.

Here’s both versions.

Keep in mind, this CAR is only about half-an-inch long.

Thanks for the follow-up and photos, “John H.” His complete visual checklist of CARS Micro Drifters Year 1 is here, missing only the photo of variant Professor Z with monocle.

If I recall correctly, Prof Z, Grem and Acer were one of the first character trios to be released on the old Micro Drifters card. Certainly, that’s the only one I’ve ever seen at stores with my own eyes. But I could swear that both the US version and the Canadian one were monocle-less. So how does that work? Canadians get an international card (because I can readily see it’s not the same as the one issued in the USA) but it’s also not usually translated to more than English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Does that make it an international card for the Americas? Because those four languages only are not going to adequately represent (or even come close) Europe, never mind Asia. Distinctions between the international (i.e. non-USA) cards confuses me for this reason.

(MET: Shocker! It’s not consistent. 🙂 But I think as long as French is included, it’s ok to release in Canada … and yea, there are different EU cards … some have Cyrillic AND Russian along with French, Spanish, Italian & German … while others (UK?) do not have Cyrillic/Russian …).
