Mattel Disney Pixar CARS 2 Diecast: The Bungle in the Jungle Miles Axelrod Variant

Miles Axelrod was also upgraded to a one-piece unibody last Autumn along with another production change – his top & window “solar panels” have been changed to a blue from light gray … but Miles variant release was essentially bungled for four reasons:

Miles pro

He was only shipped in the Q case which appeared only sporadically at a few retail stores, the case was pulled from warehouse availability for a while and then offered again in late 2012/early 2013 so while it has appeared at a few retailers again recently, it’s was not a chain wide re-order.

The Q case really contains just 1 Cartney Brakin’ outside of an upgraded Miles – the rest of the case are all re-releases so other than CHASE Cartney Brakin’, it’s not a very enticing case to re-sellers.

And of course, all this happened when CASE P was available (with 2 Super Chases + 7 other NEW CARS), it’s pretty easy to get lost in that shadow.

With the new Themes 2013 cards coming also, along with all the other reasons, it’s easy to see why Cartney Brakin’ is hard to find in the US and of course, the bungle in the jungle lost Miles Axelrod upgrade.

miles back

Miles is not currently scheduled as a single but there is a CHASE version coming where the hood opens.

And this might be a EU only variant? A 2-piece mouth plate but with the blue window and roof panel? All of the blue window/roof ones I’ve seen in the US (on both angled and straight diecut cards) seem to be one-piecers? Let me know if you have a US 2-piecer with blue windows and roof.

Thanks for the photo, “David V.!”

Yeah!! I was correct, the one at my Walgreens was the upgraded unibody version. Thanks again Met!! The headlights border and the tailights do look different in the pics. My other Miles is buried in a box right now so i cannot compare the 2 heads on atm!

something interesting going on with miles’ taillights in that rear view pic you posted… upside down… downside up…

(MET: Crickey! It looks the EU one has the main light on top … so I guess if you have a unibody Miles – what do your tail lights look like. It looks like the tail lights on the original release are the correct position …).

the one in the foreground with the bright blue panels is movie correct. see the clip from mel dorado show at 13m32s. brake/turn sig on top, reverse clear on bottom.

That must be a one-time error — all three types of packaging variants in my collection are correct.

  • looks like the rim around the headlights is darker too…
