Apollo 11 Exploration of the Moon – Mapped

Infographic version of Neil Armstrong’s “hop and bounce” around the moon … other than driving out to right field to get a hot dog … wait, am I interpreting it right?

(full res version HERE).

With a baseball field underneath so you get a sense of scale … (there is a version over a soccer field for non-baseball playing countries).

Neil Armstrong chimes in to say it looks about right. (Put me in coach, I wanna …).

NASA pages on Apollo 11.

And of course the 4 ex-NASA employees who stole moon rocks (when they could not break into the 5′ foot safe, they just wheeled the entire safe out …). The FBI summary.

    looks like a big loogie.

that trip into outfield is when they went to check on the Transformer, right?

  • FireFox91 says:

By “drive” they mean walk right? (Or bounce if you want to go there) Because Apollo 11 didn’t have the Lunar Rover. The headline is deceptive.

(MET: Oops, I thought Apollo 11 was the one with the rover …).

  • Bumper Save says:

I was wondering why there was a baseball field on the moon for the first few seconds

(MET: Ignore the alien built ballpark, it’s just a shadow or weather balloon).

  • John in Missouri says:

I was only 2 at the time, but my parents made sure to sit me in front of the TV to watch it. I only wish they had snapped a photo of me watching.

As for Neil Armstrong, Boiler Up!!

I remember watching that on black and white TV that we had… it seemed so surreal…

    Great trip back in time.
