well, I think it is pretty good for opening. I am happy. Mattel is going to make more money….and make more cars!

The new Smurfs movie will be bumping Cars2 out of our theater tomorrow.

      BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

    • oliversmom says:

oh, I dont know Smurfs were a bit “spooky” to me with deceiving periwinkle blue color…and my boys during the commercial posed a very good question…”Why in this movie we have only one girl Smurfette???? Where are the rest????” Luckily in Cars we have few cool chicks.

(MET: At least they explained they are brothers and sisters …).

I went to see the preview at the BFI in London a few weekends ago with Q and A with Lasseter.
I was realyl excited about going to see the flik but when the film was over, I couldn’t believe what a let down it was.
    Easily the worst Pixar movie.

“Story is king” does not apply to this movie

I bet Cars 2 will sell a lot more mechandise than $350 million.

      I’ll bet you $350 million they don’t.

“Merchandise tied to the Cars franchise has generated global retail sales of more than $8 billion,” Walt Disney said Monday.

They reported that back in February. Now, if only I could come up with $350 million to cover that bet.

        • Tacomaduck says:

Retail sales of $8 billion do not flow into the coffers of Mattel (It’s Not Swell). I haven’t seen the wholesales of the merchandise or the amount Disney/Pixar have gotten from the licensing agreements for the toys. Mattel should be paying a percentage of the wholesale sales out the door to the retailers. It seems there’s a lot more merchandise with Cars 2 than Cars, The Original. Plenty of diapers and food stuffs, etc on the shelves.

  • hostile takeover banker says:

Such a cool movie. I’ll give my money to Pixar anyday… Mattel is another story.

  • Fillmore1234 says:

I thought that $350 million was good for being out a month, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has only been out 13 days and it’s grossed $882 million! 😮 but still, Cars 2 has made a LOT of money!
