Mattel Disney Pixar CARS 2: Blessed It Are the Diecast Collectors – The Pope & The Popemobile

The Pope is coming AND the Popemobile is separate!

And the two Sumo guys, of course.

These should appear in the next 2-3 Deluxe (oversized) cases.

And the next two-packs …

Lightning – how many rims can the dude go through?

A. At least 3 so far, I guess.

Finn McMissile as Security Guard & Acer with a different eye position from other 2-pack.

And Mater with Sal Machiani (aka: Ape)

You can find these from the CARS 2011 poster – available for download at the new Mattel CARS 2 site.

i asked chacha now i want to go back, cause i couldnt find them before!

are the lfe size cars movie cars still in disney world?

Yes, the life size cars are still in Disney. Star race car Lightning McQueen and pal Mater from the original movie are parked on a grassy knoll near the D-Street shop. In between them is a brand new character making his debut June 24 in β€œCars 2” – a master British spy named Finn McMissile.

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

Picked up Sumo Nabunaga today at an Oz Big W. He was sitting with Finn with Hydrofoil and a bunch of other deluxes.

  • Justin-Case says:

I went to my Target tonight and was looking at the C2 line and was checking out all the other cars stuff they had out and looked down to see the Cars Blu Ray DVD with a gold cruising LMQ and Rescue Mater both with Ransburg paint jobs and a free pass to the June 24th Cars 2 movie. Anyone else see this?

  • Jack says:

Just unbelievable Cars in this movie. That’s all I can say with my jaw agape in amazement at all the delectable releases coming and coming quick. The days of drought are long gone. Our hobby is back and bigger than ever!
The days of wine and roses are here.
The 2005 to 2010 original Cars 1 era was great and all but The 2011 to 2014 period is going to be The best. Even if they do make a Cars 3 someday.

  • DDD says:

Off topic, but I found a Target with about eight or ten of the 9-car speedway packs for $7.48, and they also had a bunch of Gils for $3.47 and a couple of singles for $1.24. But…the best thing was I scored two Ninja Knockout playsets for $5.02 each! That crane is really cool! Even rolls on its own little wheels. (The two ninjas don’t roll and are attached side-to-side, but they can be unscrewed easily from their base to display.) The crane is all I wanted that set for, and now I have two 8^) It’s the final 75% off clearance…but there’s not much left. Get ye to Target!!

That’s it…I’m done until the next wave!!

  • Fillmore1234 says:

Since I am a Catholic, the Pope will be MINE!! =D But I will not be happy if you can’t fit the Pope into the Popemobile.

  • Quixotequest says:

Pope & his Mobile looks great. But unfortunate — though hard to tell for certain with the low resolution — that they are not using a Cars-i-fied version of the Vatican symbol of crossed keys. Say, two crossed ignition keys.

    • kdthomas says:

That’s what they are, keys… And his hat is made up with wheels. Hello…this is carsland.

      • Quixotequest says:

I thought the miter decor looked like gears instead of wheels, but it’s all good. Like I said, hard to tell for certain from the the low-rez image but pleased to hear they’ll have a Cars-i-fied Vatican symbol, too.

  • jestrjef says:

These are going to be AWESOME!! πŸ™‚

  • collectormom says:

Met I clicked on the link for the poster but I get the Oops page instead

  • Justin-Case says:

Anyone know of the release dates for these….MET?

    • kdthomas says:

If you go to the Mattel website it lists release dates under each car. Some are locked. Looks like A. Petrov is supposed to be released on June 1st. Although I know some people are already finding him and Miles Axelrod.

My first impression was not a lot of cars for 2011. This should leave room on the pegs for more Cars 1 releases? (hopes)

  • Man-I-Fold says:

Sal is cool. It appears that I’ll be getting a Race Team Mater after all.

  • corinne says:

sumo #1,sumo #2 & security gard finn w/acer were available on TRU.COM last week.I ordered them & now they are all on back order. Hope they come soon !! POPE & POPE MOBILE ARE AWSOME .

  • boogity says:

does the papa fit inside the papa mobile?

    • DDD says:

Looking at the open top, and considering how small some of the new cars are and how huge the double-decker bus is, I’m betting he fits inside, though maybe not in the same scale-relationship as on the poster, and sticking out of the top. (The height may be what qualifies him as a Deluxe; the Pope car itself may be more Professor-Z size.)

Like the Finn…I hope people take to him as a character and as a diecast, as I’ve seen a million of him over the last few days, plus all the RC and other big versions.

So many dupes 8^P I’ve been switching them out among the cars in two five-packs to give my 3-year-old nephew. Plus I got my Tomber with oil can (fave Mattel so far, though I do like Petrov)!

When are these new ones coming?!

  • Mr. T says:

It would be cooler if the popemobile had clear windows and the Pope could fit inside…..

    • Rich R. says:

Well, it looked to me like he’d just barely fit in there, but I suppose there’s no precise consistency in scale between the images of each car. So Pinion might be bigger than the space in the Popemobile, but that would be pretty lame…not to mention a wasted opportunity.

      • John in Missouri says:

You’re exactly right — those photos are not to scale. And who knows if the windows are clear or not, as these could just be spec photos.

        • John in Missouri says:

Those frosted windows are just for photographic clarity — imagine how weird it would look if they took the photo of the vehicle with clear windows — you’d get reflections off the “glass”, the lines of the rear of the vehicle would look odd, and the background would appear wavy.

  • firefighteruk says:

My wallet is groaning and the first load of stuff hasn’t even hit the shelves’s in the U.K. yet!!!

  • Cuddles says:

I have the Sumo guys on order at Toys R Us, I want the Pope and pope mobile now too.

  • Micky says:

    ***Spoiler Alert***
If you don’t want to know anything about the movie, do not read any further.

I bought the Essential Guide to Cars 2 and on page 32 it give a hint about the Trunkovs.

    “Did you know?”
“Lemons are divided into four families named Gremlins, Pacers, Hugos & Trunkovs.”

So it appears there is more than one Trunkov.
Don’t know why I’m so obsessed with the Trunkovs LOL. Can’t wait to collect them all πŸ™‚

  • Sean Rynders says:

Lightning already has three different rims on the two currently released versions. Look closely at LMQ w/ Party Wheels… Those which were part of the TRU Porto Corsa Welcome 5-pack have deep dish silver rims with very subtle difference in design. The TRU exclusives are HOT! Get’em while you can!

    • Sean Rynders says:

It’s a bad photo but the one in the middle is TRU 5-pack LMQ w/ nicer rims. Maybe MET can get a better quality comparison photo posted to highlight the difference. It TRUly is a much better version of rims than the other. It shines much more side by side. Take a look you will see what I mean.

  • bobbyjack says:

Maybe we will display the Pope and the Popemobile with Padre and El Matordor and the bulldozers. I think the sumo guys would make a good tag team against The Tormentor and Frightning McMean. Looks like we’re going to get stuck with another Race Team Mater and Acer. Oh well it looks like its going to be a fun summer.

  • John in Missouri says:

Finn McMissile as the Security Car reminds me an awful lot of the Mini Adventures line. Let’s just hope Cars 2 doesn’t jump THAT shark again!

    • collectormom says:

Oh c’mon, the Mini Adventures Cars were awesome! You know you miss them! My kids love those, still play with them every now and again

      • John in Missouri says:

        Mini Haulers — yes.

        Mini everything else — no.

        πŸ™‚

        • collectormom says:

Mini Jerry Recycled Batteries was going to be awesome, too bad they canned the line. They were starting to get some good ones. I wish they did more of the racers too, it would’ve been nice if they released regular Chick Hicks stateside instead of just overseas

          • John in Missouri says:

Yeah, the racers were cool too — I remember some TakeFivers wanting a Mini Speedway of the South set.

I just never got into some of the themed Mini’s like Sheriff Mater or Fire Department Lizzie.

  • Rich R. says:

Might we possibly get a list of confirmed eye position differences so far? I realize it’s still a bit hectic, but it would be ideal to get that sort of thing straight (to the extent possible right now) while the first wave stuff is still fairly easy to find. So there’s Acer…Lightning McQueen with Party Wheels also, right? What else?

Oh, and Pope Pinion IV (teehee) and The Popemobile are pretty much the best thing ever. Pinion can fit inside, yes? (Though it looks like his miter would stick out the top.) But here’s a thought: shouldn’t he really be a significantly older model, like something closer to the Queen?

    • Quixotequest says:

The Pope’s body shape appears a hodge-podge of inspiration from 1960s-70s era Alfa Giulias, though the grille and headlights are much too modern looking. I agree a Cars Pope seems it should consistently look older (bug eye headlights would have helped); however there have been a handful of Popes elected at sub 50s age. While a WW1 era Alfa Romeo would make the age seem to fit much better, as an “Italian Car Shape” a post WW2 era Alfa is more likely to be easily recognized as an Italian car.

  • Kevin W says:

McMissile, the master of disguises? As am I…

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

I love the Popemobile – just seeing cars like him, the sumos, and so just makes me want to really see the movie, just to see how they all fit in to the Cars universe. Only just over a month away now!

Off topic but for any Oz collectors it seems that Deluxe and normal singles are available at Woolworths stores.

  • cac1959 says:

Looking forward to the Pope, Popemobile, Sumo wrestlers, and Sal… not sure about the new Finn as a security guard… I’ll see if my resistance gets stronger if I see any of the new 2 packs with one new Car and a change in rims – come on Mattel.

  • pwschuh says:

The Pope appears to be based an Alfa? I guess that maybe kinda makes sense?

  • Dodger says:

    The Pope…that is so funny!
But only new rims on McQueen as a variant….
    aww…come on Mattel…

  • Chris says:

Awesome! I’ll be first in line to get these ones!
