Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: Zapor, Petrov, Alex, Trunkov, or Oilski – What’s in a Name

Professor Z has many minions, one of which is Zapor.

Except his name is-was not really Zapor – maybe at one time but maybe it was too easy to confuse him with Professor Zundaff or Professor Z so he got a name change.

Definitely Petrov Trunkov. Definitely.

Meet his brother Vladimir Trunkov.

Or maybe they are not kin?

They vaguely look alike but maybe  it’s not Petrov after all but A. Trunkov, the other brother?

Alexis? Alex? Alexander? But what ever you do – do not call me Al – or sing that Paul Simon song.

But what’s in a name?

Would a Trunkov leak as much oil as a Oilski?

Alias Petrov Trunkov is really a Petrov Oilski?

Yes, he’s named different things on different packaging … one more clue?

So, it would seem his name is really Petrov Oilski?

Inconclusive but so with a slim lead of two packaging to one, Petrov Oilski might be his name. Definitely, Definitely Petrov Oilski …

… Unless there are other releases so definitely, he’s a Petrov Oilski, or Petrov Trunkov, or Alex Trunkov or John Michael Kane.

He’s not a game changer but a name changer.

He’s everyman. He’s an entire error cottage industry.

He’s slick, he’s oily and he’s teal.

What’s the name of the game? What’s in a name? Who’s on first?

Today’s episode brought to you by: John H., Nikko, Micky and Billy E. (thanks for photos).

He’s also in that Target box (no names listed?) and he’s eventually coming as a single so someday soon, we’ll get to the bottom of this mystery.

Now I know how this relates! I found the three-pack with Petrov Oilski when I was in, you guessed it, Marietta GA!
Does anyone know of the Petrov Oilski variant is any more or less common than the A. Trunkov version? I am thinking Oilski may be less common.

I wonder if I could get a zapor car shipped here to the U.S.? it’d be kind of cool considering it’s my last name! I’m gonna start looking for the 3 packs too!

  • ??? says:

So is Petrov Oilski meant to be F1 driver Vitaly Petrov? Could be give former F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton is already in Cars 2…

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

ON the back of the 5 pack I haved it says A. Trunkov.

    (MET: Interesting).

  • kittycat22 says:

dose anyone know which cars are gunna going to be hard to find yet?

(MET: All of them if you go into the store AFTER some of our well armed and strong armed T5ers … 🙂 Just kidding – see tomorrow’s post).

This is so weird…was there another character with name issues like this in the first movie? I’m really stumped that the Disney Store and Mattel diecasts have the same license plate and body damage but different colors. If it wasn’t for the fact that both cars look like they’re in the fountain scene on the big poster, I’d think they were the same but just had color and name changes along the way. There isn’t a full cast list online yet, either, to provide clues. (The Pixar Wiki, for what it’s worth, has been updated with an “official” shot of Petrov that looks like the Mattel diecast.)

It’s fun to watch this develop, plus I really like the look of the character…oddly, he was my favorite when I first saw the Disney Store diecasts. Kinda reminded me of Fred 8^)

I almost didn’t even pick up the three pack in Kohl’s when I sa it, but I did just to look at the back, and I was shocked to see the Petrov Oilski name… I hadn’t seen that version until then! Took a pic right away. Maybe that will be the rare one that got away when I look back in 5 years… maybe should have bought it!

  • bobbyjack says:

Until any of us sees the movie, maybe we won’t ever know his name. I’m going to go with whatever they put on the box of whatever version of him I find in the store.

  • Tom says:

There is a jewelry store in Marietta GA whose motto is “If you wantski good dealski come see Kominski”.
Don’t know how that relates but I thought of it when I read this…

  • cac1959 says:

I’ve seen the 3 pack with the name listed all 3 ways… A. Trunkov, P. Trunkov, and Petrov Oilski… I am opening 1 to get the Car, and then I’m done with that 3 pack…

Here’s why it was called Zapor:

See the resemblance in both name and appearance?

  • Chris says:

ToysRus has two wooden cars characters from Cars2 that i’ve not seen before:
    Giuseppe Motorosi
    Cruz Besouro

  • BMW says:

    A. Trunkov is on the back of six 3 packs I saw yesterday at Kohls.

  • DDD says:

Despite the color and big size difference, the Disney store Vladimir and the Mattel Petrov have the exact same body scrape pattern on the driver side: short one on the fender. Long one across the doors. Smooth on the passenger side. (Vlad has no mirror.) Same license plates too! (19-71 SMK)

  • Alex says:

Mattel at its best. What a joke.

  • jestrjef says:

“who’s on first?” is one fo the BEST skits EVER!! 😆
