I traveled down to LA today and on the way down I-5 I saw a yellow Toyota with a white camper top. All it was missing was the rocket ship!

Stopped at the Van Nuys Target and guess what...yup...seems like the lack of new Car's die-casts is a National Tragedy! El Segundo here I come!

That's the one! Actually, that's one of two; my kids have that one, and I went out and got the Neon Nights Challenge. They're essentially the same, but the Desert Racing set has brown track and "dirty" CARS, and the Neon Nights has black track and "clean" CARS. The battery pack works fine for kids, but if you have a Tyco wall-wart it'll plug right into the terminal track. And of course, the cars will run on any HO slot track.

Thanks, but there's no talent required; anybody who's ever messed around with with slotcars as a kid can do this! In fact, it keeps getting easier; after I did all this adapting to mount the bodies, I found an eBay seller who has clip-on body mounts for the Tomy SG+ chassis that stick to the inside of the body with peel-and-stick adhesive. They're intended for vac-formed lexan bodies, but there's no reason they wouldn't work with the plastic Disney Store figurines. You can mount bodies the same way I did with Chick's, but without having to get out the hobby knives and the hot-melt glue.

Give it a try!

I just looked at my inventory list and I have a "Dirt Track Racing Desert Slot Car Racing" set. I don't even remember what this looks like. It's packed away in a box. I got it several years ago when I first started collecting but never even opened it. When I feel ambitious, I'll dig out the box and take a look.

Thanks for posting, Met! I do have some videos of the cars in action around the track, but I need to do some editing before I can post. I put the CARS track, a Disney monorail and Thomas the Tank Engine around my Christmas tree every year, so I have to pull the slotcar vids out of the Christmas mix. I've also got some CARS-eye-view footage that I took with a micro-size wireless video camera mounted on an AW S'Cool Bus repop, following The King around the track, but I need to edit it into something watchable; the raw footage is somewhat motion-sickness-inducing...

I do have some videos from Christmas 2007 that show LMQ and Doc racing around the tree on YouTube; if anyone's interested, here's the links:

Here's Doc practicing his drifting:

LMQ & Doc racing:

My cat chasing Doc:

Thanks for watching!

(No relation to Stig O'Hara, BTW. Some say that my left nipple is in the shape of the Nurburgring...and that if I put my mind to is, I could solve the DaVinci Code in 3.7 seconds. All anyone knows is, I'm called The Stig!)
