Keep in mind these return clerks are getting paid minimum wage, are very young, and could really care less to take 5 seconds to look over the return. This is probably their first job and only because Mom/Dad are making them work. I’ve returned a few items that I accidentally bought doubles of that I didn’t realize until I got home. I could see how easily this is because they simply grab the item, look for the bar code, scan it, and throw (literally) the item into a shopping cart behind them. Also, these probably are not collectors as a collector would want the item in the original packaging. They are probably just parents trying to get something cheaper (or thinking that). The risk factor really isn’t that great knowing that more than likely the clerk will never inspect the item other than a quick glance and ask “Is there anything wrong with this?”. Should they notice you could simply say, “Yeah, I bought this but it came with the wrong cars and I didn’t notice until I got home.” My view is that yes, this is theft plain and simple. I feel the same way when I pay $6.99 for a StoryTeller single only to come home and notice a messed up paint job or a chip in the paint. I also feel the same way about the price of an object that costs $6.99 but costs the same to produce sitting next to it for $3.50. But we are all consumers…so…consume consume consume! And if you think you’re gonna “stick it to the man” just make sure you’re actually getting the better end of the stick
