Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Final Lap Proto Card Only at Target
This is the NEAR final card design for the Final Lap series with ONE CRUCIAL element changed-erased.
Why is the removal of ONLY AT TARGET element significant?
It means that other retailers/other resellers can sell Final Lap CARS if Mattel decides to without making any card changes … at the drop of the hat. The switchover can begin at anytime since ONLY AT TARGET is just a distribution decision now and does not involve logistics, packaging, nor production … so stay tuned 
I’m NOT saying it’s going to happen but it’s not going to take too much work if it does happen …

Saw a few lenticulars at Walmart here in Toronto with the new final lap style backs…

I am still thinking TRU or Ross/Marshalls would be the next step for these.
I remember the JLU Target exclusive figures showing up at Ross 6 months after they hit Target shelves.
Is this the same pic you used 6 months ago, only with the watermark repositioned? I think you’ve just done a disservice to your readers and got there hopes all up for nothing!
That’s why it says proto type.. it was never produced.. which is the point of the post.. that they never said ‘target only’… giving us all hope that they possibly aren’t going to stay that way…
Yeah, I know, but Met used this same photo six months ago with the Take5aDay watermark over the “Target only” logo so, why bring it up now. Is this just speculation on his part with nothing to base it on except his opinion? Like I said, getting everyone’s hope up, probably for naught!

I hope so! It will give me an excuse to go to Walmart again. Maybe the price will come down a little with some competition going
I hope other stores get them too. $4.99 for a single car is too much. I’ve always bought 2 of each single but I’m re-thinking that and will start to buy only 1 of each Final Lap. If Mattel wants to gouge us, I’m not going to oblige.
Hope you silly collectors who care about card don’t feel compelled to buy YET ANOTHER set just because of this little switch!!!
I wonder if anyone collect these things like baseball cards — 50/50 centering on card, etc.
What switch? That is a proto card in the pic. Never released with Target only on the card.

Seems some want to blame the stores but lets look at Mattel. If they don’t supply, the stores don’t receive!
But are the Target warehouses not receiving them, or are they just not supplying them to stores that are overstocked with Lenticulars?
I always have to rearrange the Cars that have been placed on the Final Lap pegs to “remind” the employees that there are few, if any, Final Lap Cars in stock.
LOL – I thought I was the only one to do that. I get some pretty funny looks from other shoppers thinking I’m an undercover worker helping out
One of my Targets I cleaned up to show them they have *6* empty pegs….think that worked? Nope…after two weeks still Tumbleweed McQ and Trunk Fresh Pitties abound…

I’ll chime in and admit I do that also.
That makes five of us wasting our time to make sure Target realizes that their in house name “Classic Cars” and the Final Lap series are the same thing and terribly understocked.
In Arizona at least the stores are set up with 6-8 pegs of Lenticulars and 3 (always near empty) pegs of Final Lap.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the “Only at Target” label on Final Lap cards — am I the only one who hasn’t?
No, the only at Target was not on the original one my grandson found in North Carolina on Sept 11.
I think Met is only refering to the prototype card, which is what he has pictured in this post and some previous posts.
Well, if the “Only at Target” label is missing, then the lay-shopper isn’t coerced into buying it because he/she won’t realize that he/she can’t get it anywhere else (for now).
Fingers crossed. I have no love for Lenticulars anymore
It’s about time to make Final Lap available to every retailer in the marketplace. Target does not appear to be take this exclusive product serious. Pegs are constantly empty. It seems there is one shipment, long wait for second, and, then it’s the disappearing act. I think Mattel realizes it has a dog on its hands, i.e., lenticulars. Maybe as a compromise Target can be like K-Mart’s Hot Wheels cases, first to market and then available to everybody.

It’s time for a better sales volume store to start carrying these, Targets in Washington simply don’t care about selling Cars.
Amen to that! I actually had to give the manager a lesson on who carries what. She did not realize Final Lap is exclusive to Target. She assured me there is no other inventory in the back, which I kind of believe her because it is Christmas and the stockers immediately cram the shelves with everything that shows up. She told me the store has no ability to order anything (same with TRU). She gets whatever the logistic center sends. At $4.99 a pop you’d think Target would want to gouge us for every thin dime they could. Final Lap is like ‘bait and switch.’ Advertise Final Lap and give the masses lenticulars. Maybe that’s the plan! Dump lenticulars during Christmas and scrap the line after the New Year! I could only pray!
I don’t like complaining, but I must say I agree with you. Target gets a very exciting exclusive item, but they do not even try to market it, or even put it on the shelves! The only way I’ve found Final Lap cars is by having an employee look up the number and bring out the case; they are almost never out on the floor.
