Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Darrell Cartrip – Boggity That Chrome

The CHASE Darrell Cartrip has a Chrome-Silver Ransburg finish …

Darryl ChaseIt’s a nice additional choice – though the original was a nice sparkly silver to begin with so it’s different and nice but the original was pretty good to begin with.

side by Side
The original was a nice classy gray silver with color shimmer specks …

darryl CloseAfter the correction of the front mouth, not much to complain about – classy and cool. So the Chrome Ransburg is nice but it’s sort of like adding chipped ice to a Coke with ice … a solid addition but pretty damn nice to begin with …

Close ChaseOr like some BBQ with an extra spoon of sauce … sure, who’s gonna turn it down but pretty hardy to begin with.

Oh oh, I think I made myself hungry.

Darrell Cartrip Chrome Ransburg CHASE is of course, the first CHASE CAR on the new WOC: Night Skyline card motif …

I found two Antonio Veloce Eccellente in a Pennsylvania Target yesterday. There was also a repacked Final Lap Chick Hicks on the pegs which was my first sign something new had hit. Don’t remember what else they had for Final Lap but it was nothing new, just repacks from the old line.

The new Storytellers 3-packs have also hit multiple Targets. I opened the box and saw Bubba and Mater’s cousins are 2-per-case but the Showgirls 3-pack is shortpacked with an old repack taking up the 6th case slot.

  • Mike H says:

I found one by accident at TRU.

He’s been sitting on my printer for 2 weeks. I don’t know whether to open him or not. His shininess makes him look closer to Cartrip in the film, and he doesn’t have the clown-white lips.

But still, not sure if I’d be able to get rid of my original Daryl. Still have a WM-exclusive small TJ that noone ever has what I need for trading purposes.

  • Nascarfan says:

I have asked one the best customizers who makes chrome “Cars” and color chrome “Cars” to consider making THIS Darryl Cartrip a true Chrome version.

    Anyone else interested?

Lets see if we can get a few people on a list and “Draft” him to make some.

I dont think it will be anytime soon more than likely after Christmas/New Year until he can get to them but its a thought…

Also I think that if we could get the plastic wheel and tire sets replaced to go with rubber wheels/axle set combos it would make them extra cool. IF it can be even done at all.

We will need donor Cartrips and donor kmart cars (depending upon how many people want synthetic tires).

If anyone wants to be on a list:

    Email me @ nascarnbroncosfans-@-msn.com (remove – – )

    Subject Line: TFAD Chrome Darryl

Choice: Synthetic Tires or No Synthetic Tires

    Quantity Desired:

price will be discussed when we have a list of how many want them.

I will get a “guesstimate” price and post later. Just “”guessing”” but I dont think it will be less than 50.00 each but I have been wrong before.

I will post follow up info later.

Can’t say I was too impressed with this ransburg car – Although in my top five for sure, I didn’t get the wow factor when I finally got one in the mail… (haven’t seen one in the wild yet – Though I haven’t been cruisin’ for cars as of late… The only TRU I hit was today, ironically enough – But it was an outlet type store and all they had was Lenticu-craps on the shelf…)

From what I can tell, DJ should be the show-stopper this time around…

  • kdthomas says:

So many new cars…..so few on shelfs… If anyone needs 30 Dinico Pittys or 50 Tumbleweed McQueens I’ve got the Target for you…oy….

  • Nascarfan says:

BBQ as in Cheddar Brauts, near burned or medium well done?

    On December 24 2009 8:00 PM ChrisBennettFilmS
is showing “Sarge’s Christmas party” a short
10 minute video about sarge, radiator springs,
and a very merry christmas! dont miss it!

  • SweetBug says:

Again, if you’re going to Disneyland, they’ve switched to the Dark Side, and all they carry are Lenticular’s now, except for the odd Chase cars here and there, it will be $6.95 so if you don’t care about the price Disneyland is the place to find it seven different stores with at least 15 Chase cars on the pegs…pretty good odds.

  • L8rM8r says:

I have been hearing mixed reviews about this ransburg finish, but will definitely hold final judgment until I find one. Thanks for the comparison shots as I was wondering what the fuss was all about.

  • iamspeed says:

A little “heads up” for TRU on Wednesday ONLY:

Haulers are $11.24, one day only.

Not the best price by a long shot, but if they’ve got one you just have to have?

  • John in Missouri says:

Met, is that a bend across the upper right of your card????? Right across the “Chase!” logo…

(MET: Yep, then it was opened 🙂 ).

  • iamspeed says:

Part of the problem with getting a really impressive finish with Darrell is that SILVER is VERY difficult to get DEPTH in the finish.

Shiny is one thing, but DEPTH is a much tougher challenge.

So, Darrell is probably not going to live up to the impressive finishes that we’ve gotten spoiled on with Ransburg treatments like RS Mater and the Ransburg McQueen.

**Here’s what I still find to be possibly the MOST impressive car in a “mass produced” quantity:

Radiator Springs McQueen…….fantastic depth, gloss, and color!

    Anyone else agree?

(MET: Yep, one of my favs).

    • iamspeed says:

Let me qualify that…….the NON-“pinked out white” version.

    • John in Missouri says:

I agree, and the package itself makes it shine even more. They’ve really nailed it with this new packaging. Now if they’d just get rid of Lenticulars….

    • BMW says:

I totally agree, RS McQueen is beautiful. Cruisin McQueen is too.
I found a really nice Cruisin, with a smooth fine paint, and top coat that looks like nail polish. He was made on 249-7, no flaws. Must have been a great day at the factory.

He makes Gold Cruisin look sick.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

I like the ‘original paint’ Darrell better. The chase version looks unfinished. I thought Ransburg was supposed to sparkle.

There are quite a few chase Darrells on the shelf. I don’t think anyone notices he really is a chase.

  • EM says:

Quick random question. I found the Final Lap Antonio Veloce Eccellente last weekend. I never even knew there was a second Final lab case out. Has there been a post about this assortment? Can someone direct me to it. I have searched the site all kinds of ways, but am not finding anything.

BTW, to stay somewhat on topic…I was not wowed by Cartrip or the last several Chase cars–LMQ, CH, King with Cup or just a new package. I am really looking forward to the next few, though. Ransberg DJ, Ramone, and King look great!

    Thanks,
    EM

(MET: There have been reports of Final Lap CASE B out but no one is exactly sure what’s in it – though it sounds like Antonio, Dexter with Checkered flag & LM are in it …)

  • babychristianscars says:

Its even better in person. Found him 2 weeks ago and today I found the wet/burnt mcqueen. Our walmart had 10.

  • Monica says:

Hmmmmm, I thought when we saw it at SDCC it was super shiny. I’ll have to find one and see if it matches my memory.

(MET: Yea, I think the proto one was very shiny – almost reflective … if only I had put it in my pocket so I can check now. Once again, non-theft doesn’t pay off 🙂 ).

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

So far I’ve tripped over three of these in the store! I wish I could find Case B of the Final Laps instead of finding these all the time. Paid $1.99 at this week’s Fred Meyer sale.

  • iamspeed says:

    What is Boggity?

    Oh, you mean Boogity!!! 🙂

Boogity, boogity, let’s go racin’ boys!!!

  • lost says:

i found chase Darrell a few weeks ago. my local wally world put out one case of the new card back, and the only new case they have put out. I haven’t opened him yet since i keep chase cars in the bubble until i find a second one. and the paint job looks nice to me.

  • Micky says:

Found this yesterday at Walmart. Haven’t taken it out yet. I like both versions…collect them all 🙂

  • jestrjef says:

I have one … but have not cracked him open yet … the side by side shots are great Met. I am partial to the metal flake in the first release …. but I guess I will wait for my final decision when I have them both side by side to drool on! 🙂

  • Gary UK says:

Looks like more love has gone into the original versions though. My chase one although the paint job is nice, it clearly has a sticker decal on it for the flames so it looks tacky

  • John in Missouri says:

    “10’s” across the board!

  • cac1959 says:

Darrell Cartrip is one of my favorites… I have it on WOC cardbacks both the clown mouth and the corrected mouth, ROR cardback, and International cardbacks (both WOC and ROR)… I have the US Chase version, and am trading a US version to a friend in the UK for the International Chase version. I think I may also have it on the Supercharged cardback… I also have it in Movie Moments packaging with Bob Cutlass…This is definitely one of those Cars that I am… collecting them all!

And I really like the new cardback.

  • K West says:

    I like them both.

  • Edge says:

I’m sorry Met, but I have to disagree with you this time; IMHO, the Chase Darrell is MUCH nicer than the original. I had the good fortune of actually finding this car in Canada in the WILD for a change!

  • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

still havent seen it here! i love the cardbacks!!
