So my son (really me) just got into the Cars phenomena and I think we are going to collect the Disney 1:43 scale rather than the 1:55, it just seems more managable.

Aside from the big 20 Deluxe set and the 5 newer Piston Cup racers,are there any other 1:43 scale vehicles?

I heard rumors about:
1. A regular Doc (not Fab Hud Hornet)
2. The Disney Store Frank (is he really 1:43?)
3. and these new El Matordor and Mator the Greator sets.

Is there anything else???

These are amazing! I think it is funny that they skipped right over Rescue Squad Mater & McQueen so far. . . I am sure they are to follow, or maybe they decided Mattel has already beaten that horse well past dead……

Disney – please release the rest of the racers!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d have to agree about the Mater Disney store diecast. I don’t think they did a good job on that one. It looks kind of odd. The other ones all look pretty good. The cars are bigger which my son likes. I really like that the paint they used on them is way stronger and less resistant to chipping then the mattel cars. I don’t like that if you look really close at the piston cup cars you can tell they used a sticker of some kind for the printing of logos and such. I’d imagine that they clear coated the car a couple of times after applying stickers. I’m gonna keep picking up the disney store cars though. I like them. I’m going to pass on the toons cars though.

PS: As to scale and detail. I hoping Disney will grant rights to Burago to produce detailed 1:18 scale Cars. I have many beautiful 1:18 castings of Donald Duck, Daisy, Scrooge, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, etc. At retail they were under $30. A 1:18 scale Mater with operating features would make a fantastic piece.

Disney has to be commended for bringing more Cars to retail. The stores carry some nice PVC play sets for kids, too. Well worth the trip at least for the holidays. Maybe a little competition in the marketplace will get Mattel and the retailers to get more product on the shelf. The local stores are loaded with lenticulars and Car Toon castings

As a side issue I was checking for the Black Friday ad (11/27). The Target color ad (actual ad) is on line at a Black Friday website. Target is having the four pack sets at $7.49.

Maybe its time to great a new column for the upcoming Cars deals for Black Friday..

If Disney makes the percentages work for Mattel, they’d certainly take the work in lieu of their name on the bottom.

I’ve been in retail enough to see what companies will give up if their profit margin is maintained or increased.

Until proven to the opposite, my money is on Mattel manufacturing this line, rather than having a competitor fill Disney’s shelves for a line of toys that they began.

(MET: Mattel doesn’t own any manufacturing plants. They do have some plants that have an exclusive deal with Mattel (ie: Hot Wheels is enough to keep a plant busy 24/7/365 … it certain is possible that Disney & Mattel use the same plant for certain items but that plant is not owned by either and they each pay to design, manufacture their own molds, etc, etc … not too different from real car parts plants – they might have an exclusive deal or they run different parts or different schedules for different clients).

I will give Mattel points for the flames coming from the rockets, but the styling on the Disney Store versions is much better overall. If they could just keep their stuff in scale, this would be an awesome line.

(MET: Mattel will have two McQ’s with rockets, one with flames, one without).

I also agree on some of the Disney Store line. However I can see smaller children enjoying the larger versions. Also certain Cars from this line are even in better scale than mattels. I would say the Disney stores Frank, Tractor and Red are all more in scale as well as the new El Materdor Mater. There is no denying that this ElMaterdor Mater is beautiful. I am very impressed with the detailing. Other than Mattels 55:1 Cars, I prefer this size way more than the minis. More substanial Cars are better than too small. Like Monica said I won’t make a point of collecting them all like the regular Mattel 55:1, but I will buy the ones I like for John.
