Kmart Collector Day Action Update

Success in Georgia!

Open Those Cases!

The Kmart CARS Collector Day here in Georgia was fairly well attended with lots of master cases being opened with the internal cases opened up and set on a table for open season.  While the tag system was available (see photo below) it wasn’t used.  We (the little Tizmanians and I) got there at 10:55 and the cases were already being zoomed over.

Several hard core Ebayers were there but not one of the two people (ok, I was buying sifting and grabbing) I spoke to had heard of Take5! (Hello?! Don’t they know I am a big thing on the internets that filled with tubes?!)  Ah, well.  Their loss. *sniff* Hee, hee.

Kidding aside, everyone easily got what they wanted with most people grabbing a custom loaded box.  My estimate is that within 20 minutes this one store sold about 5-6 cases which means there was/is plenty left over (not to gloat but just to report…with apologies my Canadian and overseas friends).  Plus, about eight of us got one of the big posters!  Sweet!

I hope your Kmart CARS Collector Day proved just as fruitful to you!

Plus, they were handing out flyers for their Hot Wheels Collector Day on Nov. 7th.  Bring body armor for that one… ;^)  The flyer looked like this:

4 adults, 4 cases at our Kmart (I went alone because my son was at a sleepover birthday party). They raffled 2 posters, I got one, and a guy I believe is an ebay seller got the other, when he was opening his case he asked me what was in there anyway, took the new mater out and left with his case.

The same guy was at the hot wheels event a few weeks ago with his 2 kids, wife, sister-in-law, mother and mother-in-law and only left with the treasure hunts from the 4 cases they all got out of a total 8 cases. A least my son got what he wanted from the leftovers.

We had a mini-line of about 10 people/families. Four of us were TakeFivers at least AND I found out why I can’t find any cars in my area *laugh* I was very happy I got my cars for my boys (and for me.. who am I kidding)

I believe there was 5 master cases. Many of us got rid of the Lenticulars. Some people walked away with cases, some with just some cars. I got two cases minus the ucky Lenticulars. Many cars were being place back in the mins and when I left some people had 4 to 5 cases and a bin full of cars (could of just been sheriff, mcqueen, ramone, and New Mater)

Each boy got a poster, which is the first time we’ve ever gotten one.

One Takefiver got a Piston before we got there on the shelves. I was happy getting Gil and Nitroaid Trailers.

Thank you mystery Takefiver for the tip about Disney store! I got my Frank for my son who is Autistic. With the scale you were talking about, it will so make his day. Also, I saw Kori was on the Mattel site. That made me very happy today.

Now, to find lovely chase cars.

    QUEENS NY KMART DAY 3

WENT TO MY LOCAL KMART WITH BOTH MY CHILDREN. BASICALLY NO ONE THERE ONLY US THREE AND 4 MORE ADULTS AND 1 MORE CHILD. THE MANAGER I GUESS DOESNT KNOW HOW TO DO THE MATH BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY GAVE OUT TICKETS KNOWING HE HAD 3 MASTER CASES (18 TOTAL) AFTER PLEADING WITH HIM TO GIVE US A CASE EACH HE SAID HE HAD TO FOLLOW RULES AND STARTED THE RAFFLE. SO I LET HIM DO HIS THING AND WAITED PATIENTLY FOR HIM TO START HANDING OUT CASES. IT WAS EXCITING FOR THE KIDS THEY COULDNT WAIT ANY LONGER TO GET THESES CARS SINCE WE NEEDED THEM ALL.

AFTER HANDING OUT THE COUPONS (THANKS FOR THE $5.00 OFF) TO EVERYONE THERE, I MET A HOT WHEELS COLLECTOR WHO WAS UPSET THERE WAS NO CHASE. WELL HE ENDED UP BUYING A WHOLE CASES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. AND AGAIN, THE NOT SO SMART MANAGER SAID HE WAS GOING TO RAFFLE AGAIN FOR THE REMAINING CASES. NO ONE PAID ANY ATTENTION TO HIM. SO THEY ENDED UP LAYING OUT THE REST OF THE CARS ON THE TABLE. SO WE LEFT WITH 2 CASES AND A FUN DAY. PLENTY OF CARS LEFT AT THIS KMART.

We don’t have KMart in Ireland!

We do however have lots of cattle marts! (True story, while you were buying cars today I was selling cows to fund the habit!)

Good luck to all of you from the emerald isle!

  • LASinCA says:

No one else mentioned it, so I was curious if any other stores had the free Cheerios & Nascar Hot Wheels that they were handing out. There were 2 boxes with about 200 of them in each box and they gave them to us when we got our ticket. There were so many left that they just let us grab a bunch of them at the end. I walked away with 20 or so, not counting the ones my kids opened to play with during the event. Nice little goodie bag treats for bday parties if nothing else. We had 24 cases, if I remember right, and about 35 people. Everyone left happy.

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

K-Mart on Portland Avenue, Tacoma, WA had six master cases w/ twenty four cases. Twenty people attended. Loads of cars left on the table. I was able to win one of ten multifold posters that were given away. I was also able to purloin two colored fliers that were in the Cars’ aisle. Later in the day I stopped in at the Lakewood, WA K-Mart. There were untouched boxes of Cars. The manager was nice enough to given me the 28″ x 22″ heavy card stock poster from the entry way, which was headed to the dump. The poster and flier have the same graphics. Nice piece, except I have no more wall space in the ‘toy’ room. :)

  • swb says:

did everyone notice the different packaging from the last event?????????

  • Mariela says:

    Kmart, Covina, CA.

Lots of cases, not so many people!!
I went to one Kmart with my son and my husband went to another just in case if neither of us will have luck, well…I was the lucky one, since we have lots of boxes and few people, but he was lucky too because he found High Dive Mater!!
So it was a great day today…no so great for our wallets thou! :)

    • John in Missouri says:

Same here — should have bought stock in MasterCard and Visa last week!

    • AlbertHinkey says:

Glad to hear that it went well in SoCal Mariela. I wasn’t able to go, because of a major football game conflict:)
So I sent my mom who lives in Michigan. Her local Kmart had plenty to go around apparently. She showed up at 11:30 and was able to get all 7 new cars to send to her grandson. It works out better this way because, now Grandma gets to spoil her Grandson :)

Sounds like there was plenty of supply everywhere. I’m going to check the Costa Mesa battleground tonight for leftovers on the way to dinner.

  • KM Bangor, ME

    TOTAL NIGHTMARE!!!!!

One master case, 45 people! The Cars were just thrown into a bin and we were told to have at it! People were grabbing, pushing and shoving!

I EVEN GOT POKED IN THE EYE!!!

Ok…none of that really happened. There were just too many sweet stories being told here…I just wanted to spice things up a bit. ;)

Although the poke in the eye did happen! Well…I actually poked myself in the eye when I pulled a Lenticular Ramone out of the case a little too fast. Damn Lenticulars!

Seriously though…everyone was nice and had a good time. A couple and their cute boy (remembered them from the last event) gave us their extra poster that they had won. Very nice…thank you! :)

  • John in Missouri says:

Well it sounds like Jefferson City, Missouri had the record for most master cartons — SEVEN!!! So 28 cases for 18 people (including my family of 4), pretty good haul here. PLENTY left behind too.

  • Drew Peakox says:

    Marysville Oh
    K mart
My son and I got there around 10:30 coupons in hand. They still had the toy story/cars pallet, which sitting on was a lone gil, which we needed, down the main section i found high dive mater and the dr mater 4 pack on sale for 14.99. 4 master cases for the event with about 20 people, 3 sets of racers for us and two posters. I should have asked for the one at the door now that i think of it.

    Dublin,Oh Target

In search for some final laps , we stopped in, none to be found on the pegs, i left my dcpi list at home :( We did get both pit crew sets, dinoco and htb though.

    TRU Dublin Ohio

Found lug and nutty finally, as well as the boot camp set.

Overall it was a great cars hunting day. Thanks to K mart for having the event and the coupons!

  • MackDaddy says:

12 cases, 8 people, 6 posters, lots of CARS to choose from! Very nice people and an overall great experience. Got 2 full sets and 4 N2O & 4 Vinyl Toupee to trade. :D

If anyone finds the 8.5 x 11 flyers for this Kmart Day #3 I would like 1 of each or 2 of them if you have 2

  • Unimog says:

OK. Also reporting from Georgia: My daughter and I arrived at 10:58. There were four master cases on the floor near the toy department with a K-Mart employee guarding the stash until 11:00. There was one lady already standing at the table. I asked her if she was a “TakeFiveADay” reader. She wasn’t. She asked if I already knew what I wanted. Of course I did. I asked her if she knew what she wanted. She did. When the cases were opened, she picked out two cars! I got my 22 cars. We left the rest on the table. As I walked out, I went down the aisle with the Disney Cars just to see what they had. They still had cars on the pegs from K-Mart Day 2. The cars rang up at the register for $3.69 plus I used the $5.00 off coupon.

  • Melanie says:

Cars at my York PA Kmart rang up $1.00 a piece. I tried to tell the cashier that it wasn’t right, but she didn’t seem to care very much and told me that’s what they rang up. I guess computers can never be wrong! Worked out for me.. but I wish now I had bought more than only 3 cars!

  • HolyGeekboy says:

My son and I came away with two of each racer, one for me, one for our neighbor who collects but had to work. I bought some groceries as well, and used two $5 off $50 purchase coupons. (My son already has one of each of the Cars that were released today, and opted for some Transformers mini-figs today when I offered him two Cars of his choice!)

All the kids there came away with at least a set of rubber-wheeled racers, and there was a table full of extras, even a few Vinyl Toupees, which one guy was loudly proclaiming he could sell “for $40 each on eBay.” Which brings me to…

GEEZ OH MAN were the Hot Wheels scalpers PISSED. The four or five of them whined endlessly about “there are no Chases in ANY of these cases!” and “All of the these have already been released!” One guy threw a HUGE fit when the cashier suggested he had to remove the Cars from the case boxes to be rung up (which has ALWAYS been the story.) He was yelling at the cashier that they were ruining the value of these collector cases and telling us he was going to sell for $350 a case. What planet are you on, buddy? This isn’t like the last time, with a ton of new, desirable product. These are re-releases, and while many of them have been limited in the past, nobody is going to pay that kind of money for these Cars, especially overseas.

Also funny was the sight of about 40 Trunk Fresh Haulers on an endcap; they seem to be the pegwarmer of the month!

As far as pricing, KMart had the singles (including Moving Eyes) for $3.69 each, $8.49 for mega-sized (!!), and $15.99 for haulers (!!!) The 4-packs of Cars Toons were fresh out, marked at $14.99, but the pegs were loaded with Cars Toons singles at $4.49.

  • Terri says:

My store had about 12 people and 24 cases. Everyone got plenty. After the actual drawing was over the manager kept handing me new cases over and over again. I had to give some back. If I had bought all I could I would have went broke. I still spent a mint but there was one guy who bought way more than me. He took everyones leftovers. I figured he was probably selling on ebay. Weird. Last time we had about 40 people. This time only the 12. All and all very fun. Nobody left without what they wanted and as much as they wanted.

  • michad says:

Just updated the spreadsheet and even though some are rubber tired, I only lack Gask-its and Tac-o-mint to have the 36 racers from SOS.

Got my two Faux Wheel #54s and Sidewall Shine TRU today :)

I need someone to point me toward a 12 step program for this stuff. “Hi, my names Michael and I cant stop buying Cars cars.”

  • swb says:

2 master cases and just me and my son hahaha guess i know where i will be going. after only seeing 4 people at the hotwheels event last time i went there for this event and no1 awesome.

    • swb says:

funny thing tho i went to my local kmart 4 master cases i just took a glance and noticed hundreds of cars n2o,revolting all them except every last vinyl toupee was goneeee noneeee

      • HolyGeekboy says:

I laugh so hard at this. 20,000 cases (we assume), 2 Vinyl Toupees. Most hardcore collectors who were collecting 18 months ago got him in the Target 8-pack. So all of these folks who saw VT selling for $40 last week on eBay put up theirs for $39.99. 1500 matches on eBay by Tuesday, I bet, and an average sale price under $8.

  • NCPonyboy1 says:

O.k. I’m still upset with K-mart on the two pre-sales, but the moon and stars aligned enough to open my schedule up, enough to make it to the store. The trip today yielded much better than expected. Went to the K-mart in Monroe NC, just east of Charlotte. Got there at 10:00 and was able to secure the front entrance poster from the store manager. By 10:45, there were four of us. We all remembered each other from the two previous events, so our alliances were made, and we vowed to make it hard on non collectors. One of the gentlemen and his son were part time K-mart employees. I was able to turn them on to take5aday. Last years event allowed one box per person. This year, 5 cases, 20 boxes. We each we able to go through a case. Plenty of posters (2 per case)and a ton of the 11/7 Hotwheel event flyers, which were given to the manager for the store’s front material table. Was also able to snag some empty boxes for storage. As we were wrapping up, several more folks came in and were able to obtain a case and a table full of left behinds. Courteous people, plenty of product, no fights, a lot of laughter and a whole lot of “Cars” stories. Not a bad day at all!

    • Todd says:

went to 4 Kmarts in the Charlotte area, and one at 5pm and there were still 11 cases sitting where they were opened with no cars removed………….I got tons of sets of the racers, about 130 and yes spent lots of $$$$ but hope at some point some trading can occur with them and of course my 3 boys got to open and they got 3 sets saved for later……………I am overwhelmed at how little this Kmsrt days turned out, I was at the Pineville NC store and there was 3 people and one only got 2 cars and there were 4 master cases at all 4 kmarts I made it to today and was very shocked to have so many at my taking…………next time dont go to Monroe- go to the Freedom Dr Kmart, no one showed up there and the cases were put back in the back until I got there about lunch and asked for them………..out of all the cases I saw today and that is about50 plus all had contents they were slated to except one had 1 extra blue mater and one less Vinyl T…………..I got a stack of posters as well

  • Cars77 says:

    KS -
    Event start at 11:15.

More people than cases. 5 Master Cases.
All well behaved except for very anxious couple that were buying for the “2 Grandsons”. I think they let everyone know that at least 30 times.

Everyone got their set. I got 2 (one for JR to open, 1 for his collection)

Once everyone had their fill the couple, who were there for their 2 grandsons said I want all the Vinyl Toupees and N2O Colas cleared the table of them then went after the unopened boxes and filled their cart to the brim with just those 2 cars. He started ripping through the unopened case to pluck those out. Curious how the little boys would need 30+ of a single car and none of the others.

He had 3 unopened cases so I grabbed the other 2. All others were done shopping. He said with hands shaking, “Wait I need to get some out of there”. I said so do I and walked away just to spite him. I loved it.

And we got a poster, sign, small and big box.

Hooray KS! Good news everyone who showed up got what they wanted. Bad news, so did that guy. I love eBay but hate dirtballs.

  • Ryan says:

Got to Kmart at about 10:45. Only a handful of others waiting. By the time 11AM rolled around, there may have been a total of 10 people. They came out and started dumping boxes into plastic bins, and people just starting taking what they wanted. There were 400 cars at least, so there was no rushing. Everyone was done and out of there by 11:15. This was different than past Cars days, as before they would fill the bins from the boxes, then do a 5-second countdown before letting anyone grab what they want. Just a bunch of kids dumping the cases this time, that had no idea what they were doing.

  • CollectThemAll says:

We were easily able to get just the 3 new cars that we didn’t have. We won 2 poster, but they are the same posters as last time. My son also went up and asked the Kmart guy if he could have the store poster. It looked like there was only one of those. He let him have it…also helped that he was the only little kid there. :)

  • Monica says:

Glenn did a nice recap of our store’s event. There were definitely less people there than last time, hope that doesn’t impact chances of another collector day or the # of cases my store gets.

  • Uncle Skippy says:

Out here in NJ all went fine…

4 Master Cases… 6 people… store gave each of us 2 cases to pick from and then raffled off the remaining 2 cases if you wanted them…

Got what I needed, left the rest…

All in all a good morning…

  • Mikey says:

16 boxes and only 5 people, it was a good day! Can you believe they still drew numbers!!?? I tried to explain that there are more cases then people but they said they had to do what the letter said. So plenty of cars to go around and to fill the pegs and then some. I got one mint set for me and an N20 for my son since i didnt get and extra one from the TRU promo. I hope others had a good expierence like we did. They even had 3 Halloween candy bowls full of candy to give us :) .

  • Dunroamin says:

I had to coach baseball this morning, so i pre-ordered a case. I sent my wonderful wife on a mission, and she brought home the gold. 2 of each racer, 1 of each non-released lenticular and a nice poster (though it seems to be the same as last events poster.
I sent out an email to the local collector’s group to say i wouldn’t be at my store, but that my wife would. A big thanks goes out to Todd C. for providing guidance and strategy to my wife for selecting the correct cars in order of “desire”. Though there were only 3 families there to share 8 cases, they did it by the book and only let each person select 5 at a time. Last year they just handed outcases to the 3 people that showed up. My wife saw the family from last year. Pretty funny.
over all, a successful day and I love this hobby.
    take care everyone!

      my tally:
      3 of each racer
1 yellow ramone and 1 BN mater
6 extra vinyl toupees for a take5′er in Maine who missed out on mr. toupee.

If anyone has any holes to fill, I will gladly take a trip down the street to help fill your gaps…serious people only…don’t need any extras! no ebayers please..just want to give back and help out my fellow take5′ers.

We arrived at our local event at about 10:30 and there were already 12 or 13 people in line and by the time tickets were handed out there were roughly 25ish. No biggie though because the manager wheeled out 8 master cartons! Everybody walked away with what they wanted and that still left TONS on the table. Talked to some fellow Take5ers and enlightened others to the site’s existence :) We did win a poster as well. All in all a great time and everyone was friendly; looking forward to the next one (which hopefully will have some new releases!)

  • CaptainChunk says:

Kmart in Chehalis, WA was a night and day change from the last event. The hoarders all decided to stay home it seems. There were 10 of us and 8 cases(2 masters). Two people with small kids decided not to take their turn so it was a 1:1 experience. Got the 8 cars I wanted(one set for me collection and a N20 for the kiddos) plus a poster. There is easily 10+ complete sets of rubber tired cars there.

  • Micky says:

We left the house at about 10 am. Decided to check out Kohl’s before heading over to Kmart. Got to Kmart at 10:45. Asked the lady at the desk where they were handing out the tickets for the Cars event. She said, oh we’re not doing that, this store is closing. (this is the store I went to for the other two Cars events) I almost fell over! The next Kmart was about 8-10 mile down the road. We ran back to the car, now 10:48. I had 12 minutes. I drove my little Honda CR-V like I was at the Dinoco 500. Got to the Kmart front door at 11. Husband ran out while I parked the car.
The event was in electronics. When I got there they were already going through the cases. There were 2 master cases, 8 cases. All were on the table. I asked the guy if I needed a ticket and he said no since there were more cases than people. There were 3-4 other ladies there and my husband and me. I printed Mets picture list which was very helpful since the ladies were buying them for grandkids. Every one got what they wanted with tons of Cars left over. I got one set of racers with an extra N20 Cola. I also got a poster.

  • michad says:

Here in Abilene, there were 4 people for the event, 6 if you count me, the wife and the boy as individual attendees.

Mentioned takefiveaday.com to one other person there. Bought the boy 5 cars to open, bought two cases on the presale (one to keep, one just because I’m conditioned well by Mattel.)

All in all it was fun until the boy decided that he’d been patient enough and we had to leave. He was able to play with two of the cars for about 8 minutes before he started pulling the tires off. Seems we’re a little premature with giving him some of these to play with.

No other restocked Cars at the KMart.

    Big fun for the fam!

  • Beav says:

Update from Niceville, FL…5 master cases, about 6-7 tickets handed out, which means plenty for all. Walked away with 2 unopened cases, 1 each of the new racers, and a poster. At least one collector stayed behind to open every case to look for errors. Unsure if he found any.

  • Big Daddy Papa Love says:

Here in Richmond, MI…as always…..nobody but my kids and I. I guess I can’t blame anyone, this was a pretty lame assortment. If I didn’t already have every piece ever made, I would have skipped it! Hope eveybody got what they wanted!

  • TrboTrex says:

Here in Latham New York I wasn’t able to make the 11:00 am start time, due to a uncooperative child and a busted sink.

Any way made my way to KMart by 11:30
still tons of cars on the tables!!
    Was able to pull
    3 Vinyl Toupee
2 each of N2O Cola, Revolting, and Rev-N-Go
and 1 Lent. Sheriff (since we only had one Sheriff)

Still lots of cars left over could’ve probably filled two cases of just racers.
I think Mattel dropped the ball by not offering any “new” cars.
It was nice to get the hard to find racers, but now most people know that if you wait they will show up. I hope this doesn’t ruin the chances of Cars Day 4.

Had great luck at Target this week too where they finally released the Final Lap cars and the Pit Crew box sets. X-mas shopping almost done.

Utah Disney/Pixar Club Kmart day #3 report:

    6 master cases – 24 cases

handed out NEW Utah Disney/Pixar Club – takefiveaday.com business cards to new people that I printed up(maybe more new Utah people will visit takefiveaday!!!!)

Handed out 30 5.00 off 50.00 coupons and 30 of the kmart ONE TOY 10% off coupons (yes our kmart let us use them for the Kmart Exclusive singles today)

Everyone got what they wanted and were able to use EVRY coupon I printed up… ALOT OF empty sealed cases and overs left behind.

  • Shavenlaidblazer says:

Im a hardcore Hot Wheels collector, But i also collect pixar cars. I got to my event. 2 Master cases 8 24 count cases. I was the only one who showed up lol.. And whoever decideds to attend the Hot Wheels event be careful. Its alot more tough than this one.

    • Yeah I went to one of those for the first time a few weeks ago. 32 cases for 70+ people and man were those guys angry if they didn’t get called on the first go around. And only one Super Hunt out of all 32 cases — that guy almost didn’t make it out of the store alive!

    • Glenn H. says:

My son and I are planning to attend the Nov 7th event. This will be our first one and I am not big into Hot Wheels; he is. I certainly hope it doesn’t get ugly! Are there ever any kids at these events? Any suggestions??

      • I’ve taken my 5 year old son to a few KM HW events and he was always the only child there. The adult collectors were very nice though but that’s just my area. I have heard that in some areas the collectors can be pretty rude so just watch out for your boy and try to have fun. :)

      • MackDaddy says:

Here’s a suggestion, “Don’t waste your time.” I went to my first and last Hotwheels event a few weeks ago and saw a bunch of toothless, smelly old guys salavating over a few cases of Hot Wheels! What a joke! They were actually pushing women and children around who had gotten a case to open. One woman thought she won the case and started to walk away and this guy went balistic! Yelling waving his hands saying, “She can’t do that. She has to open them here and she only gets five minutes!” I just about popped the guy in the mouth! All of that for what? All I saw was a couple of plastic wheel Treasure Hunts out of a few cases. I will never be part of that chaos again! Good Luck!

        • Matt says:

I am not a HW collector, but my son absolutely loves them, and I think it might be kind of fun in a cruel sort of way to try and get some of their chase cars….. I know you all have seen the HW guys who go over to our section, and just pull the chase cars!!! I know from reading here that the chase cars are green. Are the treasure hunts and super treasure hunts marked as well?

        • Cars77 says:

          Hers a better suggestion.

I will take Jr and wife and pray that we get a TH or $TH. Then let JR rip it open in front of everybody and roll it up to the register.

I may have to take pictures of that.

Or take the TH out and bend it and throw it on the table. Then pick 5 worthless cars and walk away smiling.

      • Not all HW collectors act crazy. Definitely go and find out for yourself what the local collectors are like in your area and make your own judgment.

My son had a GREAT time at the HW events! There is almost always a regular Treasure Hunt in each case. Sometimes you luck out and find a Super Treasure Hunt. Both are marked with green labels. The Super has a “$” sign in the words and the car has either a special paint job and/or wheels compared to the regular TH. There are a lot less Super TH produced so they are worth more. Sometimes there are also regular cars with special paint variations made especially for the event in the KM cases. Since there are so many collectors in my area going to the events it’s really the only way we ever find THs.

Go to the event and have fun!!! :)

  • Seems that the hard cardboard signs are tough to come by this time around. 3 KMarts in my area and no sign. Got reports from others that this is happening all over the country, so I guess the the cardboard sign is the only Chase piece from this event – ;)

  • Michael says:

My K-mart had 4 master cases (16 total cases). Not enough people there, so each of us were given a case to go through. Got 2 complete sets plus an extra Rev N Go and N20 Cola for openers. Had the original releases of the rest of them opened already, so didn’t bother grabbing openers on the other 5. As I was getting ready to leave, the guy running the event said, “hey, I have one more poster if you want it.” So I took it, even though I really don’t need it for anything. I’ll find some kid to give it to next time I go to Target or Walmart.

  • LiamsMom says:

At the Kmart I went to there were more cases than people, so everyone got a case to go through and the extras were dumped on a table. There didn’t seem to be anyone taking tons of cars. They also had enough of the big posters for everyone to get one. We didn’t get a poster last time, so that was nice. Overall, stress-free.

there was 8 cases and 4 people, everyone got what they wanted–i didnt buy all of the 7, just bought the three my son didnt have.. looks like there will be plenty sitting on the shelf for anyone who missed out.

    • kevin roche says:

oh well. i went back to the store just now, 3:30 long after the event to check up and see what was left from the morning, and most of it was still there, so i caved and bought the set so i now have a full set of days 2 and 3–but see they still get you, these are clear short cards, days 2 was regular cards and days 1 are non rubber. they have to mess with us some how. went to toys r us and target was well as walmart. found lug and nutty and they are the set with the gun, i dont think its an error, i saw atleast 4 of these and they were all the same, i also saw some trooper’s with a different grill, so that must not be an error as well.

  • Jinzo says:

Any pics of the posters yet? I’m heading out in a few mins… Yay! Can’t wait!

    • Jinzo says:

Just got back from the event. Took a bit longer to get there… Went to the Hesperia, California Kmart store on Main St. Got there around 11:20AM and nobody was in sight. Tables were filled with three huge plastics and all filled up with cars. Plenty of everything…
My pick ups: Note Had Limited Funds this time… :-(
x2 Vinyl Toupee (Have only one previously from Dinoco 400 still sealed set)
x2 N2O Cola (Have 1 from TRU Promotion)
      x1 Revoltin’
x1 Leak Less (Who doesn’t have over 100 Leak Less?)
x1 Trunk Fresh (Have 1 from Launchers back then with the two packs from Target)
x1 Octane Gain (Have 1 from Dinoco 400 still sealed set)
x1 Rev ‘N’ Go (Will pick up Target Piston racers.. will get more there)

Out of all of these, my favorite is Vinyl Toupee. Don’t know why but he just looks awesome. Can’t wait for the Hauler to come out. :-D
      Good day today.

I stopped at that KMart awhile back and they had like 50 Chase Mario’s on the pegs!! I guess there just aren’t that many collectors in the desert. :)

        • Jinzo says:

I don’t really go out there to the Kmart since it’s a bit far from my location… but only go to these kinds of events. It’s good I guess that there isn’t many hardcore collector’s out here. LOL :-D It’s nice to know there’s at least a couple of Cars Collectors in the high desert area. :-D Yay!

          • Glenn H. says:

I had to make a few road trips up the 395 to Reno and stopped at every KM, TRU, WM, TGT on the way numerous times. I live too far to make these a regular stop, but it cool to see “rare” stuff on the pegs, especially the further north I went.

  • mike says:

decent turnout at the montgomery, il kmart. they had more then enough cases to go around… my kids and I only needed the N2O cola and the rev n’ go. We were able to get two posters (the one they passed out and the front door advertisement) thanks to the kind manager of the store and a fellow dad. We did not win the drawing for any of the event posters so the manager asked us if we wanted the frontdoor sign, (which was really nice and unexpected) and then a “fellow dad” asked us if we wanted one of the event posters seeing he and his kid won two posters. Overall it ran smoothly and we got the two cars we needed. My oldest kid exclaimed he loved Kmart.

PS: Thank you for the coupon I used it for a Dr. Mater Carstoon set. (total $13.50 on sale with coupon)

  • phantomrs says:

Where I went there were about 12 people with 2 master cases (8 boxes). The k-mart woman really didn’t know what she was doing so I helped her out. Their was one ebay/flea market jerk there that after everyone picked 5 he started shoveling all of the rest in, not everybody (kids and collectors) had gotten theirs yet so I started shoveling in the rest and told people that I was getting them away from the ebay jerk and would happily give them what they needed to complete their sets. I also took a few of the $5 off $50 coupons and distributed them (not to the ebay a** of course) I also found an Fiber Fuel launcher in the regular section and a gi joe City Strike Resolute Snake Eyes that I used the 10% coupons on (takes T5AD) I think I ended up helping everybody out that needed it, so I will just say watch out for EVILBAY a-holes

    • Bob Eckel/TheeNaughty Knight says:

NOW WHY ARE MY EARS RINGING OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh its the sound of my coins landing in the BANK! and I used the same COUPONS that YOU DID. OH, and I didn’t shove ANYONE, to get my 6 CASES at one of my 2 K-Marts… Only 3 cases at the other… Each K-Mart received 3 Large boxes which each had 4 cases of 24 cars….NOT A HELPER, BUT THE MGT assisted me and I helped him set up! When NO ONE SHOWED UP, he helped me load my CART. I did not even think about the poster until the MGT ask me if I wanted these…. I said OH YES!!! as I counted off (6) six that he had handed me! LONG LIVE E-BAY A HOLES who don’t SHOVE!!! and yes I did use the 10% off coupon on 2 $22.95 items (Doc Mater & Nurse Mia Tia Set) that had been reduced to $14.95 so when I finished paying tax included the item was less than started. No Fiber Fuel at my K-Marts, but I did stay at an Holiday Inn Express last night! and didn’t SHOVE ANYONE THERE EITHER!

(MET: Ha! For those who mocked the coupon! :-) ).

    • Megan says:

Phantomrs, what is it with you making these repeat posts calling ebayers EVIL? I take great offense to your constant hostile comments!

I am a single mom of two, and am very active on ebay! I am not EVIL, I’m just doing what I can to make ends meet, so that I can take care of my boys. Food stamps and WIC help some but they only go so far with everything out there costing so much more. So between busting my butt at Huddle House, ebay, garage sales, and flea markets, that is all I can do to support my boys! Their father does not help any, as he is a dead beat dad, doesn’t even file taxes!!! SO PLEASE Phantomrs, like I said before, practice some EMPATHY and “THINK” before you decide to throw all of us ebayers in the same boat, as I’m certain many TAKE5 members and readers are active on ebay too, not just me. And I’m certain many of us that bought these cars yesterday, may put some up on ebay too. Not all of us are A-HOLES or JERKS or EVIL like you seem to think.

Not sure why you’re so hostile about ebayers, but if it wasn’t for ebay, I don’t know what I would do to take care of my boys, it’s really hard. So please tone down your attacks against ebay folk, as I am not an EVILBAY-A-HOLE

      • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

Its been discussed many times before and I said I would butt out but simply folks, it is legal and so is taking 100+ N20 colas from a store to sell, whether it be friends, family or ebay. K-mart have tried to set up a system to make it fair, but after that is all fair for whatever people want to do. Surely if you wanted to buy 100 N20 Colas you could of, and if you thought it was a silly idea and didn’t want to, that is just as much your right. From the sounds of it this went off smoothly and most people got what they wanted anyway.

Can someone explain the rule you have to be an a-hole to be selling on e-bay? Seems to me there are plenty of good sellers around among some who are a bit pricey. Again, you are free to choose aren’t you?

  • Bombero1956 says:

I too couldn’t attend. We had our water heater rupture last night and I’m stuck waiting for the plumber. Lucky I bought a case during the presale event.

  • Jedi Rainman says:

The local K-Mart I traveled to only had myself and 3 others. They had 8 cases so they scrapped the whole ticket drawing and gave us each a case and a poster. More than enough for 4 people. The CARS would not scan but they sold them for $3.69 each which wasn’t that bad at all.

  • rpag says:

what do you mean tag system?

    • Tizmanian says:

If you look at one of the photos you will see a big spool of tickets that were to be used for a random drawing for people to select 5 cars and then move on through to other people holding a ticket (which I called a tag). Sorry about that!

  • Josh says:

Well? Sadly I am at work and not able to attend any festivities. :( I am waiting on the stories.
