Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Ten-Hut Saluting Sarge On Duty

The return of Sarge (in a way).

The introduction of the new CHASE cards.

Packed in the new lenticulars singles …

sarge-card

It’s the new smaller card – how much smaller?

chase-front-side-web

Actually not by much …

cars-back-to-back-web

Though since the J hook is now “built-in” to the card, to retailers, it’s almost an 1.5″ difference and that means – put another peg on the peg-o-board … um, too bad all the extras are McQueen’s …

salutin-sarge-web

Hey, what’s the fun of a CAR trapped inside a blister bubble?

Say, how does he compare with plain ‘ole Sarge (this is 2006 Desert Art Sarge)

side-open

There are some slight color difference but that’s hard to say how “different” Sarge will be … as most of the CHASE CARS so far have had slight to significant changes/variations from the non CHASE CARS … on Saluting Sarge, the biggest difference is the bumper and hood line is slightly higher than plain ‘ole Sarge … is that because he’s “standing” at attention?

sarge-side

We won’t really know until Pit Crew Member Sarge arrives … or lenticular Sarge arrives … or regular Sarge returns (to Target only). Or we could ask Martin? 🙂

salutin-sarge-back

Back & side detailing pretty much exactly the same (again, some color variation) … though the Sarge insignia is much sharper on Saluting Sarge than Sarge 2006.

sarge-back1

And the tire treads (left) on Saluting Sarge is much more defined than 2006 Sarge.

One difference – presuming more plastic? Though it feels about the same, Saluting Sarge does weigh slightly less. Saluting Sarge weighs 2.01 ounces and Sarge 2006 weighs 2.06 ounces … yes, our staff never sleeps.

chase-packaging
The blister pops open nicely revealing the CAR and stays intact … the tray with WOC online game code and nameplate is on the right – the mini poster is poster #3 – switchover from poster #2 began with CASE H. Posters covered here.

So, far, the entire allotment has been sent to Walmart (by accident or by non thinking monkeys). So, have patience – the next ship arrives in a couple weeks and by then, these should arrive at other retailers and resellers.

Canada & Mexico, yours are arriving by the Bering Land Bridge when it freezes over again. 🙁

Can anyone tell me what the WorldofCars.com code is on Salutin’ Sarge? Thank you!

  • camlgt says:

Possible reason WM is the only one that has them????

I found 2 cases today at my local WM, I bought a handful out of the bunch on the shelves, I went to leave and forgot to look at some other stuff in the excitement of my find. When I got to the back again I found a pallet jammed full of boxes, when I looked I found 3 unopened cases of the lenticulars. The guy back there kindly opened them for me to retrieve a certain car. While I was doing this I noticed each box was tagged with a Cathay Pacific tracking tag. As some may not know Cathay Pacific is an airline, so it appears that WM may have payed to have these air freighted to the US and they are weeks ahead of the ones on the boat. This could be why WM is the only one to have them.

  • PiratePrincess says:

Cool!! But why is one a different green than the other one??

    • PirateDad says:

When I just explained the lead paint issue to her, she asked “so it is okay to lick LM?” I responded, “Wellll…. Yes, but..” and before I was finished she had jumped up and started licking LM… I was laffing so hard I dropped the laptop!!! She is DEFINITELY my girl!!!

  • Daniel says:

He is definitely Lenticular-ready! Look at the side by side pic.

  • Shelby says:

Alright Acuranx, I’ve got to ask again because it has been so long. What is the deal with Tach-o-mint????

  • acuransx says:

Been the done that with light/sounds in 1:55 Characters. After we do the math we are not sure the market will bear it.

The price value may not be there for the price we’d have to charge…..we can do anything but will you pay for it?

Anybody going to Hotlanta other than Traver?

  • Matt B says:

So what do I do when I call my local and trusty Walmart and give her the UPC and she says “these have not been loaded into my system”. She could see that it is Saluting Sarge but she had not counts or did not know of any inventory that was coming in etc. What the heck do I do now? Is anyone else in GA know if any Walmarts have the new Lenticular Eyes? Can anyone supply me with Lenticular Eyes UPCs??

    (MET: See other lenticular post)

  • HolyGeekboy says:

Pretty sure this is mini-poster #3 (mini-checklist is more like it). There was a switchover early in ROR.

(MET: oops fixed and now linked to poster post).

    • Rich says:

Actually, comparing it to the pictures of the mini-posters on the earlier post, it doesn’t match any of them…Ron Hover wasn’t on any of the ones in the other post. So then this would actually be mini-poster #4, wouldn’t it?

  • acuransx says:

    Ladies & Gentlecars,

Yes, Met must get a life 😉 He must sleep with a die cast Car under his pillow. That’s if and when he sleeps, maybe some type of Vampire…….

Saut’n Sarge is standing at attention which is way his front end is higher, nice side by side bumper to bumper comparision I must say.

Can’t/won’t make a call on when the others are showing up as they sometimes change. Ya think? 🙂 Nah, not here…………..

colors will always vary just a bit in chroma/intensity. It’s the toy bitness, but then again, what do I know about color?

    • Flik'sFriend says:

What’s wrong with sleeping with a Car under your pillow???? Don’t we all?? Oh, wait…maybe that’s just me… 😉

    • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

I guess that answers my question as to the change in the casting. Entirely new! Acuransx, why don’t you get together with the makers of those little micro audio chips in Hallmark cards and install a chip in Sarge. I’m sure for any extra five bucks most would be willing to listen to taps or reveille. 🙂

It would be a nice touch! 🙂

  • ehg5ykl says:

i found mater rs mcqueen and lightning mcqueen at walmart yesterday

(MET: Where you at? Spreading across country?)

  • BMW says:

    Nice review again Met.
Your description of the change in detailing of DB Sarge to Salutin’ Sarge would also apply to the change from DB to SC Sarge as well. I noticed the same insignia sharpness and tread detailing on comparison of those versions as well and the color in the paint change. So new SS Sarge is closer detail wise to SC Sarge than DB Sarge.

(MET: Yes, it’s getting to be that I’Il have to create a crime lab setup 🙂 … Let me look in the cryogenic vault for production February 2007 as a baseline 🙂 ).

  • rumbler74 says:

So far about 8 cases of the lenticulars have arrived here in South Texas. Three different Wal Marts got initially 2 cases each. One of them got 2 more cases. I was fortunate enough to find one. Got both Chase Sarge and Ferrari, and bought my kids the lenticular Lightning McQueen, Mater, Chick Hicks, and Radiators Springs McQueen (1 per case) for them to play with. They seem to love the lenticulars. They can’t stop playing with them. My eldest Dylan was with me when I found the case. He wanted all of them! Don’t really want to start this whole thing all over again. I’ll just get a few for them to play with.

  • Matt B says:

what is the full UPC? I think it might be missing the last digit on there?

    • iamspeed says:

In any retail situation, I’ve always found the the first and last numbers in the UPC mean nothing at the retail level. The “single” numbers before and after the primary sequence are ignored.
Same thing with WM, Target, TRU……..only the center numbers are used.

      • Lorri says:

On regular UPC codes the small number at the far left is connected to the first five larger numbers in the middle – together they make up the 6-digit “manufacturer’s number” which should be the same for all the manufacturer’s products unless they have purchased more than one number for different product lines. The second group of five numbers is the “product number” and this number is assigned by the manufacturer and can be any number they want. Sometimes they are also used internally for other purposes or to keep track of something. The very last smaller number on the far right is a “check digit” and is a product of the first 11 numbers and cannot be changed. A company pays to be assigned manufacturer number(s) and then can use them on their retail products. Usually the printer or maybe the people supplying the artwork produce the upc code artwork. All you ever wanted to know and more.

  • FuturePixarGoddess says:

The best thing about finding sarge was that I didnt see him comng because I had fallen behind in keeping up with the cases and what would be in them so he was a total shocker. I hope they continue with the new card design and blister, Its loads more practical If your an opener or a MIB person. I havent told my busband this but I think I want all the lenticulars now LOL I wasnt sold at first but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of having them as part of my collection

  • bravo1616 says:

not sure if this has been posted but what case is Saluting Sarge in? We found The Ferrari Chase over the weekend and thought that was Case A of the lenticular cars.
    thanks.

(MET: Two chase CARS in CASE A – Saluting Sarge & Ferrari F430).

  • buckland-blowouts says:

    Hey there Dude-Met-dude!

Any idea if and when we might get these puppies up here in the Great White North?

All I have seen so far are 3 Packs and Supersized RORs with the odd batch of Haulers…?!?!?!?!

(MET: Int’l claims all is perfect).

  • buckland-blowouts says:

    Fillmore would be proud!

  • DaddyO says:

MET, are you sure you weren’t breathing on the scale when you weighed in the 2006 DB Sarge?

(MET: Are you questioning the veracity & accuracy of my $4.99 scale? How dare you! 😛 ).

  • Nicole H says:

I have found 1 Sarge so far. Can’t wait to find another so I can open him!

  • L8rM8r says:

Yeah so far have not seen him yet, but not for lack of looking. Nice pics and hopefully this week or next he will land.

  • Laurence says:

maybe they could adjust the color by adding in a little more lead to the paint 🙂

  • PirateDad says:

Cool, so we just have to wait for Hell to freeze over..should be any day now!!!

  • Nice work Martin.

    put me down for 2

  • pwschuh says:

The fact that the original Sarge was made without an antenna makes this one seem weird.

  • carslovermom says:

Can’t wait to find him in the wild.

I think he is taller because he is at attention. It matches the movie scene.
