The Hudson Hornet: Real History & Collector

A nice encapsulation of the real life history of the Hudson car company and the Hudson Hornet we know from CARS.

“Hudson introduced the new Step-Down design on the 1948 lineup. It featured a floor pan that sank down between the outer frame rails. (The norm was a flat floor set high atop the chassis.) This provided vast interior space and a low centre of gravity for superior handling. The Monobuilt body and frame construction encircled the passenger compartment within its girder framing, resulting in a high level of occupant safety. The rear seat was positioned ahead of the rear axle, offering comfort unavailable in the competition’s above-axle placement.

Hudson’s styling also caused a sensation. Sleek and streamlined, its roofline and trunk surface tapered gracefully to a point, like a missile. (Or, in the Hornet’s case, a stinger.) The smooth, slab-sided body was ultra-modern compared with most other cars’ fender bulges. It was low and long, with narrow, “slit” side glass. All in all, a very uniform design.

The Hornet debuted in 1951, as did the new Hollywood two-door hardtop body style. Its large-displacement six and Twin-H Power made Hornet a hot performer. These were not heavy cars, weighing in at around 3,600 pounds. Other Hudson models were propelled by lesser-capacity straight eight or six engines.”

    BMW,

We’ll get you there, hold on to your pizza pie.

Remember it takes us approx. one year to tool up a super obscure Character that no one at Pixar generated a 3-D output file for because this line was not suppossed to still be here today.

There is no Tooling/Deco/Digital Output Fairy that leaves me files that we can just make happen. It is a complicated process that I will not bore you with.

We are not printing napkins here. Sure wish it were that simple.

Acuransx your works again deserve awards ! THANKYOU FOR BRINGING THEM TO REALITY……. “GO-CARS”

      Acura,
Got my Pizza pie, in the warming oven…

Thanks again for the encouraging words. The prototype was a perfect blend of aged well used delivery car, with rust, mud, dirt, just as you described him.

All Pixar fans are going to clamor for this car, whether they are Cars fans or not, just because Todd is iconic, since every rabid Pixar fan KNOWS he appears in every full length Pixar movie, in some manner.

Hope Mattel China fixes him, that is all.

    Ok,

Finally found an unpainted casting of Todd and compared him to these photos and it’s the real deal. Stolen of course, hot as a pistol. I’ll send Met some pics of he wants to post.

Todd was tricky to paint because he’s all beat up and trashed looking. Rust and mud are hard to look convincing. Seems the Orient changed the rocket support from the deco model as well so that threw us off until I found the casting with the base just like the one for sale.

Wonder how much it will close for, maybe someone can keep me posted on here.

    Megaheat,

A Chase version of Sarge is scheduled to arrive 7-01-10 and the Original recipe Sarge shortly there after.

MTT is scheduled to hit 9-01-10 starting with the Rescue Mater Characters, five different Characters. Don’t want to list the line up yet as subject to change 🙂

Apple is off topic here, can’t say why.

  • Mia, Tia and NJM says:

And another thing about the Hudson Hornet, the back window was great for a five year old to lay on and look at the stars while traveling to grandma’s house. Ahhh, the memories.

  • acuransx says:

    Ladies and Gentlecars,

I’m sitting in my office looking at the Deco sheet of Todd and comparing it to these not so great photos.

Both my Head Designer and myself say that this is NOT our Die Cast Todd. Our windows are flush with the beltline and these are not. The base that holds his rocket too his roof is not solid like the one being sold here.

Close but no camshaft. If you buy this you’ll be getting shafted, wait for the real deal. Bumpers are off as well.

Met very off topic, but have you seen this?

Sure hope this is NOT what the final Todd is going to look like, very disappointed. And definitely not like the prototype pictures.

(MET: Yea, it like I went over it with a paint gun …).

  • Roswell says:

everytime i read: “Thanks for the heads up, Jeaks.”
i think Met is saying Jerks instead of Jeaks!

    • Jeaks says:

      Gee Thanks.

Jeaks is a nickname I have had since I was a teenager. It is a shortening of my surname.

Lots of people might say I am a jerk and each person is entitled to their own opinion. Funny enough not many say it to my face.

      • John in Missouri says:

I think Roswell forgot to add a 🙂

        …at least I hope so!!

      • hostile takeover banker says:

i can confirm the man is a champ! especially after reserving an Elvis for me! cheers Jeaks.

      • PirateDad says:

Hey Jerk I mean Jeaks…I think Roswell just meant that as you quickly read down, at first glance, your mind tells you that it says Thanks for the heads up Jerk, cause it is only one letter different and our mind reads it quickly…It was not a personal comment…..cuz if it was, It wood have been more descriptive, like Thanks for the heads up you sarcastic, mouthy, head up your bumper, generous, caring Jerk!!! 😆

You are the man to know in Oz Jeaks, and I am just busting your lugnuts… say hi to Elvis for me!!

        • Jerks says:

Thanks PD I can live with your description.

HTB you are welcome, spreading the love is what Elvis be doing.

On another note I have a whole new appreciation for the Hudson Hornet. I wonder if I could buy one in Oz? Be a nice Sunday cruising car. I am gonna look into it. I can just hear the wife, “is it not enough that you buy all the toys ones that you have to get a real one”.
