Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Race O Rama Poster #2

Thanks to Ricky S., one of the first to find CASE B on the East Coast and crack them open, we have poster #2 that’s included (presumably) with every CASE B car.

The first poster was also five folds so it’s the same size but the COLLECT BY TICKET has gotten more promonence and everything got pushed down and now onto the back.

The exact same CARS are featured here as they were on the first mini poster. The first mini poster had a blank white backing though.

(color difference from different scanners)

While I was a little surprised at the first poster having no back art, I guess someone else noticed that they were “wasting” a marketing “opportunity, ” - as having been a Creative Director, I have to say this is a pretty lazy way to fix that situation.

Did they gather dozens of people around to determine how to fill in the difference in size at the end of page two? Did dozens of people vote for the grass stock art from the card front?

I’m no photoshop genius but even I could have stretched the legalese background to fill to the bottom of the page … All Cal Arts graduates are weeping into their typeface book.

The front design of poster #2 - very nice other than too many logos (WOC - Disney, ROR - Mattel :-) ) … but the back - yea, it’s free … but still, so is a poke in the eye … is this how we want to teach a two-year old budding CARS collector - that poor design is acceptable? I’m appalled and I will buy only a few dozen CASE B CARS and throw away most of my mini posters as a protest! Oh the humanity!

Thanks for the heads up Ricky S.

Oh, so it’s just the little one that comes in each car bubble? The way it sounded was that there’s a larger poster in each case.

  5. Hey MET
There is a method to the madness of the grass on the bottom back. That is the side that faces the car on the bubble so as for it to look like the car is sitting on the grass I guess since in the artwork the car is on the grass also. Pretty clever if you look at it closely. When I get home I’ll snap a pic unless someone wants to do it first.

(MET: oh, okay, that’s better but they should at last put a border on it so an idiot like me doesn’t say - who okayed this transition? ).

  6. This is dumb; the 2 posters have all the same Cars on them. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put different Cars on each poster? Oh, I get it now; these are the ONLY Cars Mattel makes. I guess I’m done collecting now!

I was thinking that too! What a boneheaded thing to do. Why go to the trouble of redesigning the poster and not even changing the selection of cars??? That strikes me as really odd.
