Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Gift 3-Pack Assortments (Fall 2008 Update)

With Movie Moments moving to Target, it looks like the 3-packs will absorb some of the CARS scheduled for Movie Moments. So while it won’t be exclusively racers, pit crew & crew chiefs going forward - it does still have a Piston Cup leaning … What hasn’t changed, Cases D, E, F & G. They are set. Joining them after - no case codes or assortments are confirmed yet - and certainly nothing is firm but the configurations look pretty set and you can look forward to them arriving in the last months of 2008.

And as you know, based on past history - some of these CARS, particularly towards the very end of 2008 might be already out in some other configuration (single, Movie Moment, etc …) so what sounds enticing now might actually be a re-release in this format by the time it comes out … conversely, there’s nothing preventing some of these being re-released as singles later in 2009.

It’s looking like these are “reset” case assortment-numbering-naming wise for 2009. And when we say 2009, we do NOT mean Gregorian calendar 2009 but Mattel calendar 2009 which starts around October of our calendar :-) Our guesstimate is that these will ship in late October to early December.

2009 CASE B?
(In technical retail parlance, I believe they will sell a huge boatload of this case if it’s really configured as such).

    Harry B, Im on the same boat with you wondering when new stuff will come here, but I’ll always ended up on Evil Bay and paid 2-3 times the $….

    Can anyone confirm if the three packs retail for $9.99 from US TRU, Walmart or target?

Hmm…there have been misprints in the case assortment info for the 3-pack line before (see: Gold Mia, Gold Tia, & *Dinoco Chick Hicks*), so I wouldn’t really be surprised if there are a couple of glitches in that list. That point aside, what’s the deal with Guido, Luigi & Tar Lightning McQueen? What would be the enticement there? After all, Mattel has tried to promote at least one semi-new car in each fresh 3-pack. But what would be unique in that pack?

  7. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to question your reporting in any way! Just questioning the accuracy of the info Mattel has released (not to mention the logic of the Guido, Lugi & Tar McQueen set).

    (MET: You’re presuming that the new Gift 3-Pack Tar McQueen won’t come complete with new & improved TAR? :-) Or Luigi with yellow tail-lights?).

  9. Met..any update on when Movie moments will be out? although its rather ugly, but Im looking forward to buying the Tumbleweed (Brocollini) Mcqueen..do you think this will come as a single pack?

    (MET: Info might be harder to come by now it’s an exclusive … but some of the previos MM’s are now listed in the Gift 3-pack (notably Race Damaged King) so it’s hard to tell what’s the new plan going to be?)

  14. aaahhhh…sweet relief…got my Cars fix today. I was starting to get a little twitchy.

    I found the Leakless 3pk and another Tar McQ at Target, in Maine. Very nice! Nothing else new though.

    Case E is definitely out. I have been snagging Team No Stall Gift Packs like crazy all over Western NY! I have 6 or 7 of them and 5 or 6 of the Team Leak Less Gift Packs. If you are in need, let me know — minimal markup.

  23. well, to the poster a few posts above me wondering about the apple car team, i doubt it. apple was the rarest car and i doubt it will even hit retail. but i made a custom pitty 2 types one with Not Chuck body and one with stacy body. i will check in to see what he looked like in da movie. peace out 4 the night.

  24. Has anyone seen Case E in Arizona? I must be hitting the 10 Targets and 7 W-M’s that are within 7 miles of my house right after the collectors have been there. Always feels like “insider trading” going on here in the east valley of Phoenix.

  31. The new packaging for the 3pk is really nice. Definitely geared more towards what the “big kid” Cars collector would like. I will be buying them for our mint collection for sure. :)
